MRANN AT LOVELOCK

LOVELOCK, NV (April 7) — Mason Valley Dirt Squirts staged the third round, called the Mazuma 100, of the 2024 MRANN season. The pits and finish were located at the Lovelock Speedway and the start was about a half mile away.

The classes were broken down into various groups with the AA pros starting first. It took seven rows to get every one started as they roared toward the hills.

At the end of the first lap two AA pro riders were battling for the lead. First into the pits was Madden Kiresch with Laine Stephens only 13 seconds behind him.

Four minutes behind the two leaders came then third place Willy Heiss followed by Jordan Maas. After that riders kept filing in but they were strung out.

After almost three hours of racing Laine Stephens takes the checkered flag as he wins the Mazuma 100.

At the finish, after battling for both laps Stephens claimed first over all with Kirsch taking the runner up spot about 30 seconds later. Stephens elapsed time was 2:45:43.

After taking the checkered flag Stephens said, “First off the start was fine then me and Madden got into a pretty good battle. He passed me at the end of lap 1, kind of put a gap, I caught him in the tight stuff out there. I made the pass and just rode as hard as I could. The course was great, loved it.”

Then he thanked his parents and especially his dad that got him this brand new bike. He also thanked Gil Grieve for his suspension.

Finishing second at Lovelock wasMadden Kirsch, another AA Class racer.

Next to take the checkered flag was Kirsch and after being welcomed by family and friends said, “It was a pretty good race, me and Laine battled back and fourth all the first lap. Man he was hauling, he got the start on me and I passed him then he passed me back and followed him for most of the first lap and I got a pass on him right before we dropped out of the hills.

“Then he passed me for the second lap, just couldn’t get him. I had a National Hare and Hound race yesterday and kind of started tired but Laine was rippin.”

Then he thanked Michael’s Reno Power Sports, Dunlop, Renthal, IMS and Gil Grieve for driving me down here, he’s with TBT Suspension. Then he thanked his parents.

Willy Heiss rides in the Over 40 Expert Class and ended up third overall.

Coming home third 10 minutes after the two leaders was Willy Heiss, who topped the 40+ Expert Class. His elapsed time was 2:56:58.

Asked about his race he said, “It was a fun course, nice and sloppy up top, nice and rocky, it was pretty good. It was nice, technical and it was a lot of fun.

“I started in the third row so I had a lot catching up to do but I got everybody except for two. I’m happy with that ride.”

Then he thanked his wife and daughter, who help him get out there. TBRT Racing and Moose Racing, ODI.

Jordan Maas, who rides in the Open Expert Class finished 4th only 25 seconds behind third place.

Fourth overall was Jordan Mass who rides in the Open Expert class and also was in Utah Saturday for the National Hare and Hound event. He was three minutes behind third with an elapsed time of 2:59:33.

Asked about the weekend and race he said, “It was pretty rough. Race was pretty good, got a dead last start but worked to the lead pretty quick.

“I felt pretty good the first lap but when I started the second lap I was pretty tired and sore. Just trying to make it through.

Then he thanked his parents, his brother and Grandpa for pitting Quick Moto, ODI, OGO, Pro Circuit and everyone else that helped him.

The first Amateur to finish both laps was Brenden Peart, who rides in the Open Amateur Class. His elapsed time was 3:13:17.

Benden Peart finiahed ninth and was the first Amateur to complete both laps.

After being greeted he said, “The race was rough but I did it. This is my third big bike race. The course was rocky, rough,it got pretty tough on the last lap but it was fun.”

Then he thanked his parents, RMS, Big Valley Honda and everyone that helps out.

Peart moved up from racing Saturdays at the start of this season. After two races in the Novice class he finished well enough to be bumped up to the Amateur Class. His goal is to move up to the Expert Class by the end of this season.

Riding at his home race Sebastien Donaldson used his home field advantage to win the Novice Class when he finished 25th overall.

Coming home 25th was the first Novice, Sebastien Donaldson. His elapsed time was 3:34:52 and unlike most of the racers he kind of had a home field advantage.

“The race was awesome, this is my home race as I live in Lovelock. So it’s pretty cool, I’ve never won before so this is pretty sweet,” he said. “We’ve run this a lot and my dad used to run the track that used to be here and built more of those trails. .

“We rode that a lot and I knew about 80% of the course I was out on. Just tried to keep a good flow.”

Then he thanked Michael’s Reno, Getz Racing Seats, his whole family that was cheering him on. He gave a special thanks to his brother, who keeps pushing him to be better.

The first woman was recent college graduate Carle Legenbauer, who comes from a racing family. Her elapsed time was 3:48:39 and she rides in the Women’s Amateur Class.

Carley Legenbauer rides in the Woman’s Amateur Class and was the first women to complete both laps.

“The race was really fun, the dirt was awesome,” she said. “The tops of those hills were kind of slick. Most of it was pretty good. That first lap was pretty packed with people but the second lap they spaced out a lot.

Then she thanked her parents for fixing her bike and getting her out to the races.

Dennis Belingheri, despite having a small problem at the start of his second lap finished 6th overall all and won the Over 50 Expert Class.

Moving up the age ranks the Desert Fox, Dennis Belingheri, who rides in the Over 50 Expert Class ended up sixth with an elapsed time of 3:03:54. Topping the age ladder was 46th place Chris Sunderland, who rides in the Over 60 Class and had an elapsed time of 3:51:13.

When the day began 134 riders lined up in their respective class lines. Of those 121 were classed as finishers – a rider has to complete one full lap – and 13 were DNF’s.

While the medics did check on two riders only one of needed a private ride to be checked out.
