LIVFAST Exit 28 was the scene of hard riding and racing motocross style.
EXIT 28 (OCT.25)- The third round of this fall’s Motocross series was a day of hard, racing with some very close finishes as well as sweeps.
After winning second 125/250F pro/intermediate moto Nathan Tiearney came to a stop turned and said to Tony Giusti and Gage Lemm, “I could hear you guys behind me the whole time. My hat’s off to these guys, they were riding good.”
Then he said about his race, “The race was good for me, I got a good start, held my line a little more so none of these young punks could hop in front me but I had a good day, had fun. Good job to (Jesse) Gore, if he had been on a 450 there would have been a lot more competition today.”
When the moto began Tiearney took off as the pack gave chase. Behind him intermediates Gage Lemm was holding down second while Tony Giusti was giving chase.
Lap after lap their battle went on as Giusti would close the gap then Lemm opened it up a bit. While they weren’t that far away from him, Tiearney basically unchallenged as long as he stayed on the gas.
Finally, after the white flag came out Giusti managed to take the lead. From there it was a nose-to-tail charge to the checkered.
After pulling off the track Giusti said, “We’re going down the straightaway, we’re side-by-side and he kind of cut off, I took his line away and I had it wide nopen to get there. It was a drag race, I was kind of pacing a couple of laps, we both were then on the last lap we kind of sprinted; it was fun.”
Then Lemm said, “It was tough, I don’t really race much so I got really tired and he got me on the last lap. It was probably one of the funnist races I’ve ever raced.”
Then he thanked his parents, family for their support.
Their first 125/250 Pro and Intermediate moto had the same result. After winning that moto Tiearney said, “Jesse Gore got a bad start or something but I got a better start and more lines are starting to develop.
Runner up Giusti said, “I started around third or four, made quick passes but he (Tiearney) was too much so I hung out behind him.”
Then he thanked his parents, Moto Source, Layne Kolbet and all the sponsors that help him.
During the intermission Giusti beat out Tiearney in the Whip Contest.
When the first 250/450 pro/intermediate moto began Tiearney, Gore and Giusti took off and ran in that formation until the end.
After taking winning that moto Tiearney was rubbing one arm and said, “A little arm pump, haven’t rode for a while, just working and haven’t been practicing as much as I should be. Came out here today, having fun and see how it goes.”
Then he complimented the track’s new layout and felt it was a good design.
In the second 250/450 pro/intermediate moto Tiearney and Giusti took off only to have Gore slip past both in the first turn that leads starters onto the course.
It only took Tiearney only a short while before he was back on point and headed for his second sweep of the day. Once again Gore was second with Giusti a close third.
“Seemed like I got a good jump, me and Giusti were out front then Gore, he snuck right underneath us,” Tiearney said. “Gave me a little run but I knew I had to get by him as I didn’t want second for that moto. Got the overall, windy and track’s good and I’m having a ball.”
The closest race of the day was in the 18 Plus division of the second Schoolboy moto.
After the gate dropped, Bryson Olson was on point with Gage Lemm right behind him. And they left the pack in their dust.
They were either nose-to-tail or side-by-side until the final lap. Then Lemm finally managed to take the lead, which earned him a sweep of both motos.
After winning Lemm said, “He made a mistake back there in the back and I just happened to go around him. So it turned out to be good,” Lemm said after reaching the checkered flag first.
Then Olson said, “I didn’t know it was the last lap, dang it. I knew he was right behind me, just think I ran out of breath right there at the end. It was a good race, good job.”
Not to be outdone the women put on two hard fought races when their motos were on the track.
Joining them were two Supermini riders and when the first moto began Dylan Thorwaldson took off and left everyone in his dust.
Behind him Sedanna Losey was on a charge and on point for the women. But behind her Ashleigh Trapanese began to get things rolling and soon took over the lead on her way to winning that race.
At the finish Trapanese was followed across the line by Losey and Shami Potratz.
“That was a fun race and Sedanna puts up a good fight,” Trapanese said. “I need to thank Power Com, Testa Motorsports, my mother, father, grandparents and brother.”
When the gate dropped for the second moto Losey took off and was being chased by her nephew Thorwaldson. Behind him her sister Potratz and Trapanese were disputing third place.
It took a couple of laps but finally Thorwaldson got passed his aunt and left the women behind him as he headed for a sweep in the Supermini division. He also swept the 85cc Open motos.
Up front both Potratz and Trapanese were closing in on leader Losey. Finally Trapanese got past both sisters and started to gap them.
In the end Trapanese made a sweep of her races while Potratz was able to take second and Losey wound up third.
After catching her breath Trapanese said, “Sedanna and Shami are really good riders.”
At the top of the age bracket Lonnie Madsen was the 52+ Junior victor while Mike Torres won the intermediate division and Scott Chick was the expert winner. Moving down a step Layne Kolbet was the 45+ expert winner while Bob Woebbeking won the junior divison.
At the bottom end of the age ladder are the Pee Wee racers. These youngsters are the next generation of motocross racers.
The youngest was Piper Clark, who races in the 4- to 6-year old division.
Next are the 7 & older group that was dominated by Sam McCord, a youngster that won the 50cc Open and is also racing in the 65cc divisions. He was followed by Tanner Ines, who scored two second place finishes.
After his races 8-year-old Ines said, “The track was good and I need to thank my parents, Uncle Ken and Reno KTM.”
The 65cc winners were Declan Kahabka and Owen Bills.
The 85cc Beginner motos had two riders swapping victories with Nakana Domingo winning the first while Greag Bradshaw won the second and earned the day’s overall victory.
After taking the checkered flag Bradshaw said, “It was kind of hard and he (Domingo) pushed me to the limit and the track was rough.”
Then he thanked his sister, parents and Aaron Siminoe for their support.
In the heartbreak category Ryan Eager had the lead during the second 25+ Open only to go down with a half a lap to go and was unable to finish. Heading for a certain second place Jeff Simas took the gift and won, which gave him a sweep for the day.
While several riders went down most were able to get back up and continue. The one exception was one rider that went down on the first lap and had to be helped to the medics.
His condition was unknown at this posting.
Other than that it was a good day for racing, not too hot or cool and all the riders seemed to like the new configuration for the track.
Next up will be the final race of the series at Winnemucca on November 8.
OTHER RACING NEWS
- Last week at Talladega’s Sprint Cup race a dozen drivers were all trying to make the cut and be ranked in the final eight for the championship chase.
After the dust settled Kyle Busch just made it moving up from ninth to eighth while older brother Kurt wound up fourth. So now there are two Nevada natives in contention for the title.
There are three more elimination races left until the field is cut to four and those go into the season ending race where one of them will emerge as the 2015 Sprint Cup champion.
