FERNLEY, NV (Jan. 26) – The Nevada Pro Stock Association held a general meeting at the Silverado Casino here. The subject was preparations for the upcoming season as well as the connection with the Tri-State Pro Stock Challenge.
President Travis Petersen got the meeting started and soon mentioned the association has a new website. He added they’re working with the Tri-State Pro Stock Challenge so there will be more events for the drivers to compete in.

He also mentioned that at this time it appears there’s not going to be pro stock race at American Valley Speedway in Quincy. He added that the effort to change this is on going but it will leave a hole in the schedule.
One suggestion is to see if the NPSA can host a test and tune session as well as a demonstration race at some of the tracks they will appear it. That’s something to be considered but it would have to be arranged.
Petersen also asked how many would support at race at Battle Mountain for their Silver Cup weekend at the end of August. It’s a good haul for most drivers but he explained the facility would be a good place to race.
Then the subject turned to money. Vice President Mike McMordie commented right now the minimum winner’s prize is still at $1,000 although that might be raised if more sponsorship is found.
Petersen mention the Tri State Races will also have a minumu of $1,000 to win but the September 15th race at the Stockton Dirt Track is for at least $5,000 to win and even more depending on sponsorship money.
While NPSA usually doesn’t participate in two-day events but there is one at Winnemucca Regional Raceway. It’s the High Desert Classic Shootout that runs Saturday and Sunday during the first weekend in June.
Another item discussed was tech inspections. Last year’s starter Mike Ellison will be back and this season he’ll be taking care of tech inspections.
B.J. Pearson inquired if it would be possible to have an early tech inspection so if anything needed to be changed on a car the owner or driver would know ahead of time.
Another idea, to keep things on a level field, is to have a wheel where areas on a car would be listed. One driver would spin the wheel and which ever area came up would be that night’s focus in the post race inspections.
Another idea suggested by B.J. Pearson was to have sheets, cards or maybe a program type that lists not only the driver but any sponsor that puts in at least $500 to help that team.
McMordie also requested head shots of the driver, a picture of their car as well as a bio and list of a team’s sponsors. This information could also be listed on the association’s website.
It seems NPSA’s connection with the Tri-State Challenge has gotten a lot of interest from drivers in California. McMordie sai he and Petersen have been contacted by several California drivers, some of whom are using NPSA rules when they build their cars so they can race here.
The association’s e-mail address was also given so those wishing direct communication can use it.
Kari Gonzalez was also there taking notes and suggestions.
Petersen ended his remarks by telling everyone that at 6:30 p.m.Tuesday after every race there will be a general meeting at the Silverado Casino as the association has been offered the restaurant’s lounge on those evenings.

With that Petersen ended the meeting although there were some questions to be answered and this reporter had time to get some comments.
“We’re in the final stages, we’ve just got a couple of things to work out and we should be able to have the schedule up in about a week or less,” he said. “And I’m really excited about where we’re headed this year. Everyone that’s on the board this year is just awesome and very excited, the energy is insane with what we’re doing this.”
He added that there is more effort coming to try and secure a date at American Valley Speedway.
“I can’t remember when we haven’t had a date at Quincy in the last 10 years or so,” he said. “We were track champions there and I have a special spot in my heart and for Curt, he’s a great guy and does an amazing job there too.”
Petersen is pumped up, which certainly showed during his presentation, and looking forward to the season to start in a few months.
