GREG EKINS – BACK TO HIS RACING ROOTS
SPANISH SPRINGS, NV (March 21) – After a four-decade layoff Greg Ekins has spent the past five years returning to his racing roots. And those roots run deep since his father and uncle are in the AMA Hall of Fame. “My Uncle Bud Ekins started racing in 1950 and my Dad, Dave Ekins in 1951,” Ekins said. “The oldest trophy I have is a 1951 first overall that Uncle Bud earned for winning the Jack Rabbits MC Hare and Hound.” Ekins was born in 1955 and attended his first race as a three-month old at the 1955 Catalina Grand Prix.

FERNLEY SANDBOX ROCKS WITH BBMX OPENER
FERNLEY, NV (March 15) – The opening round of this spring’s BBMX series was held at the Sandbox, or the Fernley Motocross Track This weekend was the time to shake off the rust and race again. The combined 30+ Intermediate as well as a trio of 40+ classes had the honor of starting the first moto in the morning. CHASSIS CERTIFICATION FOR DRAG RACERS
SPARKS, NV (March 8) – Sunday was a big day for certain drivers that race at Top Gun Dragstrip. An inspector from the NHRA visited to certify those chassis that needed it. Asked about this John Stauverman, racing operations manager and president for Top Guy Dragstrip, said, “The Chassis Certification held here at Summit Racing Equipment in Sparks is sponsored by the NHRA and Top Gun Dragstrip. NEW MOTOCROSS TRACK IN FERNLEY
FERNLEY, NV (Feb. 29) – After 95A Speedway was sold late last year part of the property is now home to a new motocross track. It’s one of the first items the new owners are working on and the facility has a new name; 95 Motor Sports Complex. RAD CLEAN UP DAY A SUCCESS
RENO, NV (Feb. 22) – RAD or Reno Area Dirt Riders is a club hosting group rides, representing dirt riders when land issues are discussed as well as improving the riding experience in our region. Over the years many have noticed all the junk and abandoned vehicles discarded around trails and roads in this area. These create hazards for those riding in the same area. So this weekend, thanks to a grant, the club plus others participated in the first clean up day. The assembly area was on the dirt extension to Kiowa Way on the east side of Peavine.
