Racing preview for this week has three different events in our area plus a bunch on TV and the Internet.
Things begin to wind up Friday evening as Rattlesnake Raceway in Fallon hosts its annual car show at Stockman’s Casino. Hours are from 6 p.m. until 9 and it’s a great way to see some of the cars before the season begins.
On Saturday the track begins its season. The Outlaw karts start their practice and heat races early in the afternoon then run their first two races starting at 5:30 p.m.
The cars are scheduled to start their part of the show around 6 p.m.
Sunday racing begins in Fernley as the Old Timers club hosts the second round of this year’s Battle Born spring MX series. As usual the first gate should drop around 9 a.m. to start the show.
Closer to home the Northern Nevada Kart Club begins its season at Desert Park Raceway. While practice begins early the first heat races should start around 10 a.m.
For anyone wanting some MX practice time there is good news from over the hill. The course at Prairie City will be open for practice Thursday from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
On this weekend both Prairie City and E Street MX Park in Marysville will be open from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Still it’s a good idea to call the hotline (775-265-7223) and double check.
For those planning to race in this year’s Virginia City Grand Prix the drawing party for numbers starts at 4 p.m. Saturday in the Red Dog Saloon. If you have a vintage bike they’d like you to bring it up and display it.
Over in TV Land things are pretty slow Thursday but at 2:30 p.m. NBC Sports airs NASCAR American while, at 3 p.m. Fox sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub.
This week two of NASCAR’s series visit the paper clip shaped track at Martinsville. Fox Sports beings Friday at 8:30 a.m. with qualifying for the Cup cars and Camping World Trucks.
Then at 1:30 p.m. the network has qualifying at Martinsville for the Cup cars followed at 3:30 p.m. by NHRA qualifying from Las Vegas.
Saturday has both TV and Internet programs.
At 11 a.m. www.fanschoice.tv streams an American Flat Track race from Charlotte then at 4 p.m. they stream the season opening event at Evergreen Speedway in Washington state.
Fox, at 11:30 a.m. airs the Camping World Truck race from Martinsville Speedway then at 5 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has the AMA Supercross event from St. Louis.
Sunday begins at 9:30 a.m. when Fox Sports 1 broadcast the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup event from Martinsville. At that same time Fans Choice has the opener from Thompson Speedway in the east.
At 10:30 a.m. CBS Sports has an European race they’ll broadcast. For Air Race fans NBS Sports, at 12:30 p.m. is going to show the third part of its series on the event that took place last year.
Finally at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 airs the NHRA event from Las Vegas.
That’s it for this week but if you’re able do come out and see a race live. There is nothing like seeing the speed, color and enjoying the live action at a race.
