While racing is a bit slim on the national scene, locally there is plenty including a major event.

Racing Preview for this week lists a major event in our area plus other regional races. This weekend the TV schedule is reduced while there are other events being streamed on the Internet.

If you’re still buzzing over Hot August Nights well fear not there is something to see Friday evening. Summit Racing, on East Glendale in Sparks, starting at 5:30 p.m. is having another cruise nights.

For you oval track fans, Lovelock Speedway will host another of its points races Friday with a 7:00 p.m. starting time.

The biggest event of the weekend is the Lucas Oil Off Road Series at the Wild West Motorsports Park for Saturday and Sunday. The facility is located north of I-80 and east of Sparks off the Mustang Exit on I-80.

While opening ceremonies are at 2 p.m. each day the best advice is to get there early. That gives plenty of time to check out the pits and vendor areas before fans settle in for an afternoon of high speed, action packed racing.

Two oval tracks will be in action on Saturday.

Fernley 95A Speedway, starting at 6 p.m. hosts another of its points races. On that same evening, starting at 7 p.m. Hawthorne Speedway has a $1,250 to win Hobby Stock race slated as well as UTV races.

Then on Sunday, starting at 7 p.m., American Valley Speedway in Quincy, California hosts its annual Fair Races. Those that arrive early can enjoy this small county fair as well as the races.

For the two-wheel set Livfast Exit 28 Motocross track will once again have practice sessions running from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. North of Susanville the Alturas Motocross Park will host practice sessions Saturday then have MX racing on Sunday.

With Formula 1 on its enforced summer vacation as well as Indy Cars and NASCAR’s Sprint Cup being off this weekend the TV fare is a bit slim. But there are still things to be watched, many on a delayed basis.

On Thursday at Noon MAVTV airs the 20th annual Budweiser Oval Nationals, then at 5 p.m. shows racing from Madera. At 7 p.m. CBS Sports has a British Touring Car race to show.

This week NASCAR’s Xfinity series is at the Mid-Ohio road course. On Friday at 3 p.m. the USA network will have qualifying.

Saturday begins at 10 a.m. when MAVTV broadcast the first motos from the Pro Motocross Series. Remember those races can be viewed after the weekend on www.promotocross.com.

Then at noon NASCAR’s Xfinity event from Mid-Ohio will be broadcast on the USA Network. For those unable to either watch or record the race it can be seen next week on www.youtube.com, once there go to the NASCAR channel.

Over on the internet, www.fanschoice.tv, will host several races from short tracks around the country. Saturday’s action starts at noon and includes racing from Lake County Speedway, Berlin Raceway, Salina High Banks Speedway and Magic Valley.

This Sunday, starting at 8:30 a.m. fanschoice.tv will air the AMA Pro Flat Track from Peoria Race Park.

Later that day CBS Sports broadcasts two Australian V8 Supercar races starting at 2 p.m. followed at 4 p.m. by Lucas Oil Off road Series.
