    Another full weekend of car meets, racing in this region as well in Northern California. And there is a bunch of races over in TV Land so the race/car fan buffet is over flowing once again. CAR MEETS: • Friday evening, from 4 until 8 p.m. is the season’s final Summit Racing Friday Night Cruise.   • LOVELOCK SPEEDWAY: CHAMPION’S NIGHT

    LOVELOCK, NV (Sept. 9) — The first full season for this track ended with a Friday-Saturday show. The final night ended with special final race and a winning mother-daughter duo. That last race where, drivers contributed to the “winner-take-all purse,” was for 30-laps. The slower cars started up front while the faster cars started in the back. Earlier just as the final heat race was to start Mother Nature blessed everyone with rain.  That final heat had to wait about an hour as track had to be worked on and wheel packed.   • RACING PREVIEW: SEPTEMBER 7 TO 11`

    RENO, NV (Sept. 6) — A busy weekend for car and race fans in our region and over the hill. In addition there is a bunch of racing on TV and a special event Monday evening. CAR MEETS: • The weekend begins early, at 9 a.m., in Genoa with the 3rd Annual Customs & Classics Car Show. There are trophies, dash plaques and raffle prizes plus live music.          – There is a Car Show Fund Raiser to benefit Top Gun Dragstrip in Fallon.   • DIAMOND MOUNTAIN SPEEDWAY ENDS SEASON

    SUSANVILLE, CALIF. (September 3) — Diamond Mountain Speedway ended its regular season with a Saturday-Sunday race schedule and threw in a Friday evening test and tune session. The weekend’s weather was a challenge to put it mildly. However the track managed to get all the races in. REPORTER’S NOTE: I did not realize the format had changed so after hot laps only mains were run Sunday. As a result I only was inside the track for three of the races.     RENO, NV (Aug. 30) — Things are taking a bit of a breather for car meets as the annual Rib Cook Off is underway this weekend. However there are still car meets, an oval track racing in our region. On TV, the major series are beginning or about to begin the countdown to crowning series champions.   • OUTLAW FLAT TRAC RACES AT FUJI PARK

    CARSON CITY, NV (Aug. 26) — The annual Outlaw Flat Trac motorcycle races returned to the Rodeo Arena at Fuji Park this weekend. It’s a two-day even5 full of action; a blizzard of heats and mains for amateurs and pro riders. Every afternoon begins with a full amateur program. On Friday night there is a benefit race for the East Fork Fire Station, a volunteer group of fire fighters.   • NORTHERN NEVADA KART CLUB NIGHT RACE

    STEAD, NV (Aug. 19) — The annual night race for the Northern Nevada Kart Club honors one of its founders, Rick Jerome. It’s a fun event where drivers add lights to their karts. Unfortunately this year’s event was run under the threat of weather. Both sets of heats were run with the second at night. Racing started with the Kid Kart main.   • DIAMOND MOUNTAIN SPEEDWAY: SEASON’S FINAL POINTS RACE

    SUSANVILLE, CALIF. (August 12)— The 2023 points season ended at the Diamond Mountain Speedway this weekend. Championships were on the line so there was some hard racing. The night began with the IMCA Northern Sport Modified feature. When the green waved points leader Tyler Rodgers was on point while behind him Jace Wright, after slowing for a few seconds, began his charge toward the front.   • NORTHERN NEVADA KART CLUB: MAKE UP RACE

    STEAD, NV (Aug. 6) — The first race of this season had to be canceled due to weather. So this Sunday the Northern Nevada Kart Club made up that event and over 70 drivers showed up. They also used Track #2, which is configured to what Desert Park Raceway looked like when it was built. This shorter course ended up giving drivers more laps. First up is the Kid Kart Class.   • LOVELOCK SPEEDWAY: FRONTIER DAY RACES

    LOVELOCK, NV — Every year the rural town of Lovelock celebrates its founding with Frontier Days. The speedway also celebrates this with two days of racing. After Saturday’s heat races ended there was a Fast Dash for the Street Stocks. Leading from the front row Carl Barlow scored the victory. Then the fun began when 13 compact cars participated in a Demolition Derby. That event and two raffle prizes, one being a kid’s bike, brought one of the largest crowds the track has seen.   • HOT AUGUST NIGHTS: A FESTIVAL OF CARS AND ROCK ‘N’ ROLL

    RENO, NV (August 3) — One of the happiest events in the Reno Sparks area is the annual Hot August Nights. It’s a ten-day celebration that brings people to this area, not to mention a huge economic boost to the region. Hot August Nights reported registrations were sold out at 5,500 cars were registered.
