  • TRAIL BLAZERS KICK OFF MRANN SEASON

    NIGHTINGALE, NV (Feb. 16) – For over 20 years the Trailblazer’s Motorcycle Club has kicked off the MRANN season with a Hare & Hound race. This year’s edition was the “Wash” ington 100. Nice weather set the stage for a great Sunday as several out of state riders showed up. In fact there were 167 on hand to get this year’s desert racing going.   • ARENACROSS RETURNS TO RENO

    RENO, NV (Feb. 8) – Once again the Reno Livestock Events Center echoed with the sounds of Arenacross. The series is now Kicker AMA Arenacross presented by Lucas Oil and it has returned to the Biggest Little City. Unlike the previous series the racing card had all the classes including both pro divisions. The afternoon was for heats and if a class had too few entries that main was run before the evening show.   • SANDBOX GRAND PRIX RETURNS

    FERNLEY, NV (Jan.5) – The popular Sandbox Grand Prix returned due to the efforts of the Over The Hill Gang Reno Chapter. A huge turnout was blessed by mild weather supplied by Mother Nature. The day began with a series of 30-minute races and before each start there was a sighting lap so the riders knew where the extended course was going to go.   • MRANN AWARDS BANQUET

    SPARKS, NV (Dec. 4) – The annual banquet for MRANN (Motorcycle Racing Association of Northern Nevada) is a night to celebrate all the champions, honor special people, award scholarship recipients and sadly to honor one that was lost. As usual there were two sets of trophies, one for the Saturday racers, where the youngest and others race on short tracks. The other set is for the big bike riders that race on the long course.   • SEASON ENDING BBMX RACE

    FERNLEY, NV (Nov. 10) – The final race for our region was held at the Fernley-Wadsworth Lion’s Motocross Track this weekend. Hosting the event was the Reno Chapter of the Over The Hill Gang and it marked the end of the BBMX season. The turnout was pretty good and a couple of the classes either had virtually or full gates in face one class had 31 riders at the gate. Helping the show was great racing weather. The big winner of the day was Casey Carmichael, who won in Schoolboy, 125/250 Intermediate as well as in 250/450 Intermediate. Several times

  • RACERS ROCK THE “FERN” WITH MOTOCROSS

    FERNLEY, NV (Oct. 20) – Motocross racers returned to the “Fern,” or the Sandbox as Battle Born MX staged the 10th round of its season. Hosting the event was the Old Timers Motorcycle club. It was a varied day as the gates would sometimes be virtually full or have a bunch of empty spaces. No matter the racing was as hard as ever and as usual the second moto was the money round for riders.   • BATTLE BORN MX AT THE SANDBOX

    FERNLEY, NV (Oct 13) – Battle Born MX (BBMX) staged round 9 of its season at the Fernley/Wadsworth Lion’s Motocross Track, also known as the Sand Box, this weekend. There was a good turn out of riders, as some gates were more than 90% full. If this keeps up soon classes will have to be divided.   • CAMEL TOW 100: FLETCHER CLINCHES CHAMPIONSHIP

    FALLON, NV (Oct. 6) – The Camel Tow 100 was Round 8 of the MRANN series and the Mason Valley Dirt Squirts staged the event. Last time MRANN raced here was in 2006 and the course lies just off a range used by the Fallon Naval Air Station. Earlier this year Larry Wright passed away and the race was also a fundraiser to help his family. There was a boot on the registration table where people could place their donations.   • MOTO MOUTH MEMORIAL 100

    NIGHTINGALE, NV (Sept. 22) – After being rained out in the spring the Trailblazers Motorcycle Club finally got to run the Moto Mouth Memorial 100. The race honors long time announcer Bob “Moto Mouth” Cavakis, who passed away almost a year ago. Rather than starting the season the race is now the sixth round and begins the fall season. Great weather set the stage for Sunday’s big bike race and 86 riders showed not only to race but to honor Cavakis as well.   • NATIONAL HARE AND HOUND: LOVELOCK TO NIGHTINGALE

    NIGHTINGALE, NV (Sept 15) – The AMA Kenda SRT National Hare and Hound series visited Northwest Nevada this weekend for a point-to-point race. Event’s title was The Dirty 130 and Trailblazers Motorcycle Club was the host. Starting line was outside of Lovelock with the finish at the end of a frontage road at Nightingale located east of Fernley, The distance raced depended on the class a rider was racing in. As an example Masters 60+ and others finished at Pit 2 or 50 miles into the course. Others stopped at Pit 3, which was at the 90-mile mark at Nightingale.

  • FUJI PARK FLAT TRACK RACES

    CARSON CITY, NV (Aug.24) – This weekend Fuji Park Flat Track races returned for two days of wild racing inside the rodeo arena. As is traditional with this event before the pros started the evening program a color guard from the Marine Corps Mountain Warfare center marched onto the front straight. Then as the colors were presented the National Anthem was sung and the night could go on. The evening Saturday show ends with the big race the Open Pro Singles.   • COREY HERRING MEMORIAL AT HONEY LAKE

    MILFORD, CA (June19) – The 10th annual Corey Herring Memorial race was held at the Honey Lake Motocross Park this weekend. Each year on Father’s Day weekend this event honors Herring, who was lost in a race and also is a fund-raiser for a scholarship fund that helps young deserving riders. The Honey Lake course, located south of Susanville, Caifonria has both the motocross and cross-country sections.     FERNLEY, NV (MAY 26) – The Over The Hill Gang Nationals were at the Fernley Motocross Track, also known as the Sandbox, this weekend. The host club is the Reno chapter and entertained other chapters from California. While entries were slightly down it still took 20 motos to include all the classes and combinations.
