  • NEW NORTHERN NEVADA SPRINT CAR SERIES

    Over the past few years sprint car racing in Northern Nevada has been an up and down affair. Well this year things are very different with a new series due to promoter Nick Purdy. “My inspiration was primarily growing up in the Bay Area and being at San Jose Speedway, “ said. “I grew up watching Brent Kaeding, Ronny Dan and I had a big influence in that track.   • DIRT TRACK CHAMPIONSHIPS – RATTLESNAKE RACEWAY

    FALLON, NV (OCT 7) — This year the 37th Annual Dirt Track Championships was a two-night affair with racing Friday and Saturday. Nine classes were racing for wins and the class championships based on a driver’s finishes for both nights. First on the racing card were the Dwarf Cars and seven of took the green with Ryan Parkhurst briefly on point. Next to lead was Vuki Wilson Jr. but moving toward the front was Friday’s winner, Joe Frock. After that the chase was on but in the end Frock scored another victory.   • DESERT PARK RACEWAY – NNKC ENDS 2023 SEASON

    STEAD, NV (Oct 8) — A wonderful, warm fall day greeted the racers in the Northern Nevada Kart Club. Round 7 was the season ending event where championships were decided or confirmed was well as some earning their first victories. After qualifying and a pair of heat races everyone was ready to start the main events. As usual the Kid Kart Class got things started. This time they used a rolling rather than a standing start.   • MRANN AT BLUE WING FLATS

    BLUE WING FLATS, NEVADA (Oct 1) — Under a gray sky with some light showers Austin Serpa made a dramatic come from behind victory. The weather insured there was no dust although it was foggy at the top of the hills due to some low clouds. Sunday was the big bike day and a 50-mile long loop facing the riders. As usual to be classed as a finisher one had to complete one full lap. At the starting line there were 88 riders divided in their respective groups. The new AA Class had six riders and they compete for money.

  • OLD TIMER MX AT FERNLEY 95A

    FERNLEY, NV (Sept. 24) — The Reno chapter of the Old Timers hosted a motocross at Fernley 95A Speedway this weekend. The event was round 8 of the 2023 BBMX season and around 400 riders showed up so there were 23 motos plus one club moto.  When the second 250/450B and Pro gate dropped Casey Carmichael took off and left everyone his dust. Behind him Walker Thomas led the B group. At first Ryan Hansen and Rich Thorwaldson were chasing Carmichael. At the finish Carmichael won the pro side while Thomas won both of the B motos.   • TOP GUN DRAG STRIPS ENDS SEASON

    FALLON, NV (Sept. 17) — Due to myriad of problems this season at Top Gun Drag Strip was shortened. Despite this the track was able to run the season’s final races this weekend. First up to finish Sunday’s eliminations were the Junior Dragsters. In the final round Sparks racer Nicholas Morris beat Kellen Schmid. The 2023 Junior Dragster champ was Jayce Schmid and the Rookie of the Year was Chayson Schierost. Next the eliminations proceeded.   • RATTLESNAKE RACEWAY ENDS REGULAR SEASON

    FALLON, NEVADA (Sept. 16) — Rattlesnake Raceway ended its point’s season with a Friday-Saturday show. While some championships were already settled at least one wasn’t and that was settled in the first race. First up were the IMSA Stock Cars. Both Rusty McMillan and Marie Curtis started the night only 5 points apart so the race would settle that class championship.   • LOVELOCK SPEEDWAY: CHAMPION’S NIGHT

    LOVELOCK, NV (Sept. 9) — The first full season for this track ended with a Friday-Saturday show. The final night ended with special final race and a winning mother-daughter duo. That last race where, drivers contributed to the “winner-take-all purse,” was for 30-laps. The slower cars started up front while the faster cars started in the back.
