RACING PREVIEW: OCT. 6 TO 9

Even in October there is still more racing to see.

Racing Preview this week is busy for our area but across the country and overseas series are winding down as drivers and teams chase their respective championships.

In our region there are three two-day shows.

Closest to Reno and Sparks is the next round of the 775 Fall MX Classic series held at the Fernley Lion’s Motocross Track or the Sand Box as it’s known.

Saturday has practice sessions from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. then on Saturday there is a short practice starting at 8 a.m. and at 9 a.m. the first gate drops to begin the day’s races.

The desert racers in the MRANN series will also be in action out at Nightingale, east of Fernley off I-80.

On Saturday the Pee Wee racers start the action at 9:30 a.m. followed at 10:45 a.m. by the Mini Bikes, Women/Vintage and Bomber bikes. This time there will be no team races.

The Big Bikes get their turn Sunday on the long, 45-mile circuit with a 10 a.m. starting time. To be classified as a finisher a rider must complete one lap.

What will probably be the final oval track race for our area happens outside of Fallon as the track presents the “Rumble @ Rattlesnake.”

Saturday’s action begins at 3 p.m. with heats and dashes for all the car classes. Sunday’s racing, which begins at noon, will have any B Mains as well as the feature races for each class and there could be up to eight divisions.

Moving over to TV land there is an action packed weekend ahead.

While Daytona might be the spiritual home of NASCAR it would seem that Charlotte, North Carolina is its real home and the top two series are there this weekend.

Of course this also depends on what that Hurricane heading up the east coast will be doing.

Things get going at 10:30 a.m. as NBC Sports airs practice and qualifying for the Sprint Cup cars from Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Friday begins on NBC Sports with practice and qualifying for the Xfinity series that starts its race at 5 p.m.

Then on Saturday NASCAR’s Sprint Cup race begins at 4 p.m. on NBC. Then at 9 p.m. NBC Sports will broadcast the Formula One Grand Prix of Japan.

Over on the Internet www.fanschoice.tv will air races from the European NASCAR series starting at 4:30 a.m. Then 12 hours later at 4:30 p.m. the network will stream the NWAAS Championship Night from Magic Valley Speedway.

Sunday starts at 12:30 a.m. as Fox Sports 1 has the Formula E race from Hong Kong. Then at 2:30 a.m. the NWES Euro Finals will be streamed on fanschoice.tv.

Starting at noon NBC airs a Global Rallycross event from Los Angeles.

Not to be left out CBS Sports also has a line up for Sunday beginning at 10 a.m. with the SMX Supermotocross event followed at 1 p.m. by the Mystik Terracross Series. Then at 2 p.m. there is a Stadium Super Truck race and things wind down at 3 p.m when NBC Sports has the Motorsports Hour.

I would encourage all you fans, especially those the like oval track events, to get out and see one live. There is nothing that compares by actually being there and soaking up the color, speed and excitement of a race.
