RATTLESNAKE RACEWAY HOSTS DIRT TRACK CHAMPIONSHIPS

FALLON, NV (Oct. 5) — For the 38th time Rattlesnake Raceway ended its season with the Dirt Track Championships. While it is a two-day affair there is a big difference.

A driver’s combined finishes are used to determine how they placed in the DTC. The driver that has the best record gets the trophy, is named their class Dirt Track Champion and has a year’s worth of bragging rights.

Shawn Natenstedt owned the Street Stock main as he scored his second win in two nights.

First up were the Street Stocks and Friday’s winner Shawn Natenstedt led the charge and soon worked a straight away lead over the other. Behind him there was a four-way duel for second.

In the end Natenstedt won followed by Randy Boyd, Joe Conroy with Brandon Rosencrantz finishing fourth.

Then if was time for the Dwarf cars to take to the track. On the green Mike Reeder took off with Joe Frock giving chase.

Dwarf Car winner Joe Frock is about to pass then leader Mike Reeder.

A caution bunched the cars but on the green the Reeder-Frock show continued. After closing the gap, Frock finally used an inside pass coming out of Turn 2 to take the lead.

There was one more caution but in the end Frock scored the victory followed by Reeder, Dan Geil and Chris Christiano.

Now it was time for the IMCA Northern SportMods. When the green waved 15 off them headed into Turn 1 Kenny Schmit, and Connor Metz leading the charge.

Soon Schmit was on point until John Schilling took the lead. Then everything slowed for debris in Turn 2 while Dan Hatfield’s car stopped and he was pushed into the pits.

Jimmy Ford celebrates winning the IMCA Northern Sport Mod feature.

Up front Jimmy Ford finally took the lead and, after slicing his way through lap traffic scored the victory. Schilling was the runner up followed by Kenny Schmit and Richard Vander Ploeg.

First on point when the Mini Stock main began is Mike Miller. He soon was replaced when Cooper Lee, using the outside line swept past him.

There were four cautions and the last one came after a car lost its right front wheel going through Turn 2. After the car was towed to the pits and the track checked for debris the green waved again.

Mini Stock winner (81) Cooper Lee was chased by runner up Kent Knisley.

Up front Lee roared off to take the win with Kent Knisley not far behind in second. Behind them Stephen Crook was third while Nehamian Souza finished fourth.

Only a half dozen IMCA Stock Cars took the green to start their main Zach Cail was on point with Chris Lewis and Jeff Olschowka giving chase. Eventually Lewis took the lead and began to pull away..

After a caution for debris the green waved again but this time Cail spun causing another caution. He made a charge and soon was involved in a three-way duel for second.

On a restart IMCA Stock Car winner Chris Lewis (22L) leads runner up Zach Cail (6) and Jeff Olschowka.

At the checkered flag Lewis won. By then the charging Cail was back in second with Olschowka ending up third ahead of fourth place Joe Conroy.

Now it was time for the fast guys, the IMCA Modifieds to take to the track. When the green waged Wade Taylor was on point followed by Chris Lewis and Dave Duate Jr.

Taylor then spin out of the lead and soon Lewis was being chased by Shawn Natenstedt, who took the lead. Then Lewis used an inside move to retake the point.

Natenstedt  faded to third while Alec Childs moved into second and was chasing Lewis. At the end Natenstedt finished third ahead of his teammate, fourth place Dave Sciarroni.

The Bootlegger feature didn’t last two laps due to a crash. Daniel Keys would be the winner.

Only two Bootleggers were on hand and they raced going the opposite way. Soon after the start Dodge Turner rolled his car and after some delay it was decided to call this race.

Now it was time for the Sierra Nevada Sprint Car Series to run the final race of their season. On the green Trey Walters jumped into the lead while Grasen Ternora was second.

Soon there was a duel for second between Johnson and Ternora. There was one caution when one car spun in Turn 4.

Trey Walters on his way to winning the Sprint Car feature.

In the end Walters left everyone in his dust as the scored the victory. Behind him Ternora ended up second ahead of Johnson and fourth place Jordan Garretson.

Micro Sprints ended the night. Four of them took the green and Barry Lampert left everyone his dust until his motor sputtered and ended his night.

Micro Sprints ended the DTC night and Alexis Zeiter won the race.

Back on the track Alexis Zeiter won the race followed by John Zeiter and Rick Zeiter.

After the dust settled it was time to recognize this year’s Dirt Track Champions and hand out those trophies. Only one driver won the championship in two difference classes and that was Shawn Natenstedt.

This year’s champions are Kent Knisley – Mini Stocks, Joe Frock – Dwarf Car, Shawn Natenstedt – Street Stocks, Jimmy Ford – IMCA Sport Mod, Zach Cail – Stock Cars, Shawn Natenstedt – IMCA Modifieds, Daniel Keys – Bootleggers, Barry Lampert – Micro Sprints.

Now the season has ended and on November 9th Rattlesnake Raceway will holds its awards banquet. Then in the spring of 2025 Rattlesnake Raceway will again echo to the sounds of horsepower and racing.
