RENO, NV (Dec. 18) — Almost to Christmas and New Year’s so racing on TV is truly in the Re-Run Zone. However there are still car and motorcycle events in our region.

• Still no word if the Friday Night Meet in Fernley is still going or has stopped. If it does then the meeting place is the 76th station. So hopefully someone will let me know.
• Saturday begins at MINI of Reno, located at 11505 S. Virginia Street in Reno. It’s Paw & Claus, a free event as well as a pet supply and food driver for the SPCA of Northern Nevada.
- If you are in Fallon the Churchill Fire Department has the Santa Cruz 2024. Santa will ride a fire truck as they cruise through the neighborhoods.
- Back here in Reno starting at 9 p.m. 1,2,Tea’s is having a Holiday Gathering &Toy Drive. Location is at 199 Damonte Ranch Parkway and it’s an indoor event. There will probably be a bunch of cars on display as well.
• Sunday, starting at 10 a.m. Sparks Cars & Coffee will have it’s last meet of the month and year. Location is the Starbucks on Disc Drive at the south end of Spanish Springs.
SPECIAL HAPPENINGS:
• If you ride, know a rider or race motorcycles, two local shops are having specials and celebrations Saturday. Great time to pick up those last minute gifts.
- Reno Motosports is hosting its annual Christmas Party. Location is 964 Terminal Way and times are 10 to 2 p.m. For the kids Moto Santa will be there for pictures.
- Moto Source, located at 3180 Mill Street, from 10 until 3 p.m. is having a Customer Appreciation Sale with some great savings. There will be free cookies, hot coca as well as coffee.
RACING (4-WHEEL):
• It is less than two weeks away until the High Desert Hustle 2025 invades the Reno/Sparks Livestock Events Center. Four days of while Outlaw Kart racing.
- The action on New Year’s Eve not only has racing but ends with a free concert. The next two days things wind up to January 2 when the main events happen.
RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):
• With a storm hitting Saturday the Sandbox MX at Fernley will have practice from 10 until 3 Sunday. One needs to register first at www.repracingmx.com.
- Nothing had been posted when this article was posted Wednesday night. Best bet is to check Friday or Saturday to see if Prairie City or Riverfront MX will have practice sessions.
- The same goes for MMX Racing as they are probably watching to see how much rain the track receives.
- E Street MX Park does have practice Friday from 9 until 2 p.m. but they are watching the weather. Should have an update either late Friday or Saturday.
RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):
• To the east in Tulsa, Oklahoma they have two major events.
- Starting on December 31 and going until January 4th it’s the Tulsa Shootout. It’s a huge Micro Sprint Car event.
- Right after that the Chili Bowl starts with practice on January 12 followed four days of qualifying races for midgets. Then on January the mains determine which drivers earn the Golden Driller trophies.
• Further east, in Saudi Arabia, the Dakar Rally kicks off on January 3rd and ends on the 18th after roaring through many areas of that country. It’s probably the only off-road race where competitors, in some areas, have to keep an eye out for herds of camels.
That’s it for this weekend. Want to wish all our readers a very Merry Christmas or Happy Hanukkah, which actually started December 14th.
Be safe out there everyone and see you next week.
