RACING PREVIEW: JULY 5 TO 8

RENO, NV (July 4) – Racing Preview this week has a bunch of cruises as well as car shows in our area for this holiday weekend. And I’m introducing a different type of racing for Monday’s article.

CRUISE AND CAR SHOWS:

This week’s Thursday cruise in Carson City, from 5 until 7:30 p.m. will base out of Wing Stop located at 3965 South Carson Street.

Summit Racing, from 6 until 8 p.m. will have its usual Cruise In show.

Classic Car Show

To the east in Fallon there is the First Friday Show and Shine. Sign in is from 3 until 4 p.m. at East Center Street by the Farmer’s Market,

Saturday over in Sparks there’s the Kerakk Shrine Car Show from 5 until 9 p.m. at the A&W at 1311 Baring Blvd.

Sunday starts at 9 a.m. when Sparks Cars and Coffee has its monthly get together at the Dunkin Donuts.

The day ends with the DooWop@DoughBoys Cruise Night that that runs from 5:30 until 9 p.m. The shop is located on Damonte Ranch Parkway.

Last Cruise to Reno A&W announcement.

Next Wednesday there will be another cruise night at the Sparks A&W but it will mark the final cruise at Reno’s A&W located at the corner of Plumb and Keitzke. That shop closes by the end of August as the property is being converted to an auto dealer’s facility.

That same evening 103.7 The River will hold it’s next cruise night, from 5:30 until 7:30, at the Tamarack Junction located on South Virginia by Damonte Ranch Parkway.

RACING (Regional):

If you enjoyed seeing the Super Crawl a few weeks ago at Wild West Motorsports Park there is another rock crawling event this weekend

The W.E. Rock Western Series Round 3 will be held at the Donner Ski Ranch at Norden, California. The action begins at 10 a.m. both days and these vehicles do some crazy things as they negotiate the courses.

There are four BMX tracks in our region and they offer youngsters, as well as those not so young, a chance to race bicycles. Riders need a USA BMX membership but one-day passes are offered to new riders.

(I will post the schedules for these tracks in my Monday article, which will focus on the Reno facility located in Sun Valley.)

For those wanted to get in some motocross practice three tracks in Northern California will have sessions this weekend.

Riverfront has their sessions from 5 until 10 p.m. Thursday then from 9 until 2 p.m. Sunday. Prairie City has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.

E Street MX Park has sessions from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday with both tracks available.

RACING (National):

Switching to TV Land there is a bunch to watch especially since NASCAR has moved is traditional 4th of July race at Daytona to this weekend.

Thursday begins at 10 a.m. with Xfinity and NASCAR Cup practice aired on NBC Sports then at 3 p.m. the network will have NASCAR America.

This weekend the Formula One series moves to its spiritual home at the Silverstone track in Britain. Most of the teams are located just a few miles from this classic circuit.

ESPN 2 begins Friday at 1:55 a.m. with the first practice then has the second at 5:55 a.m. but on ESPN U.

NBC Sports starts at 6:30 a.m. with practice sessions followed at 10 a.m. with Xfinity and NASCAR Cup qualifying. Then at 4:30 p.m. the network has the Xfinity race.

Saturday begins at 5:55 a.m. as ESPN has Formula One qualifying from Silverstone

The Lucas Oil Pro Motocross series is at the Red Bud track this weekend and again there is split coverage. MAVTV has the first motos beginning at 10 a.m. followed on NBC at 12:30 p.m. with the second 450 moto and the second 250 moto will air at 2 p.m.

At 10:30 a.m. Fox Sports One has Nirto Live from the NHRA New England Nationals.

Then at 12:30 p.m. NBC Sports has Indy Car qualifying from Iowa. At 4 p.m. NBC has the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup race from Daytona

Over at www.fanschoice.net the Harley-Davdson New York Short Track race will be streamed starting at 11 a.m. Then starting at 3:30 p.m. short track oval racing will be streamed first from Berlin Raceway followed by a race at Langley Speedway.

Back to TV land as Sunday gets a very early start at 6:05 a.m. when ESPN airs the classic British Grand Prix from Silverstone.

NHRA

Mike Salinas will compete in Top Fuel this weekend at the NHRA New England Nationals.

Then at 10 a.m. Fox Sports 1 has the NHRA New England Nationals from Epping. Later at 1 p.m. the networks has a delayed broadcast from the IMSA Weather Tech Sports Car race from Bowmanville.

The Indy Car race from Iowa will be shown at 11:30 a.m. on NBC Sports.

For those Formula One fans that didn’t record or got up early enough fear not the race will be repeated at 6 p.m. on ESPN News.
