RENO, NV (JULY 17) – Racing Preview for this week has a bunch of Show ‘N Shines, Cruises as well as racing. There is just about anything a car or race fan could want.
SHOW ‘N SHINE/CRUISES:
• This week’s Thursday night cruise in Carson City goes from 5 until 7 p.m. and starts at Hooten Tire located 2580 North Carson Street.
• The Carson Mall’s cruise will be this Friday with registration beginning at 5 p.m., trophies at 7:30 and there is food, music and raffles. They ask you to bring non-perishable food to benefit F.I.S.H., a local charity.
• Friday is when the Cruise In at Summit Racing in Sparks located at 960 East Glendale happens. Times are from 6 until 8 p.m. with a DJ and raffle prizes.
• Saturday has two car shows and a cruise.
The first is the Comstock Classics Show at Miners Park in Virginia City. Registration begins at 8 a.m. with awards presented at 2 p.m.
Down in Carson City it’s the Lodge Car Show and Alzheimer’s Association Fund Raiser. The show runs from 10 until noon and is at The Lodge, Assisted Living and Memory Care Community located at 2200 E. Long Street.
That morning the Northern Nevada Camaro Club will meet at Summit Racing in Sparks at 10 a.m. then at 11 begin their cruise to Graeagle.
• Reno Cars and Coffee has a Show N’ Shine this Sunday beginning at 10 a.m. The location is Classic Rock Coffee located at 5150 Mae Anne Avenue, by the corner with west McCarren.
RACING (REGIONAL):
• Racing this weekend extends from Elko to Quincy down in Feather River country.
Summit Raceway in Elko has a two-day show with racing beginning at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Moving west Battle Mountain Speedway will be in action Saturday with the Outlaw Karts starting at noon and a 7 p.m. start for the cars.
The Good Times Drag Strip in Winnemucca has racing starting at 6 p.m. on Saturday using the 1/8th mile track. It’s the Good Times Test N’ Tune event with a King of the Hill trophy and money.
Rattlesnake Raceway, located just east of downtown Fallon, has racing on Saturday. This time the Outlaw Karts may start before noon and 6 p.m. is when the cars should take to the track.
Both the Nevada Pro Stocks and Winged Sprint Cars are supposed to be at the track. There will be a fans/drivers meet and greet at the intermission.
Closer to Reno the Norcal Rock Racing group will visit Wild Motorsports Park for a Friday-Saturday show. This time it will be an all side-by-side event where all the UTV classes will be racing.
Moving over to California the American Valley Speedway in east Quincy has a two-day show, the Gordon Peard Trucking races. The action begins Friday and Saturday at 6 p.m. and the IMCA winner will pocket $1,000 each night.
Finally Diamond Mountain Speedway up in Susanville, California has fair races Sunday evening. The action begins at 7 p.m. and the track is located at the Fairgrounds.
• The practice schedule for the Northern California motocross tracks is as follows:
MMX Racing has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Prairie City has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. E Street MX Park has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Riverfront has practice from 5 until 10 p.m. Thursday and from 9 until 2 p.m. Sunday.
Saturday is race day and the gates open at noon, practice begins at 4 p.m. with racing to follow.
RACING (NATIONAL):
Now we switch over to TV and Internet Land for this weekend’s racing.
• As usual Thursday is a bit slim but at 2 p.m. NBC Sports has NASCAR America. Then at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub.
It’s a good time to check out www.youtube.com for some races one might have missed.
• Friday begins at 9:15 on NBC Sports with NASCAR Cup practice at Loudon, New Hampshire followed at 10 a.m. with Xfinity practice. Then at 1:30 p.m. the NASCAR Cup teams qualify for Sunday’s race.
Switching to the Internet, www.fanschoice.tv at 11:10 a.m. has the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour All-Star Shootout from Loudon.
Then Fox Sports 1 at 4 p.m. has NHRA Friday Nitro Live from Denver.
• Saturday is a busy day as usual starting at 7 a.m. when CNBC has NASCAR Cup practice followed at 8:15 on NBC Sports with Xfinity qualifying followed at 1 p.m.with the Xfinity race.
This weekend the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross series is at Millville and once again, unless one has NBC Sports Gold there will be some channel switching to see it all.
MAVTV has the first 250 moto at 11 a.m. followed at noon by the first 450 moto.
If one wants to see the IMSA Weathertech Sportscar race from Lime Rock there are two ways to do so. If you have NBC Sports Gold the race begins at noon but it is shown on a delayed basis over on NBC Sports at 6:30 p.m.
NBC Sports will air the Indy Car race from Iowa starting at 4 p.m. then at 10 p.m. the network shows the second 250 moto from the Pro Motocross event followed at 11 p.m. with the second 450 moto.
• Switching over to the Internet www.fanschoice.tv has a bunch to watch on Saturday.
At 11 a.m. they’ll stream the NASCAR Whelen Modified race from Loudon followed at 3:30 p.m. by non-winged sprint cars from Berlin Raceway. Then at 3:45 they stream the NASCAR K&N race from Loudon.
After that there are a bunch of races listed but the viewer might not be able to see all of them so do check the schedule.
For you sprint car fans www.dirtovaltv.com has several races from Oregon. Do check the schedule for the event you want to see.
• Sunday begins at 10 a.m. as Fox Sports 1 has NHRA Sunday live. Then at noon NBC Sports airs the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup race from Loudon.
Over on Fox Sports 1 starting at noon they show the NHRA Dodge Mile High Nationals from Denver. This race begins the annual western swing by the NHRA drag racers.
