MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND RACE AT DIAMOND MOUNTAIN

SUSANVILLE, CALIF. (May 25) — It’s Memorial Day weekend and Diamond Mountain Speedway had a Friday-Saturday show. Great although cool, weather set the stage for two nights of great racing.

As part of opening ceremonies all the cars lined up for a 4-wide salute to those veterans that are lost or have passed.

Since it was Memorial Day weekend the entire field of cars lined up 4-wide on the track before opening ceremonies. Announcer Davey Munoz played the National Anthem then followed that with Taps to honor those veterans that have passed or never came home.

The memorial parade laps followed this car.

After that the field followed a vintage car with a flag and did two slow parade laps.

Malacni Moya makes a double as the scored the Mini Stock win on Saturday. He also won on Friday.

The Mini Stocks started the program. Although he was second in the heat race Malachi Moya took over the lead but later second place Angelo Rallo spun in Turn 3.

After the restart Rallo briefly was on point until Moya took over. Then he too spun in Turn 3.

In the final laps Moya took off and made it a double as he also scored the Mini Stock win Friday.

After winning Saturday’s Mini Stock feature Malacni Moya stands with both trophies.

After the race Moya said, “The heat was a little slick but I kept it in second at least. The main I was more prepared, especially for the slick track but when I came out here wasn’t as slick as I thought it would be.”

Then he thanked his parents, grand mother and gave special thanks to his grandfather “Gpa,” for helping him work on the car.

Next up were the IMCA Sport Mods. On the green Chuck Golden took off but there was a full restart needed when Michael Helwig spun as did Brysyn Simeral to avoid him.

Two more cautions slowed the pace but up front Golden was chased by Simeral and Mike Ficklin Jr. In the end Golden scored the victory followed by Ficklin and Simeral.

Anthony Duffany scored a double when he won both Dwarf Car features.

Only two Dwarf Cars were on hand and Anthony Duffany won the heat and main with Ryan Barney in the runner up spot.

When the IMCA Modified feature began there was a three-wide charge into Turn 1. Coming onto the back stretch Wade Kennemore was on point with Chris Nieman and Kate Robertson.

There was a caution when two cars tangled in Turn 4. On the restart Kennemore led Nieman and Ryan McDaniel. Up front Kennemore extended his lead while Kevin Pendergrass pulled onto the infield rather than cause a caution,

One more caution bunched the field after a car spun in Turn 4. When the green waved again McDaniel charged into the lead as the field roared down the front straight.

While McDaniel extended his lead Nieman and Kennemore dueled for second. Scott Foreman move into fourth. At the checkered McDaniel scored the victory followed by Nieman, Kennemore, Foreman and Robertson ended up fifth.

The largest field of the night was in Street Stocks where 15 cars took the green. Up front Aaron Flurnoy was on point but a tangle with two cars caused a full restart.

In the Street Stock feature Aaron Flournoy scored the victory.

When the green waved again Jake Campbell and Flournoy headed into Turn 1 side-by-side. After Turn 2 Flournoy was again in the lead followed by Campbell and Richie Altman.

As the leader left everyone in his dust the duel was for second between Ryan Parkhurst, Campbell and Altman.

In the end Flournoy won followed by Parkhurst, Campell, Altman while Grayson Olschowka ended up fifth.

During the trophy presentation Aaron Flournoy stands with his family.

After the race, when he received the winner’s trophy Flournoy said, “It’s been a battle all weekend, we started off yesterday put a brand new distributor in and fought the car all day. Couldn’t get it going, swapped back to our old parts.

“Swapped back to an old carburetor, put in a fuel pump so battled all day long. It was a long day for sure.”

Then he thanked 4B Powder Coating, R.J. Equipment, John Wisser Construction and Likely Land and Livestock.

The night ended with the IMCA Stock Car feature. When the green waved seven cars charged toward Turn 1. Up front Carl Barlow was on point with Wade Kennemore and Royce Goetz giving chase.

There was a caution when two cars tangled. The one of Jeff Tuttle had to be towed back to the pits.

On the restart  Barlow took off but soon Kennemore took over the lead. Behind him Mike Ficklin and Goetz started a long duel for second.

IMCA Stock Car winner Wade Kennemore left everyone in his dust as he roared away to the victory.

At the end Kennemore had a straight away lead over runner up Ficklin. He was followed by third place Goetz and Barlow, who ended up fourth.
