RACING PREVIEW: JANUARY 9 TO 12

RENO, NV (Jan. 8) – This weekend’s Racing Preview shows that we’re heading out of the Re-Run Zone but not quite out of it yet. Take heart, as the days get lighter there will be more and more racing.

Car Meets:

• Sparks Cars & Coffee will host its monthly meet starting at 10 a.m. on Sunday, January 12. The location is by Buffalo Wild Wings close to the Sparks Target Store.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Race the Police event will be at Need2Speed indoor kart track Thursday.

• Need2Speed indoor kart track is hosting “Race the Police,” from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday. It’s a chance to actually be ahead of them and not get a ticket. Should be a fun time.

• Fernley 95A Speedway has a new owner and there will be a meeting Tuesday, January 21 at 6:30 p.m. to meet him. Location is the Fernley Round Table Pizza and while the meeting was supposed to be for volunteers all are welcome.

• Big news is that the AMA Kicker Arenacross is returning to the Reno Livestock Center. Dates are February 7 and 8 so it’s a Friday-Saturday night show. Amateurs will race in the afternoon and the pros have a 7:30 p.m. start time.

Tickets will go on sale soon.

RACING (REGIONAL):

• No racing in our immediate area this weekend but, if the weather cooperates, there will be practice sessions at the Northern California motocross tracks.

MMX has practice scheduled for Saturday, from 9 until 2 p.m. then 9 until 3 p.m. Sunday. The main, sand and kid’s tracks are slated to be open.

When this article was posted the other tree tracks schedule hadn’t been updates. Best advice is to check the hotline, which is working again, before heading out.

RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):

•Thursday has some live racing from overseas. The 25 Hour Series is at the Dubai Autodrome and www.motortrendondemand.com has it.

Qualifying begins at 3 a.m. with night practice starting at 5:55 a.m. so it’s an early start to the day. Later that day at 3 p.m. NBC Sports has a recap of stage 5 from the Dakar Rally in Saudi Arabia.

One can also see recaps on www.youtube.com.

Over on www.mavtv.com there is a series of races from last season being shown. Things get going at noon with the Summer Shoot Out series and ends at 5 p.m. with Madera Racing.

• Friday gets off to a very early start, at 2:30 a.m. when Motor Trend airs the 24 Hour Series race from Dubai. Later in the morning, starting at 7:30 Fox Sports 2 kicks off a NHRA marathon

Then at 6:45 p.m. it’s back to Motor Trend on Demand when the Asian LeMans Series has qualifying for its next race.

• Saturday gets going when mavtv starts another series of events from last year. First up, starting at 9:30 a.m. are the reruns of two Pro Motocross races, then a series of events ending at 7 p.m. with an ARCA race from Elko, Minnesota.

This week Supercross heads for St. Louis and he event can been seen, starting at 5 p.m, on NBC Sports or NBC Sports Gold.

Then at 6 p.m. Motor Trend on Demand has the Asian Le Mans Series with running the 4 Hours of the Bend at the Tailen Bend course.

• Sunday it’s back to mavtv and at 2 p.m. they being another series of events ending at 7 p.m. with Short Track America.
