FERNLEY, NV (May 22) — Round 4 of this year’s BBMX season was staged on the motocross track at Fernley 95A Motor Sports Complex. There was a large turn out of around 515 entries so that usually means from350 to over 400 riders. There were enough riders to have several motos where the starting gate was almost full. One of them, the second 85cc Open moto, did fill the gate. In fact a couple of divisions had Consi races after the regular field was determined. WINNEMUCCA MX STARTS BBMX SEASON
WINNEMUCCA, NV (March 13) — The BBMX season opener was hosted by the Winnemucca MX Club. It was a challenging day to say the least. The club president told this reporter they had 264 riders that accounted for 468 entries since several rode in more than one class. Between the heats and the single Club Moto there were 24 motos in the first session and would be 23 in the second and that’s not counting the heat and LCQ races. ARENACROSS VISITS RENO
RENO, NV (Feb. 5) — The Kicker AMA Arenacross series set up camp for a two-day show at the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center this weekend. The result was two days that were a blizzard of heats, some LCQ’s and mains. Before every program began a JROTC group from a local high school presented the colors. BBMX AWARDS BANQUET
RENO, NV (Jan. 29) — BBMX (Battle Born Motocross) held its annual award ceremony at Boomtown. It was a packed house and there were a lot of trophies to hand out as well as raffle prizes. For those that rode in all 11 rounds there were special grand prizes that were handed out in a special raffle. BATTLE BORN MX AT THE SANBOX
FERNLEY, NV (May 16) – Once again a huge number of riders converged on the Fernley Motocross Track, otherwise known as the Sandbox. They were there to compete in round 4 of this year’s Battle Born Motocross (BBMX) series. For many classes there were almost full gates, always a good sign for the future of motocross in our area. FERNLEY, NV (Nov.8) – Sunday is when BBMX (Battle Born MX) staged its final Nevada race for this year in Fernley. As with the last one, the host club was the Reno chapter of the Over The Hill Gang. BBMX AT FERNLEY : HOT RACING, FROZEN FINGERS
FERNLEY, NV (Oct. 25) – After a many months long hiatus the Reno chapter of the Over The Hill Gang was able to stage a race at the Sand Box, or Fernley Motocross Track, this weekend. After a 70-degree Saturday for practice, racers were greeted Sunday by temperatures in the 30’s with a wind blowing. As expected there was a large group ready to race and expecting frozen fingers. FERNLEY, NV (March 15) – The opening round of this spring’s BBMX series was held at the Sandbox, or the Fernley Motocross Track This weekend was the time to shake off the rust and race again. RENO, NV (Feb. 2) – The Fall Series awards banquet for BBMX (Battle Born MX) was held at the Boomtown Casino west of Reno. This meant everyone there was warm and dry despite the wet weather that day. OTHG NATIONALS AT FERNLEY
FALLON, NV (May 27) – The Reno chapter of the Over The Hill Gang (OTHG) hosted the second round of National Motocross Championship. Its two days of racing with a traditional BBQ and party Saturday night. Friday night’s rain help set up the dirt leading into a cool and windy Saturday. On Sunday the temperature warmed up although there was still a breeze. The event consists of two motos daily and a rider’s total score determines their final finishing position in each class. SPANISH SPRINGS, NV (Feb. 10) – Battle Born MX held its fall series awards banquet and ceremony this weekend. It was an almost standing room only crowd that attended the function. Dana Losey was the MC for the event and his sister-in-law Shami Potratz acted as the presenter. When people entered the hall and signed in to their left were several tables full of things for raffle prizes as well as some gifts for the award winners. ARENACROSS ROCKs LIVESTOCK EVENTS CENTER
Indoor motocross returns after several years and puts on three days of racing. RENO (March 24/25) – After an absence of three years the Amsoil Arenacross returned to the Reno Livestock Center this weekend. Even after all this time this is the largest venue on the circuit as they mainly race in Hockey size arenas. The major class, the AX 250 had a tight points race going into the two-day show with Jace Owen and Gavin Faith being tied with the advantage going to the latter. Both shows were going to slightly shake up the run for the chanpionship .

When it’s Memorial Day weekend its also time for vet racers to grab their bikes and visit Northwest Nevada. The OTHG (Over The Hill Gang) Nationals second round of the series was held at the Fernley Lions Club’s Motocross track in Fernley. It’s a Memorial Day weekend tradition that draws local riders as well as those in California chapters. Layne Kolbet, president of the hosting Reno chapter said there were 266 veteran riders on hand.
