Racing continues to heat up as another national series begins is season. In our area there is a lull in the action but there will be some action in California.
First off I need to correct for something I missed in Monday’s article.
Our area now has a sanctioning body for motocross, Battle Born MX. I thought they had a website but I was wrong. They have a Face Book page as the website is being developed and when it is up I’ll be sure to include it.
Now on to the Racing Preview. This weekend there will be no racing in our area but there is in California as well as a practice session on another track over the hill.
While E Street MX Park is still under water, Prairie City has practice on Saturday, probably from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. but as of now its unknown if they will be open on Sunday. That information will be on the track’s hotline, 1-775-265-7223, sometime Saturday.
The final round of the Bishop Winter Series will be run Saturday, weather permitting. For further information please call their hotline at 1-760-920-3865 or 1-760-920-1668.
Over on TV and Internet there are a host of races shown as a major series gets its season going while another has its second event this year.
I also need to note the times in this report are Pacific Standard Time as this site is based in the western United States and we’re about 8 hours behind GMT.
Thursday begins at 9 a.m. on Fox Sports 1 as the network has various NASCAR practice sessions from the Daytona International Speedway.
Then at 4 p.m. they air the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Can-Am Duels. While the front row was set Sunday, this pair of races sets the rest of the field for this weekend’s Daytona 500.
MAVTV will also be busy starting at 11 a.m. with various programs starting with a Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League event, Dirty 30, Super Cup Stock Car Series and part two of the Geneva Supercross.
All the programming on MAVTV are still in the “Rerun Zone.”
Over on www.fanschoice.tv the rained out World Series of Asphalt event originally slated for Monday will be broadcast starting at 4:30 p.m.
On Friday, at 4:30 p.m. Fox Sports 1 broadcasts the Camping World Truck Series race from Daytona. At that same time Fanschoice.tv has another World Series of Asphalt race again from New Symrna Speedway.
The final practice for the Daytona 500 starts Saturday at 9:30 a.m. followed at 12:30 p.m. with the Xfinity race on Fox Sports 1. Then at 4:30 p.m. Fanschoice.tv will show another race from New Smyrna Speedway.
Finally at 4 p.m. Fox Sports 1 will air the final Supercross race from the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. That stadium is being replaced by a newer facility.
For NASCAR fans Sunday is the big day as after the preliminaries finish FOX, starting at 11 a.m., will show the Daytona 500. This year the Great American Race is divided into three segments, two 60-lap ones followed by an 80-lap race to the finish.
It’s a new format for NASCAR so we’ll see how it goes.
At 3 p.m. Fox Sports will broadcast the NHRA Mellow Yellow Drag Racing event from Phoenix.
Over on MAVTV, starting at 1 p.m. they will show the Lucas Oil Drag Boats then a Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League event followed by a Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series event.
That it’s for this weekend as racing as series begin their seasons. Next week racing again returns to our region and in a few weeks there will be even more.
