RACING PREVIEW – July 25 to 28
RENO, NV (July 24): Racing Preview for this weekend has a lot of car shows, cruises and a bunch of different races for our region. It’s another hot summer weekend of motorsports.
SHOW N’ SHINES/CRUISES:
• Wednesday – Once again the A&W in Sparks, across from Reed High School, has another Show N’ Shine. Things start at 5 p.m. and go until closing with a DJ supplying the music.
• According to the calendar Friday will be the last cruise in at Summit Racing, located at 960 East Glendale in Sparks. The time is 6 to 8 p.m. and there is a DJ for music, food and raffle prizes.
They are supposed to resume after Hot August Nights so will check and see if this is true or not.
• Saturday is full of car shows in this area.
There is an unusual event at the Carson Mall where people can race their Hot Wheels Cars. Check in is around 11 and the action will start soon after that. It’s a chance for you Hot Wheels collectors to show off your little cars.
Back to the Sparks A&W, from 4 until 8 p.m. for the “Deer in the Headlights Car Show. “
Down in Carson City the Karson Kruzers stage the 34th annual “Run What Cha Brung” car show, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Mills Park.
There will also be a “Cruise 4 Cam” starting at 7 p.m. and it’s a benefit meet. The location IS the Southern Dutch Brothers Coffee.
That same day, from 4 until 8 p.m. there is the Classic Car Show at 7650 Town Square Lane in Somersett on the west side of Reno.
• Sunday is when Carson Cars & Coffee, starting at 9 a.m. has it’s monthly meet down at Dutch Brothers Coffee.
On Sunday there is another benefit cruise to help an injured person. It’s the 89 Cruise to Help JT and starts at 11 a.m. on the Seely Loop at Mills Park located at 1111 East Williams.
RACING (REGIONAL):
• Once again Racing Preview moves east to west across the state.
This weekend the Wild West Modified Tour is making it’s only two Nevada Stops this year.
On Friday, starting at 7 p.m. the series visits Winnemucca Regional Speedway. Then on Saturday, again starting at 7 p.m. the series races at Battle Mountain Speedway.
• To the east of Fallon the Valley Off Road Racing Association (VORRA) is staging the Silver State Forklift Fallon 250 this weekend.
Friday’s tech and registration are at the Stockman’s Casino in town and there is the chance for racers to take a slow lap around the 42-mile course located out at Salt Wells.
Saturday morning at 6 a.m. is when the motorcycles start their race. All races are timed so slower competitors may not be able to start another lap after a certain hour is reached.
At 9:30 a.m. is when the restricted classes and UTV’s will begin their race then later that day at 4 p.m. the Unlimited trucks get their chance.
Awards will be handed out on Sunday at 10 a.m. back at Stockman’s Casino.
• Closer to home there’s a two-day event at Wild West Motorsports Park. This year fans get two chances to see the stars of the Lucas Oil Off Road Series compete in a pair of night races.
Gates open Friday and Saturday at 4 p.m. but qualifying is at 2:30 and there is a driver’s autograph session at 4:30 each day. The Karts and UTV’s begin their races at 5 p.m. followed by opening ceremonies at 7 p.m. when the big classes begin their racing.
• Another Saturday event is the annual night race put on by the Northern Nevada Kart Club. Practice should begin around 3:30 p.m. then they’ll race into the night. Many of the karts will have special decorative lighting.
• Over in Northern California there will be practice sessions. MMX Racing has those sessions from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Unfortunately when I posted this article REP Racing MX had not updated it’s hot line. So the best advice is to call that hot line at 775-265-7223 or check the Face Book pages for the three tracks.
RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):
• As usual Friday is a bit slim but there are some races to see.
Over in TV Land at 9 a.m. ESPN 3 has Formula 1 Welcome to the Weekend from Hockenheim, Germany. Then at 2 p.m NBC Sports has NASCAR America.
At 4 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has Friday Night Nitro Live from Sonoma Raceway.
Going over to www.fanschoice.tv at 4 p.m. they will stream an APC Series race from Jukasa Speedway.
Switching over to www.dirtovaltv.com at 5:30 p.m. they’ll stream a race from Willamette Speedway featuring the Interstate Sprint Cars, IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Stock Cars.
• Friday at 1 p.m. is when Fox Sports 1 airs the ARCA race from Pocono. Switching back to Fans Choice TV at 5:30 p.m., they’ll stream a NASCAR K&N Pro Series race from Iowa Speedway.
• Saturday begins early as ESPN 2 at 5:55 a.m. has Formula 1 qualifying from Germany. Later at 10 a.m. Fox shows the Gander Mountain Outdoors Truck race from Pocono.
After that NBC Sports has two qualifying sessions. At 11:30 a.m. they show the Indy Car qualifying from Mid Ohio followed at 1 p.m. by the NASCAR Cup teams qualifying from Pocono.
Then at 3 p.m. NBC Sports has the Xfinity race from Iowa Speedway.
Once again if fans of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross series don’t have NBC Sports Gold they’ll be doing some channel switching.
MAVTV gets things rolling at 1 p.m. with the first 250 moto then at 2 p.m. with the first 450 moto from Washougal. The second motos can be seen on NBC Sports starting at 7 p.m. with the second 250 moto then at 8 p.m. they will show the second 450 moto.
Leaving TV land for a bit www.fanschoice.tv has a day full of races to stream.
It begins at 9 a.m. with a Flat Track Canada event from Lamboro Downs. Then at 3:15 there is a race from Edmonton International Speedway followed at 3:30 p.m. by the Beach Bash from Berlin Speedway.
At 4 p.m. the Southern Ground Ponders event will be streamed from Langley Speedway and after that check the site as there are a bunch of weekly racing on tap.
Back to www.dirtovaltv.com at 6 p.m. they stream races from Cottage Grove Speedway featuring the Interstate Sprint Car Series as well as the Late Model Loggers Cup race.
• Now back to TV Land as Sunday begins early at 6:05 a.m. as ESPN shows the Grand Prix of Germany as the Formula 1 racers tackle the very fast circuit at Hockenheim.
Then at noon NBC Sports has the Monster Energy Cup race from the “Triangle,” Pocono. This three-corner track with a very long front straight presents some unusual problems for the teams.
At 1 p.m. NBC will air the Indy Car race from Mid Ohio, one of the classic road racing circuits in this country.
Drag racing fans won’t be disappointed as the Mellow Yellow NHRA event, the Sonoma Nationals starts with Sunday Live on Fox Sports 1. Then at 3 p.m. Fox airs the final rounds followed at 7 p.m. over on Fox Sports 1 with the Pro Stocks.
That’s it for this weekend, do try and get out to a live race if possible. There is nothing like being present for the color, speed and excitement of live racing.
