ARENACROSS VISITS RENO LEC

RENO, NV (Nov. 15) — The Reno/Sparks Livestock Events Center was busy place this weekend. That’s where the 2024/2025 AMA Arenacross season began. Friday and Saturday were for the Pros while Sunday the amateurs had their turn on a modified track.

• Day two of the Arenacross was Saturday with the same schedule as Friday.

Ashton Etzen won Saturday’s Micro Open.

After the two LCQ races for the pros, it was time for the Micro Open Limited race with the 4 to 8-year-old riders. When the gate dropped Ashton Etzen took off with Tallan Smith giving chase. They finished in that order.

Justin Bogle, riding an eBIke, won Saturday’s Clash for Cash.

Next up was the Clash for Cash, where gas powered and eBikes face off. When the gate dropped Justin Bogle led the charge followed by two Honda riders; Ryan Beece and Vince Friese.

Unlike Friday this time the winner was Bogle on an eBike. Runner up was Breece followed by Friese and the next eBike rider Joshua Hill was fourth.

Doc Smith won th B Main on Saturday.

The B Main had 10 starters but Doc Smith and Rider Fisher were determined to make the main. Both left the others in their wake and finished one-two with Sparks rider Casey Carmichael in third.

Then it was time for the AX 85cc 9 to 15 years-old racers to shine. On the start Carson City racer Drew Marson was on point with Kaden Sedgwick giving chase,

Drew Marson on his way to winning Saturday’s 85cc main. He was the only Nevada rider to win a main and he also won on Friday.

As the race went on Marson left everyone in his wake and became the only Nevada rider to score main event victories on Friday and Saturday night. The runner up was Sparks rider Ryan Pacella followed by Richie Gurley and fourth place Kaden Sedgwick.

When the gate dropped for the first AXPro main Kyle Bitterman as on point followed by Ryan Breece, Austin Politelli and Michael Hicks.

Ryan Breece won the first AXPro main on Saturday.

Eventually Breece was able to take over first and claim the victory. Behind him Bitterman was up second ahead of Hicks and Politelli.

Asked about the race Breece said, “It was kind of follow-the-leader on this track right now so just kind of tried to make a good move. We were just kind of waiting and waiting so that was a good thing for me.

“The pass was over half way and once we did that I could get a manageable lead and start clicking some laps. This is where I belong, it’s taking a long time to get up here and I got a good solid team behind me.”

Then he thanked MCR Honda and all the guys helping him.

After that it was time for the eBike or XPro as the class is called to take to the track. On the start Justin Bogle was on point with Michael Hicks giving chase

Friday’s dominate rider Joshua Hill fell victim to problems and ended up sixth.

Justin Bogle on his way to winning the XPro main, which is for the eBikes.

Up front Bogle won the race with Hicks second. Behind them was third place Kelana Humphrey and fourth place Joshua Varize.

After the race Bogle said, “I got a good start and have been struggling all weekend. Only time I’ve gotten in the Clash for Clash, luckily for me. Solid night for me, won the Clash for Cash and the main. First time I’ve won in a long time so we’ll take it and I’m excited.

Asked about racing an eBike he said, “It’s a lot different, it’s got its pros and cons but I’ve been on it for about a year now, testing it, it’s getting better.”

Then he thanked Start Future and others.

Vince Friese won the second AXPro main on Saturday.

The final event of the Pro races was the second AXPro main. On the gate drop Vince Friese was on point followed by Austin Politelly, Ryan Breece and Michael Hicks.

As Friese pulled away Politelli took over second while Kyle Peters moved up to third. Breece slipped back to fourth. They finished in that order.

After the race Friese said, “It was frustrating, they flattened the track out and made it an amateur track. It took some getting used to. We got a pretty beefy track set up that we kind of had to change on the fly.

“I said it before on Friday night that there was going to be some learning curves and that first main event was one of them. We had 10 minutes, made the adjustments to make the bike better for that second one. A bummer in that first one that I wasn’t able to get through more guys but it is what it is.”

Then he thanked Smart Top and Moto Concepts Honda Team.

Finally it was Trophy time and those are awarded based on a rider’s combined finishes in the two mains. Just like in Motocross and Supercross.

Earning the third overall trophy was Austin Politelli and the second place trophy went to by Vince Friese. By virtue of his first and fourth place finishes in the mains Ryan Breece won the first overall trophy.

Saturday’s overall pro winner was Ryan Breece.

After receiving his overall First Place Trophy Breece  said, “I had a little mistake yesterday that sucked but we’re here to rebound. This will kind of make up for what I did on my mistake and we’ll just keep on running from there. Traffic slowed us down, especially when it’s a one line track like that and it’s not fun.”

Then he thanked NCR Honda for all their hard work.

• Friday began with practice and qualifying. On Friday there was a pit party where spectators could meet their favorite riders, see their bikes and get things autographed.

Once the track was cleared and the opening ceremonies were completed it was time for racing. Heat races started the program and for what may be the first time in an AMA sanctioned event there was a class for Electric or eBikes.

Ashton Etzen on his way to winning Friday’s Micro Mini main.

Once the heats were over it was time for the Micro Open Race for 4 to 8 year-old riders. Ashton Etzen, from Franktown, Colorado reached the checkered flag first.

Following that there were two LCQ races then a special race called “The Clash for Cash.” This is where riders on Electric and Gas bikes faced off.

In the Clash for Cash Vince Friese, on a gas powered bike won.

After the gate dropped Joshua Hill took off followed by the duo of Vince Friese and Austin Politelli. Eventually the gas bikes took the lead and Friese won followed by Politelli and Hill, who was the highest eBike.

After another intermission where several areas of the track were smoothed out it was time for the AX B Main where two locals were in the top three. At the end Owen Bills from Sparks won followed by Dylan Cunha, from Modesto with Minden racer Adam Conway finishing third.

Then it was time for the 85cc AX Main. When the gate dropped Lucca Modica took off followed by Drew Marson and Kalvin Roberts.

Carson City rider Drew Marson on his way to winning Friday’s 85cc main.

At the end of the Whoops section Modica crashed and Marson was in the lead. At the end Marson, from Cason City, was the only Nevada rider to win a main and he was followed by Kaden Sedgwick, Sparks rider Kalvin Roberts and fourth place Caleb Tetangco.

Now the stage was set for the first of two AX Pro motos. When the gate dropped Kyle Peters, the defending series champion, took off and was chased by Vince Friese and Michael Hicks.

Kyle Peters chased by Vince Friese, who won the first AX Pro main.

Lap after lap Friese closed the gap and finally took the point. After that he just extended his lead and won the race.

After a short break history was about to be made as the first AX, or eBike main was about to be run.

Joshua Hill made history Friday night be winning the first eBike main in an AMA sanctioned event.

When the gate dropped Joshua Hill took off followed by Kelana Humphrey and Michael Hicks. The race was all Hill’s as he left everyone in his wake.

At the finish Hill won followed by Michael Hicks and Humphrey.

Now it was time for the money round, the second MX Pro main. On the gate drop Kyle Bitterman took off followed by Friese and Peters.

Vince Friese on his way to winning the second AXPro race on Friday.

Soon Friese took the point followed by Peters and the chase was on. Bitterman slipped to fourth after Michael Hicks took third.

Friday’s overall AXPro winner was Vince Friese.

After the checkered flag flew Friese received the 1st Place trophy and ended a perfect night where he won every event he raced in.

• Now everyone gets a break for the next couple of weeks.  Next stop for the series is Boise, Idaho on December 6 and 7 with Amateur Day being the 8th, which is a Sunday.

Arenacross returns to the LEC starting on Friday, January 31st and runs the entire weekend.
