FRONTIER DAY RACES AT LOVELOCK SPEEDWAY

LOVELOCK, NV (AUG. 3) — Every year the rural town of Lovelock Nevada celebrates its founding with Frontier Days. Not far out of downtown the Lovelock Speedway has two nights called the Frontier Days Races.

One added incentive is a special belt buckle awarded to those that earned the most points in several classes over the two nights.

Corre LaFrance was the only Mod Mini to answer the green flag for the feature.

First up Saturday was the Mod Mini class. Unfortunately only Corre LaFrance was able to answer the green flag so he got his own 5-lap feature.

John Flowers won the Bootleggers feature.

Only two Bootleggers were on hand and after the green Peter Lossing took off while john Flowers was chasing him. Both drivers swapped the lead during their 8-lap feature but in the end Flowers scored the victory.

Next were the Dwarf Cars and there were seven of them that took the green. Up front Phil Roland was on point with Glenn Sciarani giving chase.

Joe Frock started at the back and was working his way forward and soon moved into second. Then he made his move in Turn 4 and took the lead but Roland, who came down from Vancouver, Washington wasn’t making it easy.

Joe Frock on his way to winning the Dwarf Car feature as well as earning a championship belt buckle.

At the end Frock had 1 one second lead over runner up Roland. Vuki Wilson ended up third while Sciarani finished fourth.

The victory earned Frock the champion’s belt buckle.

Shawn Natensdtedt swept both IMCA Modified feature races.

While two cautions, one for debris, slowed the pace Shawn Natenstedt led from green to checkered in the IMCA Modified feature. Runner up Cole Jones recovered from a spin while Steven Anderson finished third.

His second victory in two days earned Natenstedt a belt buckle.

When the Gen-X feature began Austin Sprague was on point with Kent Knisley and Cooper Lee giving chase. Later Lee would fall out with mechanical problems.

Up front both Sprague and Knisley were very close as they dueled for the lead. The deciding moment came late in the race when they encountered a slower car.

In the Gen-X feature Kent Knisley (83) was able to score the win when he got around Austin Sprague.

Knisley was on the outside and able to quickly get past the slower car while Sprague was not and fell to second. At the checkered flag Knisley won with Sprague second followed by Daniel Bond in third.

After the points were added Sprague earned the belt buckle.

On Friday Marie Curtis was unable to start the IMCA Stock Car feature. Saturday was a very different story as she took off and essentially left everyone in her dust.

Marie Curtis was a rocket on Saturday when she won the IMCA Stock Car feature.

Behind her the battle was for second as Zach Cail and Cody Morris were disputing the spot. In the end Curtis not only posted the fastest lap but won the race.

Behind her Cail was able to finish in the runner-up spot with Morris third. Due to his winning on Friday Morris had enough points to earn the belt buckle for the class.

When the green waved 11 IMCA Northern Sport Mods headed for Turn 1. Up front Tyler Rodgers was on point with Shaun Merritt giving chase.

There was a quick caution, possibly for debris right after the race began. Around the halfway point both Rodgers and Merritt slowed for flat tires.

This brought out the caution which was lengthened as track officials inspected the track for any debris. Having both first and second place cars pit for a flat tire was a bit unusual.

When racing resumed Rafel Flores was on point while Tom Duncan was giving chase. At the end of the pack Rodgers returned and began his charge toward the front.

Up front Duncan took the lead dropping Flores to second. He would slip to third when the charging Rodgers took over second.

Tom Duincan holds off early leader Tyler Rodgers during the IMCA Northern Sportmod feature.

While it was close Duncan hung on to win while Rodgers, who came from Chico, California, ended up second. Behind them Flores was third while Mark Hain ended up fourth.

In the end Cody Morris had enough points to win the belt buckle for that class.

The Street Stocks had the honor of ending the evening. On the green Ryan Parkhurst took the lead while Tom Haxall was second.

Phil Roland dominated the Street Stock feature on Saturday night.

Soon after that Phil Roland took over second while Haxall slipped to third. Now Parkhust and Roland were running nose to tail.

A car spinning coming out of Turn 4 brought a caution. Soon after the restart Roland used an inside move in Turn 4 to claim the lead.

Even though there was another caution Roland left everyone in his dust. He would win followed by Parkhurst and Haxall with Jeff Elerick ending up fourth.

Phil Roland ended the night’s racing when he won the Street Stock feature.

Roland did set the fastest lap while Thomas Hanauska had enough points to earn that class belt buckle.

Results for both days are posted at the end of this article. Next race for Lovelock Speedway is the season ending event on Saturday, August 24th.
