RACING PREVIEW: SEPTEMBER 12 TO 15

RENO, NV (Sept. 11) — As summer fades Racing Preview is still full of various events including two major ones in our region. That and what’s on in TV land as well as streaming on the Internet will keep fans busy this weekend.

Show N’ Shines/Cruises:

Reno Cars & Coffee has its third weekend of the month meet this Sunday. Photo courtesy – Lance Freitas.

• The only one this time is when Reno Cars & Coffee has a meet at Classic Coffee located by the corner of MaeAnne and McCarren. Things get going at 10 a.m. and there are usually a bunch of different cars to see and enjoy.

• Next week on Wednesday starting at 5:30 p.m. the Sparks A&W has another Show N’ Shine. This is pretty low key with cars and music provided by a D.J.

RACING (REGIONAL):

•The biggest racing event in our area is the annual Stihl National Championship Air Races  at the Reno/Stead Airport. Racing started Wednesday afternoon with heat races and continues through the weekend.

This year the Air Force Thunderbirds will highlight the show. Sunday is the big day when the Gold races are held, which determine class champions. And the Unlimited Gold race ends the event.

For further information please check www.airrace.org.

• The other major event in our area is the Kenda National Hare & Hound series race this weekend.

On Saturday at the finish line area at Nightingale the Pee Wees and kids get their chance on a short course.

A round of the National Hare & Hound series is racing in our area this weekend. Sunday’s event has riders starting outside of Lovelock and heading west to the finish at Nightingale.

Then Sunday riders from across the west, and maybe further, get ready for the “Dirty 130” race. Launch time is 10 a.m. outside of Lovelock when the banner drops and the racers head toward the finish at Nightingale, where the pavement ends on frontage road south of I-80.

While this is not a MRANN race several locals will be entered while others are manning road crossings, pits and the finish area.

• For Oval track fans Winnemucca Regional Raceway ends its season starting at 7 p.m. on Friday.

Then on Saturday, starting around 6 p.m. Rattlesnake Raceway will host another points race with a special a special feature, a Figure 8 racing with mini vans.

 • One much anticipated event sadly was canceled last week so the World of Outlaws won’t be racing Sunday at Fernley.

• South of Fallon the Top Gun Drag Strip is ending its season with a three-day show.

It’s the last $5 Friday and a 775 Import vs Domestic racing will also be contested. This is the last time for grudge racing on a Friday night.

Racing begins at 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. In addition to the regular classes there is the Mopars vs The World Challenge. This will use a pro tree and should have a good deal of tire burning action.

Then the afternoon, from 3 until 6 p.m. class winners from the ET Series have a shoot out to see who wins the Top Gunner Awards.

Unfortunately the Nor Cal Nostalgia Vintage racers have canceled but no matter there is more than enough action to see. Considering the weather we’ll have this weekend, should be an epic show.

• This weekend Battle Born MX begins the fall part of its season. The action moves to Winnemucca and as usual Saturday is for practice while racing gets going Sunday morning.
