    RENO, NV (Oct. 27) — It’s Nevada Day weekend, also Halloween. In our region there will be several car shows, a parade as well as an oval track race plus more on TV to watch.  CAR MEETS: • On Saturday the Nevada Day parade begins at 10 a.m. in Carson City. There should be several car groups in the parade.   • VIRGINIA CITY GRAND PRIX: GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY

    VIRGINIA CITY, NV (Oct 23) — This weekend the Virginia City Grand Prix celebrated it’s 50th or Golden Anniversary. Saturday’s weather was almost perfect for the Pros, Experts and Amateurs, especially since it had rained the night before.  It’s a long race as four hours after the first row starts the checkered flag comes out. This means that many times the leader isn’t even close to the finish line when that happens.  Before the start two head start numbers are auctioned off, this time #00 got a two minute head start while #0 got a 60 or one minute advantage. Riders

  • RACING PREVIEW: OCT. 21 TO 24

    RENO, NV (Oct 21) — Although things are winding down as winter approaches there are still car meets, a major race in our area  plus some drifting as well as races on TV and the Internet.  CAR MEETS: • Locally Sparks Cars & Coffee will have a meet on Sunday by Buffalo Wild Wings. Start time is 10 a.m. and of course that will depend on the weather.  • To the south Carson Malls Cars & Donuts is having its final event of 2021 Sunday.   • RATTLESNAKE RACEWAY: 2021 AWARDS BANQUET

    FALLON, NV (Oct. 16) — Not that the racing season is over it’s is time to honor the class champions and volunteers. This time the event was held at the Eagles hall west of downtown.  After a really nice pot luck dinner and handing out some raffle prizes it was time to get down to business. Chris Lumsden, president of the association, got up and started with the Mini Stock division. Fifth place was Angelo Rallo while Colton Blankenship was fourth and also earned the Willie Ferrier Rookie-of-the year award.   • FERNLEY TRACKS REBIRTH

    FERNLEY, NV  (Oct. 16) — Well fall might be here and winter not too far away but at 95A Motorsports Complex things are humming along. In fact this weekend the revamped motocross track was open for practice on Saturday and Sunday.  Over the next few months and into next year both the motocross track and oval track are going through a rebirth.      RENO, NV (Oct.13) — As racing winds down it’s a bit slim this weekend but there are car meets, a new motocross track opening and still a bunch on TV to watch.   • AMA NATIONAL HARE & HOUND SERIES IN NEVADA

    BLUE WATER FLAT (Oct 9) — The AMA National Hare and Hound series visited northern Nevada this weekend. Both the Cheaters and Rim Benders clubs from MRANN played host as they staged the event at Blue Wing Flat outside of Toulon.  The one-day event started with the youth races then it was time for the big bike show. There were four lines and the Pros led the charge, down a slope, making a sharp right turn and off into the desert.  In the pro ranks the championship was on the line as defending title holder Dalton Shirey had to work

  • RATTLESNAKE RACEWAY: DIRT TRACK CHAMPIONSHIP

    FALLON, NV (Oct 10) — This weekend Rattlesnake Raceway had the official ending of its 2021 season. The Dirt Track Championships are two full days of racing, two separate programs where a driver’s combined finishes determine their standings at the end.  Sunday was the money round and the Hobby Stock class had the honor of ending the track’s official 2021 season.     RENO, NV (Sept. 29) — First weekend of fall and things are bit slow as we move away from summer. The Indy Car series is over, both NASCAR and NHRA are heading toward the championship rounds of their respective seasons.   • MRANN: CRAZY 8 HUSTLE STARTS FALL SEASON.

    YERINGTON, NV (Sept. 26) — The Mason Valley Dirt Squirts got MRANN’s fall season rolling this weekend. For the first time in eight years they returned to a location east of town on a dry but somewhat windy day. As usual the riders lined up in Expert, Amateur and Novice rows with each using a dead engine start.     RENO, NV (Sept. 22) — Autumn has begun and that means local racing is winding down, except for motorcycles, and professional series are heading toward their championships.   • TOP GUN DRAGSTRIP ENDS 2021 SEASON

    FALLON, NV (Sept. 19) — Top Gun Dragstrip ended the 2021 season this weekend with a three-day show. It started with $5 Dollar Friday where spectators get in for just five dollars but if they want to race fifteen dollars more lets them make runs down the track. All weekend was the annual MOPAR vs the World competition as well as the Top Gunner Shoot on Saturday. On Sunday the King of the Track finals ended the season.
