TRUNK OR TREAT & SPARKS CARS & COFFEE

RENO, NV (Oct. 27) — Been a busy weekend as we celebrated Nevada Day, there were several Trunk or Treat events plus a Cars & Coffee meet on Sunday.

Although the turn out was light, those that showed up at the Off road Warehouse meet enjoyed hamburgers and drinks.

• Friday started when the Off Road Warehouse, on Victorian Avenue in Sparks, scheduled a get together. While the turn out was light there were hamburgers and drinks for those that showed up.

• Saturday there were several Trunk or Treats but sadly the one at 4 Wheel Parts didn’t pan out.

There were many decorated cars at the 12 Tea meet in South Reno.
  • One early one was sponsored by 1,2 Tea in the center where the South Walmart is located. There was a good turn out for this with decorated cars and plenty of kids, of all ages, doing Trick or Treat.
  • Asked about the event Santiago “Byevetz” Rodriguez, who was heading it, said, “We’re hosting an event with EG Noddle House also with 12 Tea Reno and we’re just having a trick or treat for the kids.
  • “Where parents can bring out their kids, have some free candy and have a great time. The car community is really big we just want to show our love and our appreciation for everybody.”
There were quite a few car clubs involved with the 1,2 Tea meet.
  • One of the posters in a trunk had a list of all the clubs involved with this event.
Most of the kids were in costumes and enjoying getting candy.
  • There were decorated cars lined up and inside the trunks were goodies for the kids. Much to third delight.
Two sisters were getting candy from various trunks.
  • Two sisters used law enforcement costumes and, although not show, their father had the family dog with a police sweater on it.
For the fifth year Northern Nevada Classics had a huge Trunk or Treat event at Reno Town Mall. Mall owner Dave Asher is in the checker board shirt.

• Northern Nevada Classics had another large Trunk or Treat show at Reno Town Mall. Owner of the mall, Dave Asher, said it was the fifth year for this.

More treats for the kids.

Not only were cars decorated but the kids were in all kinds of costumes. They had a large selection and even Milne Two had one of its trucks there and they too had treats.

Kevin Degregori and his wife Marnie stand by her decorated VW Beetle.

Asked about this event Kevin Degregori, the head of Northern Nevada Classics, said, “We usually get about 200 to 300 kids and we’re pretty close to that or even more.”

He was glad that Milne Tow was present although he didn’t know if they would be there this time.

“They come out here every year and support the kids. They’re usually pretty strong but they had a death in their family today. But they still came out and supported this although the rest of them are at a memorial. Prayers to that family.”

He added that on November 10th, at the Automobile Museum, there will be a Calendar Meeting. The goal is to have the car clubs arrange their shows so they don’t step on each other. A second meeting is scheduled in the new year.

Marnie Degredori gives some treats to a girl at the Trunk or Treat.

His wife Marnie was also handing out candy to the passing kids and they brought her VW Beetle that was decorated.

There were even more Trunk or Treat meetings going on in our area as well.

Cary Martin by his 1971 GMC Sprint. An older car he’s enhanced.

• Sunday was when Sparks Cars & Coffee had its final meet for this month and it was blessed with good weather. As usual the location was by the Starbucks off Disc Drive in north Sparks.

There is the usual mix of vehicles with some of the older ones given new life by their owners. One of those owners is Cary Martin.

Asked about his car he said, “This is my 1971 GMC Sprint, it’s the same exact car as the El Camino, except for the badging. When I buy parts I always shop for an El Camino.

The 396 motor Martin installed in his GMC Sprint.

“When it bought it the interior was all green, now it’s all black, new interior, new suspension, new brakes. Put a cover on the back. Up here in the front we put in a blue print 396 motor with a TKX 5-speed, I’ve got a 12-bolt posi with 373 gears, air conditioning and a few other do dads here and there.”

Martin added he’s enhanced the car except the paint. Even with a new hood it’s the same color as when he bought it two years ago.

He also mentioned starting a Face Book page.

“It’s called Reno, Hot Rods, Rat Rods, Muscle Cars and Classics,” he said. “I started it after living here for many years and coming to a lot of Reno Cars & Coffee and Sparks Cars & Coffee.

“I love them but don’t have a new car, a Corvette, or an Import and I’m focused primarily on the muscle cars. So I wanted to start at Face Book page that addressed that group. People can to there and post what they are more interested in.”

There was an immaculate Plymouth Duster at the meet.

Not far away where Martin’s car was parked was an immaculate Plymouth Duster. Kind of keeping with the muscle car theme.

A short power row at the meet.

As usual there was power row of Corvettes as well a selection of different years. In addition there were various imports

One of the exotics was American. Here is a Ford GT40, the street version based off the LeMans winning GT 40.

One exotic at the meet wasn’t foreign but was an American car. Someone brought a Ford GT40, the street version of the type that won the Le Mans 24 Hour race.

Despite the forecast of bad weather, which didn’t happen, the turnout was pretty good. Around 11 several left on a cruise to Sierraville where a popular restaurant was closing for good,

Next week, on the Sunday we switch back to regular time, Reno Cars & Coffee as well as Reno Jeeps and Coffee will meet. Could be interesting to see who arrives early or maybe a bit late.
