RENO (May 31) —Racing preview this week picks up after last weekend’s marathon. And the beat goes on as there are two very different major races in our region as well as the regular events.
The closest is Battle Born Moto Festival at the Wild West Motorsports Park. Gates should open at 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Last year it was just a hill climb but this year there will be a whip contest as well as jumping by LivFast.
And there is an enduro that uses much of the same course the Ultra 4 racers use but this time the riders will go up abut 200 feet of rocks. The event is 90-minutes which is going to be a real test of the rider an their machine.
The other major event is south of Fallon at the Top Gun Raceway, which hosts the NHRA Pacific National Open Series this weekend. Things begin Friday afternoon with a test and tune session.
Saturday’s qualifying begins at 9 a.m. followed by Jr. and Et eliminations as well as the Nor-Cal Top Dragsters. On Sunday qualifying again starts at 9 a.m. with elimination starting around 11 a.m.
If you’re out at Fallon on Saturday the high school is the site of a Spaghetti feed fundraiser during the evening. Half the funds go to help young go kart racer Tarron Graves while the other half goes to the VFW to benefit veterans and event runs from 5:30 to 7:30 that evening.
For those riders wanting to compete at this summer’s Loretta Lynn’s nationals there is a regional scheduled this weekend at the Prairie City course with practice from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Friday.
Gates open at 6 a.m. Saturday and Sunday with practice starting at 8 a.m. and racing following both days.
E Street MX Park will also have practice from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Closer to home Battle Born MX stages the next event in its spring series out in Winnemucca. Practice is on Saturday with the first motos slated around 9 a.m. Sunday.
Right next door the Winnemucca Regional Speedway is hosting two days of oval track racing with a 2 p.m. start time each day. On Saturday the Dwarf Cars will race for $1,000 to win while on Sunday the Hobby Stocks get their shot at $1,000 to win.
To the south Tonopah Speedway will host its third race of the season on Saturday. Over in Quincy, Calif. the American Valley Speedway hosts the visiting Nevada Pro Stock Association as well as its regular classes and there is a 7 p.m. start time.
And we here at nvracingnews.com want to extend our best wishes to those local racing or participating in this weekend’s SCORE Baja 500. Good luck to all of you down there.
Over on TV land there is also a buffet that should satisfy almost any race fan. And please remember all times listed are Pacific Daylight.
Thursday is a bit slim but at 2:20 p.m. NBC Sports airs NASCAR American while at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub.
Friday begins at 6:30 a.m. on Fox Sports 2 as that network broadcast practice and qualifying sessions from the Monster Mile at Dover. And at 11:35 a.m. Fox Sports 1 has qualifying followed at 2:20 p.m. by the Camping World Truck series race.
Then at 4:30 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NHRA qualifying from Epping, New Hampshire.
The IMSA Weather Tech series gets Saturday rolling at 9:30 a.m. from Detroit. Over on Fox Sports 1 at 10 a.m. the Xfinity race will air.
This week the Indy Car series has two races with the first starting from Detroit at 12:20 p.m. Saturday on ABC.
The Pro Motocross series has a split broadcast schedule with the first motos from Thunder Valley starting at noon on MAVTV.
And for those interested in the Isle of Man TT event starting at 5 p.m. Velocity will have at least a recap from the day’s action.
Over on the Internet www.fanschoice.tv has a few events they will stream on Saturday.
Starting at 11 a.m. the American Flat Track series hosts another race in its series. Starting at 3:30 p.m. races will be streamed in half hour programs from Berlin Raceway, Langley Speedway and ending with an event from Tucson Speedway.
Sunday begins at 10 a.m. on Fox Sports 1 with the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup event from Dover. Then at 12:30 p.m. ABC airs the second Indy Car race from Detroit.
The second motos of the Pro Motocross series from Thunder Valley will be shown at 3 p.m. on NBC Sports. And finally the delayed broadcast from the New England Nationals at Eeping, New Hampshire airs at 1:30 p.m. on Fox Sports 1.
That’s it for this weekend. Remember if possible to get out and attend a live racing event as there is nothing like being there in person for excitement, speed and color.
