RACING & CAR MEET PREVIEW: FEB. 27 TO MAR. 2

RENO, NV (Feb. 26) — Weather is moderating, more car meets are on the way and soon racing will return to our region. In addition the National and International scene is heating up.

CAR MEETS:

I think many agree with the Ground Hog.

• The Ground Hog sums up the feelings of many at this time of the year.

As usual the Iron Mafia gets the week rolling with there Thursday morning meet.

• Thursday begins at 8 a.m. when the Iron Mafia has its usual morning meet. Location is Kim’s Donut and Tea House at 1328 U.S. 395 North in Gardnerville.

The year’s first Reno Bimmer Bash is this Saturday.

• Saturday, at 5 p.m., is the year’s first Reno Bimmer Bash. Location is 2803 Northtowne Lane by Ross Dress for Less.

• Two groups start the month off with meets starting at 10 a.m. Sunday morning.

Reno Cars & Coffee has their first meet of the month on Sunday.

RACING (4-Wheel):

Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico will host the Silver Cup this weekend.

• If one is a fan of Sprint Car racing the Silver Dollar Speedway over in Chico, California has a two-day show with Winged Sprint Cars. Friday’s show begins at 5 p.m. while it’s a 4 p.m. start for Saturday’s show.

If you are in Las Vegas this weekend here’s a race you might want to attend.

• For those that might be in Las Vegas this weekend the Bull Ring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway has a Saturday show with several classes including the Super Model Late Models. For further information please go to www.carstourwest.com.

RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):

Going to be a busy weekend for two of REP Racing’s tracks.

• REP Racing MX is busy again this weekend although Riverbend MX is closed. Prairie City MX has an OTHG race both days.

The Sierra OTHG is racing at Prairie City this weekend.
  • Saturday at Prairie City MX is for practice from 9 until 2 but only for OTHG members and their immediate families. Sunday’s practice begins at 8 a.m. with racing to follow.
The Sandbox MX in Fernley has open practice on Sunday.
  • The Sandbox MX in Fernley has open practice from 10 until 3 p.m. Sunday. Good time to get some laps in before the upcoming BBMX event there.
E Street MX Park has practice Saturday and Sunday.

• E Street MX Park has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Both the front and back tracks will be available.

MMX Racing has practice this weekend.

• MMX Racing has its usual weekend schedule. Saturday, from 9 until 2 p.m. the Main, Sand and Kid’s tracks will be used. Sunday’s practice is from 9 until 3 with the Vintage track added to the mix.

Club Moto hosts the next round of this year’s Frigid 8 Winter Series.

• Club Moto will also be busy as that track hosts Round 5 of this year’s P.R.O. Motocross Frigid 8 Winter Series.

RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):

Here is this weekend’s NASCAR Schedule. Remember You Tube has highlights of all the races.

• This weekend NASCAR is at the Circuit of the Americas outside of Austin, Texas. As usual, with the exception of Sunday’s NASCAR Cup race everything else is behind a pay wall.

• Thursday is an empty day so it’s a great time to check other sources. Some are www.mavtv.com, www.floracing.com and of course www.youtube.com. The latter is brings highlights from the Australian Supercar series.

Here is the 2025 Indy Car schedule and where they are broadcast.

• Friday gets going at noon when Fox Sports 1 brings the first Indy Car Practice from St. Petersburg, Florida. This season many of the Indy Car races, including the Indy 500 will be carried live on FOX.

• Saturday starts at 7 a.m. when Fox Sports 2 has the second Indy Car Practice. Then at 11:30 Fox Sports 1 has Indy Car qualifying.

This Saturday the AMA Supercross race starts Bike Week in Daytona.

• Peacock at 10:30 has Race Day Live then at 4 p.m. they broadcast Round 8 of this year’s AMA Supercross series. It’s a special course on the infield of the Daytona Motor Speedway and is usually a wild race.

• Sunday begins early on Saturday midnight as Fox Sports 1 has the MotoGP race from Thailand.

• Fox Sports 2 comes on at 6 a.m. with the Indy Car Warm up then starting at 9 a.m. Fox will broadcast the season opening Indy Car race from St. Petersburg, Florida

• Finally the day ends at 12:30 p.m. when Fox has the NASCAR Cup race from COTA. It’s a high speed road course when drivers are turning left and right.
