FERNLEY (July 26) – Round 9 of Fernley 95A Speedway’s season was staged on a mild summer evening. Although the car count could have been better those competing gave the fans a show of hard and sometimes close racing. At the end of the night one driver scored the first victory in his new car while another chalked up another victory in a year marked by success. “It wasn’t too bad, pretty clean and a lot of side-by-side racing,” Cory Sample said after winning the IMCA feature. “After I got by Josh (Ogg) it was clean sailing from there.”

FROCK WINS DWARF CAR NATIONAL AT FERNLEY
FERNLEY (July 18/19) – For the first time Fernley 95A Speedway hosted a Western States Dwarf Car Association National event which was both a celebration of speed and a way of honoring two drivers. The celebration was two nights of speed as these little cars ripped around the oval. But the race, the first annual Dave Richardson and Leroy Kay Memorial also honored two popular drivers lost last year during a dwarf car race. The event wound up with a final race won by local driver Joe Frock, a close friend to both Richardson and Key, in fact he

SAMPLE AND BARLOW TOP 95A RACES
By Dan McGee FERNLEY ( July 12) – The Speedway staged the latest of its points races, once again in the late afternoon. And, once again, two drivers continuing their winning ways. “If you have a high point average, you’ve got to start at the rear so you just have to be patient at the beginning,” Cory Sample said after winning the IMCA feature race. “We just picked them off one by one but you had to watch where they were running and when they made a mistake that’s when we jumped on it.” Then he gave thanks to his

HOBBY STOCK CHALLENGE STARS AT RATTLESNAKE
FALLON (July 5) – Having 4th of July celebrated on a Friday gave Rattlesnake Raceway an opportunity for a two-day show. On Saturday the feature attraction was a new event; the Hobby Stock Challenge. This time the race was for money and not points so there was additional incentive besides the usual track payouts. Add to the purse was a bonus for the winner as well as making sure every driver got $100. Although there was a catch, any driver that caused a caution or a wreck lost half of the guarantee and that money went back in the pot.

FIREWORKS IN THE SKY, FIREWORKS ON THE DIRT
By Dan McGee FALLON (July 4th) – Once again Rattlesnake Raceway hosted its annual race on Independence Day. Also as part of that traditional event the track is the site of the town’s fireworks show. This means the largest crowd of the year, estimated to have been over 1,000 spectators plus mote that sat on the hill adjoining the track on the west side. Those in attendance got to see both fireworks in the sky as well as an evening of fireworks on the clay oval. Early in the evening the Sports/B Mods took to the track and this time
