HOT RACING ON A COOL NIGHT AT RATTLESNAKE 2015 OPENING EVENT FALLON (April 4) – In what’s becoming a tradition in area oval track racing, Rattlesnake Raceway opened its 2015 season Saturday of Easter weekend. Cool weather with some wind kept the air cool but the racing was hot on the track. “I was just being patient, started 10th but knew I had a long way to go. So I picked them off when I could as I wanted to bring the car home in one piece,” Shawn Natenstedt said after winning the IMCA Main. The action began even

RACING PREVIEW – APRIL 2-5
SLOW WEEKEND AHEAD FOR RACING FANS Easter weekend is traditionally a slow time in the racing world. All three top NASCAR series are off as is the NHRA and Indy Cars. And after winning last Saturday’s 450 Supercross main in St. Louis, Ryan Dungey also gets a week to rest before the final push to the finals in Las Vegas. However there will be racing in this area at Fallon. Rattlesnake Raceway gets its season going on Friday night with a car show in the parking lot of Stockman’s Casino. And there will be a live band

RACING PREVIEW – MARCH 5-8
This weekend motocross returns to our area. Over the winter two clubs and a track combined forces to ensure it would continue to be part of this area. The first race is this Sunday’s staged by the local Over The Hill Gang chapter with a 9 a.m. launch to the first moto. There will be a practice session Saturday for riders to shake the cobwebs off and get back into their groove. DIRT TRACK CHAMPIONSHIPS
FALLON (Oct. 4/5) — Rattlesnake Raceway ended its season with the annual Dirt Track Championships. However this year there was an unforeseen twist; rain canceled the scheduled date so the event was moved to the next weekend. Sadly many cars that planned to be there weren’t. Despite this the event went on as planned and the drivers put on a display of hard racing. “I had to avoid a lot of stuff as the track went from real good to a real slick, slick, slick track,” Carl Barlow said after winning Saturday’s Hobby Stock main. “The car was real

MARNN AT TOULAN + WEEK’S PREVIEW
TOULON (Sept. 28) — Rain this weekend canceled one event but another soldiered on and ran its event. Due to the conditions at the track and in the pits Rattlesnake Raceway postponed its annual Dirt Track Championship, a two-day event that brings the track’s season to a close. Yet only about 60 miles away MRANN and District 36 ran their annual combined event, The Wild Horse and Wild Pony Enduro. Unlike those racing on ovals, desert racers will compete in just about any type of weather. Saturday’s rain, plus the cool weather made perfect conditions on Sunday as there was

RATTLESNAKE’S CHAMPIONSHIP NIGHT
FALLON (Sept. 19) — This weekend marked the end of a long year for those that compete at Rattlesnake Raceway. It was the final points race of the season when a driver’s efforts can win a class championship, a better points position or go for naught. It was all on the line the Friday night and everyone wanted to bring their A game to the show. While the IMCA A Mods are usually the stars of the show they were upstaged by the more humble Hobby Stocks. In fact that division staged the race of the night during their

RACING CALENDAR, SEPT 19 TO 21
This weekend’s racing calendar has some changes as well as one track ending its season. Lovelock Speedway was supposed to end its season this Saturday but the track canceled the final two events on its calendar. And the Northern Nevada Kart Club had to cancel the “Clone Wars,” event as there were not enough entries to cover expenses. On Friday, starting at 6 p.m. Rattlesnake Raceway in Fallon will host its final point race of the season. The car classes are featured and there will be a demolition derby that will probably close the show. Closer to home Fernley
