SPARKS (Nov. 30) – Several classes in the Northern Nevada Kart Club are very competitive. Among them is the TAG Masters class and this year the battle for that championship was between two brothers, defending champion Steve Ryckebosch and his younger brother Mike. “Steve and I are 55 and 54-years old but we are the same age for about two and a half weeks. And out of all us four brothers we are the most competitive with each other,” Mike Ryckebosch said. “Probably because we’re so close in age.” Joining them in kart racing are brothers Randy, the oldest,

CHALLENGING TIMES FOR KART SHOP
SPARKS (Nov.17) – Any shop in this area that services the go-kart community will face challenges, especially in the winter. It’s because they operate in a niche market connected to a seasonal sport. Right now Nevada Kart Sport is the only shop of this type in the area. And despite the season the owner, Rodney Rivera is committed to the survival of his business. The shop is a dream come true for him. “In 2011 I bought all Motor Machine Supply’s inventory, we moved in and started paying rent there,” he said. “It took us a while to get

MARNN AT TOULAN + WEEK’S PREVIEW
TOULON (Sept. 28) — Rain this weekend canceled one event but another soldiered on and ran its event. Due to the conditions at the track and in the pits Rattlesnake Raceway postponed its annual Dirt Track Championship, a two-day event that brings the track’s season to a close. Yet only about 60 miles away MRANN and District 36 ran their annual combined event, The Wild Horse and Wild Pony Enduro. Unlike those racing on ovals, desert racers will compete in just about any type of weather. Saturday’s rain, plus the cool weather made perfect conditions on Sunday as there was

This weekend’s racing calendar has some changes as well as one track ending its season. On Friday, starting at 6 p.m. Rattlesnake Raceway in Fallon will host its final point race of the season. The car classes are featured and there will be a demolition derby that will probably close the show. Closer to home Fernley

Racing Calendar for the Week of August 16/17
• This week’s racing calendar features a unique form of motorsport, Trials. It’s not about speed but the rider’s control as they negotiate various obstacles. The goal is earning the least amount of penalty points when a rider completes what ever course they are on. Put a foot on the ground or get stopped and a point is added, so the one with the lowest points is the winner. The Boreal Ridge Trials will be staged at the Boreal Ski Resort, just west of Donner Summit on I-80. Beginners and vintage bikes competing on Saturday starting at 10 a.m.
