RACING PREVIEW: JUNE 27 TO 30

RENO, NV (JUNE 26) – This week’s Racing Preview is full of car and cruising events as well as racing. Thankfully the weather gods are giving us another great weekend.

CARS & CRUISES:

• Thursday:

      + This week the Carson City Thursday Night Cruise, from 5 until 7:30 p.m. will start at the Wing Stop, 3965 South Carson Street.

• Friday:

      + Once again there is a cruise in at Summit Racing, 960 East Glendale in Sparks from 6 until 8 p.m. and there is a DJ as well as a raffle. Nice way to end the work week.

      + That same evening from 5:15, when registration, begins until 7:30 p.m. there is another Last Friday cruise at the Carson Mall. Each cruise benefits a different local charity.

• Saturday:

      + There is a special event this weekend held in memory of long time Carson Speedway racer Tom Shelton. The proceeds benefit the Cancer Society and Relay for Life.

      It’s the 4th Annual Iron Rebels Car Show that starts at 11 a.m. with a $10 entry fee. There will be trophies, vendors, food and drinks available as well as hourly raffle prizes.

      The location is at Shelton Racing & Fabrication located at 3600 Challenger Way in Carson City. The event continues until everyone is ready to go home.

      + That same day Baldini’s Casino in Sparks, from 9 until 2 p.m., hosts the Freedom Festival Car show. This is a free event.

      + There is a weekend event as the Virginia City MM group is having the Middlegate Poker Run Friday through Saturday. UTV’s and Motorcycles are welcome, there is camping, the event begins at 9:30 a.m. Saturday and ends with a BBQ.

RACING (REGIONAL):

      + The annual Mammoth Motocross is going on, a week of two-wheel action at the resort. Winning riders get a prized trophy called “The Bear”, which is shaped like one.

      + Tuesday through Thursday are the Mini Race Days when the youngsters get their turn to show their racing skills in various classes and age groups.

      + Friday is Open Racing, Schoolboy 1 &2, 25 Years+ and 125 All-Star.

      + Saturday is 250 Day, FMF 2-Stroke Challenge,College Boy and 125cc 12-17.

      + Sunday is for the big guns as it╒s 450 day and when       the  250B/C Open, Women’s 12Years+ and 250C Jr. 12-16 take to the track.

We here at nvracingnews want to extend best wishes to our local racers down there. Bring home some bears everyone.

      + Closer to home on Saturday Fernley 95A Speedway hosts another of its regular shows starting at 6 p.m. with the new spectator area in Turn 4.

      + The Northern Nevada Kart Club is in action Sunday, starting around 10 a.m. at Desert Park Raceway. The track is located about a quarter mile on the dirt extension of Lemmon Drive.

      + The Reno Region of the SCCA is staging two days of autocross action this weekend. Autocross is a race against the clock and the action begins at 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.

This time the event is at the Regional Public Safety area located on Spectrum Blvd.

      + Over the hill in Northern California four motocross tracks have weekly practice sessions.

MMX has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

      E Street MX Park has sessions from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Riverfront has a Thursday session from 5 until 10 p.m. then from 9 until 2 p.m. Sunday.

      Prairie City has its sessions from 9 until 2 p.m. Thursday as well as Saturday and Sunday.

RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL)

Now we switch over to TV Land and the Internet for what is going on across the country and overseas. This weeks marks the shift from Fox to NBC Sports for NASCAR╒s Xfinity and Cup coverage.

• Thursday:     

+ As usual this is a slim day but at 2 p.m. NBC Sports airs NASCAR America Then at 5 p.m. Fox Sports 1 broadcasts an ARCA race from Chicagoland.

• Friday:

      + NBC Sports gets things rolling at 1 p.m. with Xfinity practice from Chicagoland then at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 2 airs the Gander Outdoors Truck Series qualifying.

Things switch back to NBC Sports at 4 p.m. for the final Xfinity Practice then goes to Fox Sports 1   for the Gander Outdoors Truck race.

• Saturday:

      + The day gets rolling at 8 a.m. as NBC Sports airs   NASCAR Cup practice followed by Xfinity qualifying from Chicagoland.

      + This week the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross series is at Southwick and unless a viewer has subscribed to NBC Sports Gold there is some channel switching needed.

      The first 250 moto goes at 10 a.m. followed at 11 a.m. with the first 450 moto and these can be seen on MAVTV. The second 250 moto is delayed until 4:30     p.m. followed at 5:30 p.m. and can be seen on NBC Sports.

      + Earlier, at noon NBC Sports aired the Xfinity Race followed at 3:30 p.m. by NASCAR Cup qualifying.

     + Switching over to the Internet www.fanschoice.tv has a long list of events to stream starting at 8:25 a.m. with IMSA Weathertech Sports Car qualifying from Watkins Glen.

      Further down the list the American Flat Track event from the Lima Half-Mile will be streamed at 10:30 a.m. and at 5 p.m. an event from Bowman Gray Stadium will be shown.

      If one has never seen a race from the confines of Bowman Gray, well things get pretty wild at these events. There are also several weekly races that will be streamed.

• Sunday:

     + The day begins early at 6:05 a.m. when ESPN airs the Formula 1 race from Austria. If you live in Reno the race will be broadcast, with Spanish speaking announcers, on an over-the-air channel, which this reporter believes is 148.

      + The IMSA Weathertech Sports Car race, the 6-Hours of Watkins Glen begins at 6:35 a.m. on www.imsa.tv then is rebroadcast on a delayed basis at   4 p.m. by NBC Sports.

      + The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup event begins at noon from Chicagoland and can be seen on NBC Sports.

      + Switching back to Fanschoice.tv Sunday begins very early as that network streams two NASCAR Whelen Euro race beginning at 1:15 a.m. for the first one then 5:30 a.m. for the second.

      Then at 1:30 p.m. there is a NWAAS Racing and Drift event streamed from Thompson Speedway to end the weekend.
