RENO, NV (Sept 2) – Racing Preview highlights another oval track having its big race of the year as well as motorcycle action. Plus some of the last show n’ shines and cruises of the year.
SHOW N’ SHINES/CRUISES:
• Locally things get started Saturday at Baldini’s Casino in Sparks as Hot August Nights has its annual Fall Feenzy Car Show and Coat Drive. Hours are from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. and they ask for gently used coats.
• This weekend Reno Cars and Coffee has two weekend gatherings. The first happens Saturday evening when they have the Last Cruz of the Season down Virginia Street in downtown Reno. Cars, bikes and trucks are welcome but no time was listed so think it will begin late in the afternoon.
Then on Sunday, starting at 10 a.m. they’ll all gather at the Kietzke Lane Starbucks for the usual 1st Monday Show N’ Shine.
• Moving east this is the weekend for the Fallon Cowboy Fast Draw show at the Churchill County Fairground. On Saturday the Fernley Klazzic Kruizers will have a cruise starting around 9 a.m. then on Sunday there is a car show at the fairground starting again at 9 a.m.
• To the southeast in Yerington there is the Martin’s Show N’ Shine from 9 until 2 p.m. at Dressler Park.
RACING (REGIONAL):
• Fallon has a racing twin bill this weekend with two very different events.
+ Rattlesnake Raceway is hosting the 33rd Annual Dirt Track Championships, which is two complete shows but the championship for division goes to the driver with the best overall finishes during the weekend.
Saturday things get going at 4 p.m. with hot laps slated at 3:10 then Sunday has a 1 p.m. start time to the races.
+ Just south of town the Mason Valley Dirt Squirts hosts the Camel Tow 100 as part of the MRANN series. It’s also in memory of Larry Wright, who lost his life earlier this year so donations to help the family are appreciated.
The Pee Wees start Saturday at 9 a.m. and are followed at 10:30 by the Minis/Women/Vintage and Bomber race. Then at 10 a.m. Sunday the big bikes get their chance on a 48-mile course. To be classed as a finisher a rider must complete the first loop.
• Here is the schedule for the Northern California Motocross Tracks.
+ MMX Racing in Marysville has the Return of the Coupe Classic, two days of racing with a GP style race Saturday morning followed by motocross practice. Sunday will be all MX and overnight camping is available.
+ E Street MX Park on Saturday is for Sierra Old Timers only from 9 until 2 p.m. but on Sunday, with the same hours, there is open practice.
+ Riverfront MX has Thursday practice from 5 until 10 p.m. then from 9 until 2 p.m. Sunday.
+ Prairie City has new hours for Thursday practice so it’s from 1 until 6 p.m. then 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):
•As usual Thursday is slim but at 2:30 p.m. NBC Sports will have NASCAR America on followed at 3 p.m. by NASCAR Race Hub on Fox Sports 1.
• This weekend the top two series in NASCAR visit Dover, at the Monster Mile. Friday starts at 9:30 p.m. as NBC Sports airs Xfinity practice followed a 10:30 with NASCAR Cup practice.
That same day at 2 p.m. www.fanschoice.tv broadcasts the General Tire 125, a K&N Pro East ace from Dover.
• Saturday starts at 9 a.m. when CBS Sports has the DTM (German Touring Car) race from Hockenheim.
The at 9:30 a.m. NBC Sports has Xfinity qualifying followed by NASCAR Cup qualifying from Dover. Then at noon the network airs the Xfinity race.
Then at 5 p.m. MAVTV has the ARCA race from Brownsburg, Indiana.
Switching back to the Internet Fans Choice, at 9 a.m. has a Flat Tack Canada. This will be held at the Hiawatha Horse Park.
At noon the Valley Star Credit Union 200 will be aired. Next up at noon is the Valley Star Credit Union 300 from Martinsville.
Following is a group of weekly races starting at 3 p.m. with a show from Langely Speedway.
• Sunday begins at 11:30 a.m. as NBC Sports has the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup race from the Monster Mile at Dover.
CBS Sports also has a line up of racing beginning at 11 a.m. with Blancpain GT World Challenge races. Then, starting at 2 p.m. there is an hour of World of Outlaw races.
That’s a wrap for this weekend. Local dirt track is ending as it’s fall but thee will be more motorcycle racing to come. Have a safe weekend and please get out to see a race, the tracks and racers will appreciate the support.
