Motosport preview for this week has a mix of several events, both locally and nationally. There is something for just about every type of motorsports and automotive fan.
Biggest news is our area is the annual Hot August Nights. All over Reno and Sparks there are show n’ shines, poodle skirts, old time rock and roll as well as cruises through parking lots and down Virginia Street as well as Victorian in Sparks.
There are also three oval track races this weekend as well.
North in Susanville, California the Diamond Mountain Speedway will be racing then on Saturday, down in Quincy the American Valley Speedway hosts the final night of the NAPA series. And both tracks have a 7 p.m. starting time.
East of us Rattlesnake Raceway, just east of downtown Fallon has another of its races. Headlining the racing card will be the Nevada Pro Stock Association’s latest race. Not only will they and the regular car classes be racing but Mad Metal is bringing its Mud Drags back to the track.
In the two-wheeled world Livfast Exit 28, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. hosts practice session on Saturday and Sunday. Over the hill in Marysville the Riverfront track hosts motocross races Saturday eveing.
Further east in Tennessee four area riders are competing in the Amateur Nationals at Loretta Lynn’s ranch. They are T.J. Taylor, in the 250 Limited and 250 Jr. Limited, Parker Ross in 65cc 7-11 and 65cc 10-11 Limited, Bart Vandamme in 65cc and Chad Heisman racing in the 450 B Limited class.
You can watch these young people race live at www.racertv.com. Times are eastern on the poster so be sure to subtract three hours from those listed. For the results of each class go to www.mxsports.com.
Over in TV land the big news is in NASCAR. Seems Dale Earnhardt still isn’t ready to race so Jeff Gordon will replace him at Wakins Glen and Bristol.
On Thursday, starting at 10 a.m. there will be practice for the NASCAR Xfinity and Sprint Cup series from Watkins Glen and they can be followed live on www.nascar.com.
Then on Friday, starting at 8 a.m. NBC Sports will have practice and Xfinity qualifying.
Saturday begins at 9 a.m. on CNBC with Sprint Cup qualifying followed at 11 a.m. with the Xfinity race at Wakins Glen.
Over on the Internet, www.fanschoice.tv will have a series of races starting at noon from Road American as well as some short tracks.
NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Race at Watkins Glen starts at 9 a.m. Sunday and will be on CNBC. Then at 1 p.m. Fox Sports 1 airs the IMSA Weather Tech Sports Car race from Road America.
Fox gets into the mix at 1 p.m. with the NHRA drag races from Seattle, which completes this year’s western swing.
Over in CBS Sports, starting at 1 p.m. they’ll have the Pirelli World Challenge followed at 3 p.m. with a V-8 Supercar race from Queensland. Then at 4:30 p.m. there is the Mobil 1 “The Grid,” show followed at 5 p.m. with a Lucas Oil Off-Road series event.
That’s it for this week. As I’ve said before try and get out to see a race live. Help support our local racers and tracks. There is nothing like being at a race live to really experience the color, speed and excitement of racing.
