  • DWARF CAR NATIONALS AT AMERICAN VALLEY SPEEDWAY

    QUINCY, CALIF. (May 13) — The Western States Dwarf Car National Series visited American Valley Speedway this weekend. It’s usually the biggest event of the season and started the season for the track. Right after the National Anthem the entire field of Dwarf Cars, plus a few Sport Mods, lined up on the front straight. Their parade laps paid homage to Dave Richardson and Leroy Kay, who the event is named after, as well as Todd Damron and Race Shelton. The event is named the Dave Richardson and Leroy Kay Memorial.     RENO, NV (May 10) — Finally it seems that spring has arrived. Hope so anyway as there are car meets, oval track and off-road racing in our region as well as a bunch on TV.   • OLD TIMER NATIONALS AT FERNLEY 95A MX

    FERNLEY, NV (April16) — The two-day Old Timer Nationals visited the Fernley 95A Motorsports Complex this weekend. Two days of motocross action with the final two motos on Sunday after the three on Saturday. Other than the wind the weather was almost perfect for racing on Sunday. There were six motos for the various classes plus two support races that also combined classes. First gate drop sent two 60 plus classes onto the track.   • LOVELOCK SPEEDWAY REOPENS

    LOVELOCK, NV (April 15) — After being dark for over a year Lovelock Speedway came back to life this weekend. The event was the Berta Graham Memorial sponsored by the Evenson Law Office. Graham was a long time supporter of the track and Evenson, a local resident, used to race there. Prior to the heat races several competitors did parade laps to honor her memory.   • DIAMOND MOUNTAIN SPEEDWAY OPENS SEASON

    RENO, NV (4-10-23) — On Easter weekend Diamond Mountain Speedway opened its 2023 season. It was a Friday-Saturday event for the track. As traditional once Saturday’s heat races ended it was time for the annual Easter Egg Hunt. Youngsters were divided by size and after a countdown the rush was on. Some of the very young were a bit confused as what they were supposed to while older ones were on the hunt. Once that was taken care of there were two dashes where the winners would win $100.   • RATTLESNAKE RACEWAY: SEASON’S FINAL POINT’S RACE.

    FALLON, NV (Sept. 10) — Rattlesnake Raceway ended the 2022 points season with a Friday/Saturday show. Saturday ended with a memorial race dedicated to a former driver and a large payout to the Hobby Stock winner.  The IMCA Stock Cars got the night’s feature races started. On the green Jesse Gonzales jumped into the lead with the pack chasing him.  There was a quick caution after a car spun in Turn 4 but got going again.   • COWBOY TRUCK & CLASSIC CAR SHOW

    RENO, NV (AUGUST 13) — The Bonanza Casino in Reno had a Cowboy Truck Show this Saturday. There was a pretty good mix of vintage, restored and almost new trucks on display.  There were several lines of various types of trucks. One of them was a 1958 Studebaker Transtar owned by Marty Meckler.  “It’s all original, 258 cubic inchV-8, it’s got a three-speed transmission with a Borg Warner overdrive.   • DIAMOND MOUNTAIN SPEEDWAY: NIGHT OF YELLOW FLAGS

    SUSANVILLE, CA (July 24) — Diamond Mountain ended its regular season with the Fair Races. The annual race ends the Lassen County Fair and has a couple of events added to it.  In the end, it was a night of cautions and yellow flags in all but one race. And the flagman was probably very tired from so much waving his yellow flag.  The evening got started with an added event; Power Wheels competition for the kids. Each had a balloon attached to the front and back of their ride with the goal of popping the balloon of a competitor.

  • AMERICAN VALLEY SPEEDWAY: JULY 16 RACES

    QUINCY, CALIFORNIA (July 16) — American Valley Speedway staged the next round of its 2022 season Saturday. It was a good night full of a hard racing and a lot of action on the track.  That action began right at the start of the Mini Stock main. Right at the green Lilly Montgomery and Victor Torres tangled. Both had to pit for flat tires.   On the second start Matt Canada and Suzi Schmitt were up front.     FALLON, NV (July 4) — Rattlesnake Raceway has traditional race on July 4th every year. It’s also the site of the town’s fireworks display and this time there were some special things added to the show.  Once the heat races were done the Monster Truck ,Airborne Ranger gave a great show.     FALLON, NV (May 29) — Celebrating Memorial Day weekend Rattlesnake Raceway had a Saturday/Sunday show on the oval. The afternoon show had some drivers coming from Susanville to race.  First up was the Bootlegger class and when their main started Wade Lumsden was on point with Logan Sage chasing him.     QUINCY, CALIF. (May 7) — This weekend American Valley Speedway hosted the Western States Dwarf Car Nationals. It was also the ninth annual Dave Richardson – Leroy Kay Memorial Race.  The two events honor two area drivers that lost their lives racing a decade ago. During Saturday’s playing of the National Anthem the Dwarf Car field did a 4-wide salute to the fans. Then they were joined by Gene Kay, one of Leroy’s relatives, driving his IMCA Modified and carrying the numbers both drivers raced under.   • RATTLESNAKE RACEWAY OPENS THE 2022 SEASON

    FALLON, NV (April 23) — Rattlesnake Raceway opened its 2022 season with a two-day show this weekend. There were seven classes on hand, plus two pro-stocks that had a demonstration at the end of Saturday night.  After the heat races there was a meet-and-greet on the front straight. There were two very different events this weekend with racing and a car meet.  Saturday afternoon began with the next race at Diamond Mountain Speedway.   • DIAMOND MOUNTAIN SPEEDWAY PLUS ZOO CRUISE

    SUSANVILLE, CA. (April 9) — Diamond Mountain Speedway as in action this weekend. There was a show Friday and Saturday and on Sunday there was a cruise to help the Northern Nevada Zoological Society.  On a windy and cool Saturday night the Mini Stocks began the mains after all the heats had been completed.
