FERNLEY, NV (April 22) – This weekend the Reno chapter of the Old Timers hosted a round of their national series. The site was the Sand Box as its known, or the Fernley/Wadsworth Lions Motocross Track. The format is five timed motos; three on Saturday and two Sunday. DRY VALLEY, NEVADA (April 8) – This year’s Diamond Back Hare and Hound was run at the Dry Valley OHV area. This round of MRANN’s spring series was the Lassen Motorcycle Club. BATTLE BORN MX: SEASON OPENER
FERNLEY (March 11) – Battle Born MX opened its spring series with a huge turn out at the Fernley/Wadsworth Lion’s Club Motocross Track, otherwise known as the Sand Box. On Sunday there were 434 entries. While many will ride in one or more classes this an increase in racers over the past year or so. Things were held up due to something unusual at Fernley, fog. FERNLEY, NV (FEB. 25) – The Sand Box Grand Prix has always been about bragging rights. It brings the motocross and desert racing community together to see just who is going to rule the roost. WILDFIRE 100 OPENS MRANN’S 2018 SEASON
NIGHTINGALE, NV (Feb. 18) – The Wildfire 100 opened the 2018 racing season for those that compete in the MRANN (Motorcycle Racing Association of Northern Nevada) series. Since its held on President’s Day weekend the event also turns into a huge campout for many of the competitors and their families. SPARKS (Jan. 27) – The awards banquet for theReno chapter OTHG (Over The Hill Gang) was at Pinocchios in Sparks. There the club honored their top 20, handed out special awards and mark a change of the club’s president. After a nice buffet dinner the ceremony began hosted by outgoing president Lane Kolbet. RENO, NV (Jan. 13) – The MRANN (Motorcycle Racing Association of Northern Nevada) awards banquet is time to honor the achievements of those that raced last season. DIRT SQUIRTS TAKE MRANN TO BOTTLE CREEK
BOTTLE CREEK, NV (Oct 29) – Mason Valley Dirt Squirts once again ended MRANN’s season at Bottle Creek. The Hare Scrambles event was called the Silver State Howl-A-Wheelie. The site is about 40-miles north of Imlay or 30 miles northwest of Winnemucca and is reached by good dirt roads. PURGATORY PEAK, NV (Oct. 15) – The Tankslappers Motorcycle Club hosted round 7 of this year’s MRANN series of desert races. ENDUROCROSS AT LIVESTOCK EVENTS CENTER
RENO, NV (Sept 23) – EnduroCross visited the Livestock Events Center here for round two of this year’s series. It’s one of the largest venues the series will race in and made for an action packed night. This type of racing is more like motorized Steeple Chase but with more obstacles and no water trap. There were logs to race across plus two rock gardens, as well as a tabletop filled with chopped up wood that would present a different path every time a rider crossed it. CARSON CITY FLAT TRACK RACES
CARSON CITY, NV (Aug. 19) – For the second year in a row the Carson Flat Track races returned to the Fuji Park rodeo arena. And like last year the afternoon and evening shows were a blizzard of heats and main events. This year however there were a couple of challenges that had to be dealt with. COREY HERRING MEMORIAL AT HONEY LAKE MX
MILFORD, CALIF. (June 18) – MRANN ends its spring season with the Corey Herring Memorial. The event honors a young rider lost nine years ago and is traditionally run on Father’s Day weekend. This year the 5-mile course wound around the area including a run up the hill “395” and back down as well as including sending riders through both washes on each side of the park. “Got the hole shot, dropped into this wash over here (north side), was just cruising and my mechanic, myself, the fuel line popped off,” Vaughn Wilk said after winning the Expert race.

A bit under the weather on Monday so this was slightly delayed. FERNLEY (June 11) – The final round of the Battle Born MX spring series was highlighted with rain and wind. Despite this over 200 riders were on hand, some to just race while others were after points and maybe clinching a title. While the overall turnout might have been a bit higher some classes have very good turnouts. In fact the 125/250 Beginner gate had 26 at the gate for the first moto and 23 for the second.
