QUINCY, CA (Oct. 13) — A gray misty evening set the stage for the season ending event at Quincy Speedway. The program was held up due to a passing light rains. After wheel packing there were hot laps and heat races.
Starting the racing program were the IMCA Stock Cars. When the green waved Chris Lewis took off while Craig Nieman and Jeff Olschowka were chasing.
Up front Lewis slowly extended his lead while behind him there was a nose-to-tail duel for second between Nieman and Olschowka. Their battle went right down to the checkered flag where Lewis won followed by Nieman and Olschowka.
Asked about the race Lewis said, “It was a hot rod for sure, just got out front and stayed smooth.
Then the thanked his wife, their kids, CD Industrial, Cedar Creek and his father, who worked on the car until 2 that afternoon.
Next were the Mini Stocks, sadly there were only two of them In the heat race Lilly Montgomery had mechanical issues so Maddy Lewis.
The feature was a different story as Montgomery took off when the green waved and stormed to victory. After that she climbed on top of her car and tossed treats into the crowd.
Asked about the heat race she said, “We’re not going to talk about that. It was very frustrating. Want to thank mostly my mom and dad, God, NAPA, Relay Station, Les Schwab Tires and all my fans.”
This is probably her last race for a while as she’s joining the Army and in January will be off for basic training.
When the IMCA Northern Sport Mod feature began Kenny Schmit was on point. Then Phil Moreno used an inside pass in Turn 3 to take the lead.
After that Moreno and second place Trent Golden started to pull away from the pack. Things slowed due a caution for debris.
Once racing resumed Moreno took off and stormed to the victory. Trent Golden was the runner up with Jason Emmot finishing third.
After the race Moreno said, “Want to thank my wife for letting me come tonight. She wanted to go to a party but she knows racing is in my blood and we’ll party next week.
“This is my kind of track, I love it as it was greasy and smooth. Would like to thank who prepped the track, they did a nice job and the rain helped a bit. Better than bone dry.”
When the IMCA Modified feature Tyler Jones and Ryan McDaniel were close. An early spin kind of scrambled things but on the restart Alec Childs was on point with McDaniel giving chase.
McDaniel used an inside move exiting turn 4 to take the point. Behind him Chris Nieman moved into second dropping Childs to fourth.
There was one more caution that slowed things but when the green waved again McDaniel took off followed by Nieman and Childs; they finished in that order.
After the race McDaniel said, “It was raining for 10-laps, I couldn’t even see. Had to race with my visor half open because it was fogging up. The track was bolted down, hammer down, a little bit slimly in sports so you had to find a good spot.”
Then he thanked Domco Plumbing, Jo Car Racing, Matt Farham Farms.
The honor of ending the 2024 season when to the Street Stock Class. On the green Greg McCully led briefly until Grayson Olschowka used an outside move to take the point.
At first Tom Haxall was a close second but soon Joe Conroy took over second and the chase was on.
That’s when mother nature took over as it started to rain. This made the track slick so the race was ended early with Olschowka, who is still in his pre-teen years, winning followed by Conroy and Haxall.
After winning Olschowka climbed on top of his car and saluted the fans then waved the checkered flag.
Asked about the race he said, “I got a really good start at the beginning, then it started to getting slicker and slicker. The rain was coming down and my visor was getting pretty blurry from the rain but I pushed and got the win.”
Then he thanked his family members, his grandma and grandpa, and everyone that helped him.
Now the season is over and everyone can take the holidays off until its time to start preparing for next season.
• Sparks Cars & Coffee met Sunday morning by the Starbucks off Disc Drive in Sparks.
One thing about these groups is when a person takes an older car and gives it a new life. This Chevy Nova is a good example of a good restoration.
The work didn’t stop with the body but included a new motor in this car.
These meets also have cars from different eras or different models of the same car. Shown here is a roadster parked in a row that includes several Corvettes from different years.
Attending one of these meets a parson gets to meet some great people as well as seeing some wonderful cars and trucks. So if the weather cooperates try and visit one of these meets.

• The Nevada Car Coalition had to reschedule its meeting at the National Auto Museum. It’s now scheduled for this next Sunday, October 20.
All car clubs are asked to attend as the purpose is to revive the Summer Salute, a benefit for veterans. It will happen on May 24, 2025 and they hope to get more support for this event.
• When this was posted Trucks & Tacos of Northern Nevada had not picked a place for their next meeting. I would suggest checking their Face Book page on Monday.
• Davey’s American Racing is found on Face Book. His focus is on western oval tracks as well as national series.
He recently started his broadcasts so check Face Book around 6 p.m. Wednesday. He also posts during the week.
