RACING & CAR MEET PREVIEW: JUNE 20-23

RENO, NV (JUNE 19) — Summer officially arrives on Friday but the car meet scene and racing are already rolling. There are a bunch of meets and events as well as big announcement.

CAR MEETS:

• Thursday starts in the cool of the morning at 8 a.m. when Iron Mafia has its weekly meet at Kim’s Donuts. Locatrion is 1328 U.S. 395 North in Gardnerville.

There is another Thursday Night Cruise.
  • Later that day, starting at 5 p.m., the Carson City Thursday Night Cruise starts at the Human Bean located on Highway 50 East.
There is also a Pop Up Event car meet Thursday in Carson City.

         – That same evening, starting at 8:30 p.m. there is a Pop Up Car Meet. Location is at the Old Sonic/Human Bean Coffee Stand.

Friday is the next Summit Racing cruise-in.

• Friday starting at 4 p.m. Summit Racing has it’s next Friday night cruise in. Location is 960 E. Glendale in Sparks, just across from the railroad tracks.

  • To the east starring at 6 p.m. the weekly Friday Night Meet in Fernley will happen. Location is at the 76th Station on Main Street.
The annual Women with Wheelz has moved to Baldinis’s Casino.

• Saturday has three car meets. The annual Women with Wheelz has moved to the Baldini’s Casino parking lot. Time is 9 to 2:30 p.m. and a portion of the proceeds benefits Mom’s On The Run.

The Automobile Museum has a Hagerty Drivers Club meet.
  • At the Automobile Museum there is a meet from 9 until 11 a.m. with the Hagerty Drivers Club. Haggerty insures classic automobiles.

  • Although I was unable to find a poster graphic there is supposed to be a Classic Cars & Cookout at the Somerset Senior Living facility. Location is 6215 Sharlands Ave. in Reno.

• Sunday, starting at 10 a.m., is when Sparks Cars & Coffee meets again. Location is by the Starbucks located at 171 Disc Drive.

The next Brunch ‘N Classics is at Baldini’s Casino on Sunday.
  • At Baldini’s Casino in Sparks, and starting around 11 p.m., is the next Brunch ‘N Classics. The Northern Nevada Classics are the host and there are gift card drawings, 50/50 Raffles as well as Trophies.
Untouchable Image has a pot luck BBQ at Washoe State Park on Sunday.
  • Down at Washoe State Park on Sunday there is the Untouchable Image Potluck BBQ. Location is 4855 Eastlake Blvd., which is actually in Reno Township. Should be a nice day by the lake.

RACING (4-WHEEL):

Sierra Nevada Sprint Car Series visits Lovelock Speedway this Friday and Saturday.

• Lovelock has a Friday and Saturday with racing beginning around 7 p.m. In addition to the regular classes the Sierra Nevada Sprint Car Series visits the track.

• Top Gun Dragstrip has the three-day Fallon 1320 event this weekend. It will be in conjunction with Summit Race #7.

  • On Friday gates open at noon and the track goes hot at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday things usually get going around 9 a.m.

Tonopah Speedway has two days of racing that includes the IMSA series.

• Tonopah Speedway not only hosts its regular classes but is visited by the IMCA Racing series. Racing begins around 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):

• When this preview was posted the motocross track at Fernley NinetyfiveA Speedway had not posted a schedule for this weekend. Best bet is to check their Face Book page.

         – The Fernley Sandbox MX track will remain closed  through June

Due to the expected heat Winnemucca MX has canceled this weekend’s races.

• Winnemucca Motocross has canceled the event schedule for this weekend. Apparently the expected heat wave was the reason.

MMX Racing has practice this weekend.

• MMX Racing has practice this weekend and on Saturday times are from 9 until 2 p.m. using the Main, Sand and Kid’s tracks. Sunday’s times are from 9 until 3 p.m. with the Vintage track added to the mix.

• Due to the expected heat E Street MX Park has changed it times to 8 until 1 p.m. but they’ll have sessions Saturday and Sunday.

• Riverfront MX only posted Thursday practice from 5 until 10 p.m. but had nothing for Saturday and Sunday. Again check with their page before heading out over the weekend.

• Prairie City MX has sessions from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

It’s a Sierra Ride weekend at the track.

 • For those that like to ride the Argyll track this weekend is a Sierra ride weekend. If not a member you can join at the track.

• The AMA Pro Motocross series is off this weekend.

RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):

• Thursday is the time to check out www.Flowracing.com and www.mavtv.com as well as www.youtube.com for events or highlights one wants to see.

• Friday at 4:25 a.m., for you early risers, ESPN 2 has the first Formula 1 practice from Spain. There are other ESPN channels that will carry the Formula 3 and Formula 2 sessions.

  • At 5 a.m. www.mavtv.com has the Supercar race from Melbourne. This series has some pretty wild racing from Down Under.
  • ESPN 2 comes on atr 7:55 a.m. with Formula 1 practice #2 from Spain.
  • The USA Network at 1 p.m. has Xfinity Series Practice and Qualifying from Louden, New Hampshire. Then at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 2 has ARCA Racing from Louden.

• Saturday starts at 6:55 a.m. when ESPN 2 has Formula 1 qualifying from Spain. Then at 9:30 a.m. the USA Network has NASCAR Cup practice and qualifying from Louden.

  • At 10 a.m. Fox Sports 1 has NHRA Qualifing Show #2 from Virginia followed at 12:30 p.m. when the USA Network airs the Xfinity race from Louden. Then at 12:25 www.mavtv.com airs qualifying from the IMSA event at Watkins Glen, New York.

• Sunday starts at 5;55 a.m. when ESPN broadcasts the Formula 1 race from Catalunya, Spain. Then at 8 a.m. www.imsa.tv an Peacock airs IMSA Weather Tech Sportscar race from Watkins Glen.

  • Fox Sports 1 comes on at 10 a.m. with the NHRA Qualifying Show #2.

  • The USA network at 11:30 broadcasts the NASCAR Cup race from Louden. Many times this is an action packed event.

         – Fox Sports 1 at 2 p.m. airs the final rounds from the NHRA Virginia Nationals. Then at 3:30 p.m. USA or Peacock will air the Indy Car Firestone GP of Monterey from the classic Laguna Seca course.

OTHER RACING NEWS:

Sadly Club Rowdy has canceled its season and might be looking for a new venue.

Just found out that Club Rowdy, which was running drifting events out at Fernley has canceled is season. I would advise those interested to check their Face Book page for more information and they maybe looking for a new venue.

  • The drifting events will be taken over by Battle Bron Motorsports. Be sure to check their Face Book page for their schedule.

Davey’s American Racing is found on Face Book. His focus is on western oval tracks as well as national series.
