RENO, NV (Dec. 11) — Well the Holiday Season is here and for most, with few exceptions, racing is in the annual Re-Run Zone. However there are car meets, some holiday cruises and even a huge event coming at year’s end.
NOTICE: I’d also like to note the weather might be effecting some of the events listed her.
CAR MEETS:
• Once again the Iron Mafia gets the weekend rolling starting at 8 a.m. Thursday morning. Location is Kim’s Donut and Tea House at 1328 U.S. 395 North in Gardnerville.
• There may or may not be a Friday Night Meet in Fernley. If there is it would probably start at 6 p.m. by the 76th Station. Sure would appreciate it if someone would let me know if these are continuing through the winter.
• The Nevada Jeep Club has a busy Saturday starting at 2 pm. with their annual Christmas Party and Gift Exchange. The location is El Charro Avita located at 4389 South Carson Street.
- Then at 5:30 the Nevada Jeep Club starts from El Charro Avita for their 4th Annual Christmas Parade of Lights with Santa. They’ll cruise through downtown Carson City.
• Sunday is a busy day starting at 10 a.m. when Reno Cars & Coffee has its 9th Annual Toy Run. This is by the Human Bean Coffee Stand at 32380 Kietzke Lane.
- Then at 11:30 they cruise up to the Northtowne Winco Parking lot. There they join the Toys for Kids hosted by the Old Slammers Car of Reno. That event starts at 11.
- Please bring an unwrapped toy. Those will be collected at the Old Slammers event and benefit The Children’s Cabinet.
- The Genoa Country Store is closing and on Sunday, starting at 1 p.m. Northern Nevada Muscle is hosting a cruise to the store. Assembly point is the Toys for Kids in the Northtowne Winco Parking Lot.
• Over at where South McCarren and Longley Lane meet Reno Jeeps & Coffee meets starting at 10 a.m. Saturday.
RACING (4-Wheel):
• For you drifters out there the Reno Fernley Raceway, located on Alt. 95 south of downtown, is hosting “Drift Hard,” Saturday. It’s also part of the Reno Toy Run.
- Gates open at 8 a.m. when they have registration then the track goes hot at 9:30. There will be three courses to choose from and the event goes until dark or everyone runs out of tires. Time to get the last drifting event of the year.
PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):
• Due to the incoming storms REP Racing MX won’t open Riverfront MX or Prairie City MX for practice this weekend. Still it’s a good idea to check with them.
- The Fernley Sandbox MX from 10 until 3 p.m. Sunday is open for practice. One nice thing about there is the gas prices are lower than in Reno or Sparks.
• MMX Racing has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday on the Main, Sand and Kid’s tracks. Then if the weather cooperates practice will be from 9 until 3 p.m. with an OSMX Ride Day on the Vintage track.
• When this article was posted E Street MX Park had not indicated if they would have practice. Usually it’s from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday so best bet is to check their Face Book page before heading out.
RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):
• This weekend is pretty slim but on Thursday www.mavtv.com has part 2 of the Supercars from Gold Coast. This Australian series features some wild racing.
• This weekend is pretty empty but since we’re in the Re-Run zone for the next few weeks there are sites that might have some live racing or at least re-runs that can be watched.
- Some of those sites are www.speedsport.tv, www.dirtvision.com, www.floracing.com, www.racerx.com and www.youtube.com. Also mavtv sometimes has winter races as well.

• The High Desert Hustle, a major Outlaw Kart event is returning to the Reno/Sparks Livestock Events Center. This year the event runs from December 30 to January 2, 2025. Should be a wild event and the racing starts in the afternoon. I’ll post the schedule next week.
• Davey’s American Racing is found on Face Book. His focus is on western oval tracks as well as national series.
