This weekend is championship time for two different series, one local and the other international. Both events wind up racing for this year. • East of Fernley the desert racers of MRANN square off for their final event. The pits are located on the south side of I-80 off the Nightingale exit. Titles will be clinched while other racers are riding to secure their places in the points. The action begins Saturday with a 45-minute race for the Pee Wee riders. Then, at 11 a.m. the Mini Bikes/Women/Vintage and Bombers begin their 90-minute event. Sunday is for the big bikes

MOON ROCKS – RESULTS AND PHOTOS
Here are the official results from the Purge 100 at Moon Rocks. Wonderful weather and great racing that day. There is at least one change and that is in the Saturday Women’s results, congrats Chrystal Ponsock. And there maybe others as well and I’m also including class breakdowns. And some mispelling of names was also corrected. Best wishes at the next race, it’s a bit out of my range right now but I’ll be covering the last race east of Nightingale. RESULTS MRANN – Round 7 Purge 100 – Moon Rocks • Sunday, Nov. 2 Big Bike Overall –

MRANN RETURNS TO MOON ROCKS
WINNEMUCCA RANCH ROAD (Nov. 2) – After a two-year absence the desert racers of MRANN returned to the Moon Rocks area. For years it’s been the site of their traditional Halloween weekend event and was always a fun event. Saturday was a little tough on those racers that don’t compete on Sunday but the rain and snow set up the dirt for the Big Bikes. And that was highlighted by near perfect racing weather. The day was also time for the young lions to shine as teenaged riders took three out of the top four finishing positions. Finishing first

MOON ROCKS ARTICLE DELAYED
The expanded Moon Rocks article on MRANN’s Purge 100 event will be delayed until Thursday. The host club has to go over the finishes then will post them. This will allow me to show the overall finishes, in both Saturday races as well as the top 30 or 40 in Sunday’s event as wellas breaking it down into classes to show at least the top five. And congratulations to all the participants as well as the winners. Sorry for the delay.

RACING CALENDAR – OCT. 30 – NOV. 2
Only one event in our area this week as the desert racers of MRANN return to Moon Rocks and bring back their traditional Halloween event, the Purge 100 Hare Scrambles. As an added incentive to those racers left out due to the fact there was no fall motocross season, except for the race the local OTHG chapter staged last week, MRANN is offering a free one-day card. The action begins Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. when the Pee Wee racers take to their short track. Then at 12:30 p.m. the Mini Bikes, Saturday Women and Bombers start their event

GANG ROCKS THE SANDBOX
FERNLEY (Oct. 26) — Things looked pretty grim for the local motocross scene when SMRA pulled the plug on its fall series late this summer. However the Reno chapter of the Over the Hill Gang had other ideas. After a planned five-race series had to be scrubbed the club gathered its forces and staged a one-off race this weekend at the Sandbox, or Fernley Lions Motocross Track as its officially known. “We decided it was time to have a race,” said Layne Kolbet, president of the OTHG chapter. Saturday’s practice session was held during what seemed like a hurricane

RACING CALENDAR FOR OCT. 25/26
RENO (Oct. 23) — While there is no racing in our region this weekend for those that like Motocross the 2015 Super Cross schedule was released by Feld Entertainment. It is at the bottom of this article. NASCAR fans will enjoy both the Camping World Truck Series and Sprint Cup Series battle it out on the “Paper Clip,” or Martinsville track. It’s the shortest track the top divisions of NASCAR compete on. Saturday’s Camping World Truck series race begins at 10:30 a.m. on FOX Sports 1 while Sunday’s Sprint Cup race starts at the same time but on ESPN.

MARNN AT TOULAN + WEEK’S PREVIEW
TOULON (Sept. 28) — Rain this weekend canceled one event but another soldiered on and ran its event. Due to the conditions at the track and in the pits Rattlesnake Raceway postponed its annual Dirt Track Championship, a two-day event that brings the track’s season to a close. Yet only about 60 miles away MRANN and District 36 ran their annual combined event, The Wild Horse and Wild Pony Enduro. Unlike those racing on ovals, desert racers will compete in just about any type of weather. Saturday’s rain, plus the cool weather made perfect conditions on Sunday as there was

PROMOTOR CANCELS 2014 ARENOCROSS
In the spring of 2013 the Amsoil Arenacross didn’t have Reno on its schedule as the series pulled back to the eastern part of the country. In fact Denver was the furthest west it came that year. Seeing an opportunity promoter Robert Hansen decided the time was right to breath new life into his ArenOcross event that he created over 20-years ago. It was the first indoor motocross event at the Livestock Events Center. Eventually the ArenOcross event was absorbed into the Arenacross series and moved from its traditional November date to February. Bringing his event back to life,

SACHEZ, SIMINOE TOP EXIT 28 PROS
EXIT 28 MOTOCROSS PARK (Aug. 9)- Last week’s rainstorms left the crew here with a huge pond in front of the starting gate. After pumping the water out and grooming the track the facility was ready for Friday’s practice session. Then on Saturday the track hosted round three of the Livfast Exit 28 series. While there was wind and a steady but light rain for part of the event the track held up for some hard, fast racing, motocross style. For one Sparks rider it was a great evening as he won all his motos and even was first
