RENO, NV (March 6) – Racing Preview for this week highlights the year’s first local race as well as a major off-road one in Southern Nevada. This is addition to a local car meet and other races nationally and internationally.
CARS/CRUISES:
- It’s the second weekend in March and that means Sparks Cars & Coffee is hosting their car monthly meet.
It happens this Sunday, starting at 10 a.m. at the Sparks Dunkin’ Donuts, by the Target store off Sparks Blvd. These meets are a great way to meet fellow car people.
RACING (REGIONAL):
- First race in this region is a combined MRANN/AMA District 36 event held just a mile and a half outside of Toulon, located west of Lovelock off I-80.
Saturday is an all MRANN format. Things get rolling at 9 a.m. Pee Wees followed a combined Mini Bike, Saturday Women as well as Bombers on a short course.
Sunday, starting at 9 a.m. is when the Wild Horse Sprint Enduro begins with three separate groups doing two laps on a 30-mile loop.
• Over the hill the Northern California Motocross tracks are recovering from our recent storm.
No word by Wednesday evening about MMX so one should call their hotline, which is 1-530-419-5200.
Rep Racing MX also put on their hotline that all three of their tracks, , E Street, Riverfront and Prairie City, are closed through Friday. The hotline will be updated Friday evening when it is known which tracks might be open during the weekend.

• Once again the Fernly Lion’s Motocross Track is closed as the Over The Hill Gang continues its work to improve and revamp the facility before next week’s race.
RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):
- There are three major national events in this week’s Racing Preview, NASCAR continues its western swing, Indy Car starts its season as well as a classic off-road race in Southern Nevada.
• Over in TV Land on Thursday at 2 p.m. NBC Sports has NASCAR America then an hour later at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub.
• Friday gets rolling at 7:34 a.m. for those that have the NBC Sports Gold Package as the networks broadcasts Indy Car practice from St. Petersburg, Florida.
Then at noon Fox Sports 1 starts with Xfinity Practice from Phoenix followed at 3 p.m. with NASCAR Cup qualifying.
• Saturday is a busy day in this week’s Racing Preview. Things get started at 9:30 a.m. with Xfinity qualifying on Fox Sports 1 followed at 1 p.m. with their race.
Over on the Internet there are two events that are streamed.
- The Mint 400 now is a two-day event with the motorcycles and limited trucks running Saturday. The event is live streamed starting at 10 a.m. at www.themint400.com , once there click the live button.
Another event starting at 10 a.m. is the Day of Destruction from Langley Speedway and www.fanschoice.tv, will stream it.
Over on www.mavtv.com at 3 p.m. there will be two FIM Sidecarcross races shown.
• Back to TV Land for this week’s Supercross event at the Daytona Motor Speedway. This can be seen live at 4:30 p.m. on NBC Sports.
- Sunday is another full day starting at 12:30 a.m. as Fox Sports 1 has Formula E from Hong Kong then at 8 a.m. CBS Sports has Snowmobile racing.
Down in Southern Nevada, starting at 9:30 a.m. it’s day two of this year’s Mint 400. The remaining classes including the UTV’s are racing.
Once again it is live streamed on www.themint400.com and be sure to click the “live” button.
- Over at NBC Sports at 10:30 a.m. it’s the season opener for the Indy Car series as they race at St. Petersburg, Florida. This is usually an action packed race with new drivers and teams all trying to get that important first victory of the season.
Two stops remain on NASCAR’s western swing for the Cup cars. This weekend’s race is in Phoenix with a 12:30 p.m. start time as FOX again broadcasts the race from this one-mile oval. Then the series moves west to Fontana, California to complete the swing before heading back to the southeast.
During the afternoon www.mavtv.com has a series of reruns an ends Sunday at 5 p.m. with Tony Stewart’s Circuit of Champions followed at 6 p.m. by Raceline.
