RACING PREVIEW: MARCH 19 TO 22

RENO, NV (March 18) – Racing preview over the next few weeks will be pretty strange. This virus has put a dark cloud over all types of racing and other things.

CAR MEETS:

• There are two meets slated for this weekend. When this article was posted I didn’t know their actual status so just be prepared.

Sunday should start at the Dutch Brothers coffee around 9 a.m. hen Carson Cars and Coffee has it’s monthly meet. Hopefully the weather will be nice and the turn out will be good. Just to remember that social distance thing.

Later in the day, starting at noon Reno Sparks Cars and Coffee will be meeting at the Blind Onion Pizza off the Pyramid Highway. This is a rescheduled meet but I haven’t seen anything about it being cancelled.

RACING (REGIONAL):

• The test and tune scheduled for Rattlesnake Raceway this Saturday has been cancelled. The same for 95 Motor Sports Complex also cancelled there test and tune last weekend.

For you two wheeled fans BBMX has postponed it’s next two races. So the second round of the spring series won’t happen this weekend in Winnemucca.

As an early head’s up the VCGP number drawing party scheduled for March 28 has been cancelled. The race itself hopefully will be rescheduled at a later date after the virus crises calms down.

Now over to the California MX tracks. Once again things could change so I suggest calling first to see if a practice session is still on.

+ MMX (Hotline – 530-419-5200): Saturday’s practice is from 9 until 2      p.m. and used the Main, Sand and Kids tracks. Sunday’s practice is from 9     until 3 p.m. and the vintage, main, sand and kids tracks will be available.

Here is the schedule for the three REP Racing tracks. All racing has been canceled at these tracks for the next 30 days but practice sessions will go on. (Hotline – 775-266-7223).

     + Riverfront – Thursday from 4 until 9 p.m. then from 9 until 2 p.m. on      Sunday.

     + E Street – Practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

     + Prarie City – Thursday practice from 1 until 6 p.m. then from 9 until 2      p.m. Sunday.

RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIIONAL):

• What a mess this is. NASCAR won’t be racing this weekend or next weekend but they have a competition on iRACING.com.

Sebring has been postponed due to travel restrictions between the US and Europe. The race has been rescheduled in November.

Also the IMSA Weathertech Sports Car Championship season has been postponed until May 3. The World Endurance series has canceled all events through April, which eliminates a training/practice session at Le Mans.

Formula 1 has canceled its first three or four races and may not go again until the Monaco Grand Prix.

Indy Car has wiped out its season through April, this eliminates the Long Beach Grand Prix, which has been canceled and the practice session at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Racing will resume, if all goes well, in May.

For you drag racing fans the NHRA has suspended all racing for the Mellow Yellow series and at the tracks it owns. The next race they might be having is in Houston but the Las Vegas race is probably gone this year.

If you still want to see other drag racing www.nhra.tv has a tape delayed Western Nationals from Australia. The event was run earlier this year but getting the nhra.tv page was hard to do as it was so slow. Still might be something to watch.

While Top Gun Drag Strip south of Fallon is a NHRA sanctioned track they intend to have a test and tune session at the end of the month. That could change and I’ll have it in next week’s preview article.

Finally it appears this year’s AMA Supercross season is over. While there has been some comments about rescheduling the final races with the outdoor series beginning in May we’ll have to see.

So now race fans, for the time being can get their fix if they go back into the Rerun Zone on www.mavtv.com or over on www.youtube.com.

That’s it for this week, only wish I had better news. Stay safe everyone and have the best weekend you can have.
