RATTLESNAKE RACEWAY ALAN DIAS MEMORIAL

FALLON, NV (SEPT. 14) — This weekend Rattlesnake Raceway honored the memory of long time racer Alan Dias, whose family also races. It was a full program for both days.

Saturday’s show began when the field lined up on the track prior to a memorial lap to honor Dias. On the front row were three cars raced by family members.

Before the parade lap, and after the national anthem played, drivers and spectators released pink balloons. Then the field, behind the Dias family cars circled the track at a slow speed. After that everyone headed for the pits and got ready for their races

First race was the Street Stock B main and only the top 8 transferred. On the green Kent Knisley took off with Brandon Rosencrantz close behind.

There was a caution when a car broke a right front wheel while Edwin Cedeno pitted. When the green waved again Knisley took off and scored the victory.

Next up were the IMCA Northern Sportmods and at the start, Jason Jovanelly and Tyler Rodgers led the charge. An early caution slowed things but when racing resumed Rogers was on point.

The race changed with Roger suddenly slowed on the backstretch and limped around and headed for the pits. Up front Jovanelly took the gift and roared off to claim the victory while Tom Duncan wasn’t too far behind in second.

When the green waved to start the Mini Stock main Joseph Cook and Nehamian Souze were briefly side-by-side. After that Cook took off while Souza faded back.

At the checkered flag Cook had a huge lead while Dakota Thunder ended up second and Ryan Stevenson ended up third.

Next the Dwarf Cars took to the track. On the green William Christiano lead with Chris Christiano almost right beside him. Behind them Joe Frock was moving through traffic and heading for the front.

Soon it was all over but the shouting as Frock took the lead and left everyone in his dust. He won with Chris Christiano second and Philip Rowland ending up third.

When the IMCA Modified feature began Tyler Jones and Katelynn Robertson were up front. Soon Jones spun bringing out a caution.

After that there was a long duel between Matt Kampfraat and Robertson. Lap after lap they ran nose-to-tail and sometimes side-by-side.

Eventually Robertson gained the lead and was able to put a gap between them. After her victory she stopped on the front straight and showed her trophy to the fans.

Now it was time for the Northern Nevada Sprint Cars to take to the track. On the green Try Walters used the low line exiting Turn 2 to take the lead from Doug Lippincott.

From that point the race belonged to Walters as he left everyone in his dust. He won with Jordan Garreston finished second and Grasen Ternora ended up third.

When the green waved for the IMCA Stock Car feature a dozen drivers stormed into the first turn. Up front Zach Cail took the point with Marie Curtis giving chase.

Cail was putting a gap between himself and the pack but a caution bunched everyone up. Soon after the green there was another caution.

Up front Cody Morris had taken the point and roared off to claim the victory. Royce Goetz wound up second ahead of third place Cail and Jeff Olschowka, after coming from the back, finished fourth.

Only three Bootleggers took the green. Up front Caleb Haynes took the lead and won the race.

Now it was time for the Memorial Street Stock race.

When the green waved 20-cars charged into the first turn.

Up front Tom Haxall led with Joe Conroy, who spun and brought out the first caution while Kent Knisley stopped on the backstretch.

When the green waved again Haxall was on point with three cars giving chase. Then there was a shorty duel with Les Friend.

Soon after that Shawn Natenstedt, with his daughter Mckenzie riding shotgun, took the lead and began to distance himself from the pack.

In the remaining laps Natenstedt was on point but there were at least six cautions for spins and cars breaking down or in the wall. The last one was for debris when the back panels came off one car.

In the final laps Natenstedt was lapping other cars on his way to take the victory and prize that went with it. Ryan Parkhurst ended up second with Les Friend third while Cody Morris finished fourth.

Due to the many cautions only 12 of the starters took the checkered flag. That meant eight either ended up in the pits or on the infield

While it was a long race that was shortened to 20-laps due to the late hour the tribute do Alan Dias was memorial. Many of the drivers had good memories of knowing and competing with him.

Next up for Rattlesnake Raceway will the season ending Dirt Track Championships. It will be two days of racing on Friday and Saturday evening.

• Sunday morning Reno Cars & Coffee had its second meet of the month. As usual there were a variety of cars and trucks with a lot of them having their hoods up.

There is also a group of motorcycle riders that are showing up for these meets. This time they were next to a Lamborghini, whose owner was letting some people sit in it.

• Over at Baldini’s Northern Nevada Classic’s was having its last meet of the year. Hounds and Hot Rods was to benefit the ASPCA and there were raffles, prizes and live entertainment.

There were vehicles from different eras as well.

There were so many cars the meet used a larger area than normal and had very long rows where a person could view them.

One person there was Kevin Degregori the founder of Northern Nevada Classics, who also runs the Nevada Car Coalition.

“It’s our last Show ‘N Shine charity cruise and it benefits the ASPCA,” he said.

Asked about a meeting at the National Auto Museum he said, “That’s for Nevada Car Coalition, we’re going to bring back Summer Salute next year. The meeting is October 13^th at 1 p.m. We’re asking all the clubs to come down and see if they want to be involved helping putting on the show.

“In the Coalition I think we have about 39 clubs. For Northern Nevada Classics we’ll have a meeting in January and discuss what we want to do for the year. We welcome all years, makes and models our club loves all cars.”

• Tuesday starting at 6:30 p.m. is when Trucks & Tacos will meet at Buenos Grill. Location is 3892 Mayberry.

• Wednesday is the next to last A&W Cruise night. Location is the Sparks A&W across from Reed High School at 1311 Baring Blvd. There will be cars, music and prizes.

• Davey’s American Racing is found on Face Book. His focus is on western oval tracks as well as national series.
