RACING PREVIEW: APRIL 26 TO 29

RENO, NV (APRIL 25) – Once again this week’s racing preview is full of events that should satisfy almost any race fan. There are a several events locally, in Northern California as well as across the nation and overseas.

NPSA

Nevada Pro Stock Association begins its 2018 season this weekend.

Saturday is a big day as Rattlesnake Raceway in Fallon hosts large racing card. The action begins at 6 p.m. and features the car classes, Mad Metal Mud Drags as well as the opening round of this year’s season for the Nevada Pro Stock Association.

Down in Feather River Country the American Valley Speedway will again see racing starting at 7 p.m. In addition to the regular classes the Dwarf Cars will be visiting as a tune up for their national event the following week.

Over the hill MMX is having one of its Saturday Nights Under the Lights events at that course in Marysville. For more information either call the hotline at 530-419-5200 or www.facebook.com/mmxracing.

There are also three two-day events in our region.

VCGP

Virginia City Grand Prix returns to the Comstock for two days this weekend.

The biggest event in this area is the annual Virginia City Grand Prix that brings riders from across the west and sometimes even from Canada. It’s a motorcycle race that any competitor would like to ride in and win.

Saturday starts at 10 a.m. on the main street and the Pros and Amateurs will race. On Sunday, also starting at 10 a.m. is the second race that is an hour shorter. Novice, Women, Bombers, Vintage and this year a new “Senior’s” class will all ride.

To the east Top Gun Raceway, located south of Fallon begins its drag racing season.

Saturday has test and tuning from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. then the racing begins with the Summit ET #1 and the Junior Dragsters #1 events. Things continue Sunday with the next rounds, Summit ET #2, Junior Dragster #2 and the first ET Challenge.

Another event is Arenacross at the Livestock Events Center in Reno. The schedule is shortened so the Pros will race Saturday evening, probably starting at 6 p.m. while the Amateurs get their turn Sunday on an altered track.

There are a couple of two-day special events over in Northern California. The first is the KPX go kart series round in Atwater and some of our local drivers will be racing there.

The other is at Prairie City as there is a round of the Over The Hill Gang National Series. Friday is for practice while Saturday and Sunday are the races where some from the local chapter should be there.

Moving over to TV and Internet Land there is a bunch of racing to watch or stream.

Thursday starts at 2 p.m. as NBC Sports broadcast NASCAR American then at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub.

The rest of the day is pretty slim but reruns can be seen on www.youtube.com.

Friday begins on Fox Sports 1 at 8:35 a.m. with practice for the Xfinity and NASCAR Cup series from Talladega. Then at 11:35 a.m. there will be qualifying for the Cup cars.

Fox Sports 1 continues at 3 p.m. with an ARCA race from Talladega then at 5 p.m. the network airs NHRA qualifying from Charlotte, North Carolina.

Saturday has a very early start at 5:55 a.m. as ESPN 2 has Formula One qualifying from Azerbaijan.

Fox Sports 1 has Infinity Qualifying at 8 a.m. then the race at noon. Over on Fox Sports 1 there is more NHRA qualifying then at 2:30 p.m. on FOX the AMA Supercross from Salt Lake City will be shown.

That same day on www.fanschoice.tv a flat track race from Texas Motor Speedway will be shown followed at 3:30 p.m. by College Night at Berlin Speedway.

NASCAR Cup

Sunday begins bright and early at 5:05 a.m. with the Formula One race from Azerbaijan shown on ESPN 2. Then at 11 a.m. FOX airs the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup race from Talladega.

Finally at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has the NHRA 4-Wide Nationals from Charlotte.
