RENO, NV (March 27) — Well here it is Easter weekend and we have two races in our region as oval track season gets started. Next month there will be off-road racing, motocross, go-karts plus more oval track events.
CAR MEETS:
• The weekend gets rolling at 8 a.m. when the Iron Mafia has its Thursday morning meet. Location is Kim’s Donuts located at 1328 U.S. 395 North in Gardnerville.
• Friday, starting at 6 p.m. is the next Fernley Meet. Location is the 76th Station, about half way between the signal and round about.
• The National Automobile Museum has a special event Saturday. Adam Carolla is bringing six of Paul Newman’s race cars. Besides being a great actor, Newman was an accomplished sports car racer.
- Apparently the VIP tickets to the theater presentation are sold out but there are still others for this event.
• Since it’s the fifth weekend of the Month there is nothing planned Sunday for any Cars & Coffee groups. However there is always a chance for a pop up event.
• On Monday at 7 p.m. there is a MoPar Club meeting at the Sparks A&W, which is located across from Reed High School.
RACING (4-WHEEL):
• Diamond Mountain Speedway in Susanville gets the regional oval track season going on Saturday, March 30. The action begins at 6 p.m. and one highlight to the evening is the annual Easter Egg Hunt.
• Nothing else next week for oval tracks in this region.
RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):
• Round 2 of the BBMX series is this weekend. Event is the Fernley Sandbox located just west of the Veteran’s Cemetery.
- Friday is for parking and camping then on Saturday gates open a 7 a.m. with practice from 9 until 2 p.m. followed by the Stacyc race for the youngest riders. Then after those awards have been handed out there is an Easter Egg Hunt for the youngsters.
- Gates open Sunday at 6:30 a.m. with a short practice session starting at 8 a.m. After that it’s a full day of racing.
– BBMX is recruiting flaggers for their event. I believe they not only pay the flaggers but provide a free lunch for them. Great way to see the racing up close and personal.
• Over the hill MMX Racing has the Moto Academy on Saturday. Sunday should be the normal 9 until 2 p.m. practice.
• When this preview was posted, due to the incoming weather, Prairie City MX, E Street MX Park and Riverfront MX had not posted their schedules. Best advice is to check before heading out although it’s possible all these tracks will have their normal practice over the weekend.
• For those racing in the P.R.O. MX Winter series registration is open for Round 5.
RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):
• On Thursday at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub then at 5 p.m. www.mavtv.com airs Trans Am racing from Road Atlanta.
• Friday starts at 3 p.m. when Fox Sports 1 has another edition of NASCAR Race Hub from Richmond. Then at 7:30 p.m. Mavtv has the championship round from Las Vegas for the AMA Arenacross series.
• Saturday starts at 10:30 a.m. when Fox Sports 1 broadcasts the Xfinity race from Richmond.
- Peacock, starting at 10:30 a.m., has Race Day Live then at 4 p.m. the network airs the AMA Supercross from St. Louis.
• CBS Sport gets Sunday rolling at 11 a.m. with the Formula E race from Tokyo, Japan.
- Then at 4 p.m. FOX has the NASCAR Cup race from Richmond Raceway. Now the teams are back on an oval for their Easter race under the lights.

• Want to give everyone a heads up. Next week, Friday April 6, is when the VCGP Pre-Race Drawing party will happen. The will auction off the front row starting spots at that time.
• If a person wants to race in the upcoming Stadium GP, held in the Reno Rodeo outdoor arena, sign ups open this coming Monday. They are only taking online signups for this event.
• Davey’s American Racing is found on Face Book. His focus is on western oval tracks as well as national series.
He recently started his broadcasts so check Face Book around 6 p.m. Wednesday.
