RENO, NV (March 20) — Spring has arrived and more racing is on the horizon as oval tracks start their test and tune sessions while motorcycle racers continue their seasons. In addition there is more on TV as well as the Internet.
Please note that incoming weather may or may not affect the events listed.
CAR MEETS:
• Once again the Iron Mafia gets the weekend rolling starting ata 8 a.m. Thursday. Location is Kim’s Donuts located at 1328 U.S. 395 North in Gardnerville.
• Friday, starting around 6 p.m. is the weekly Friday Night Meet in Fernley. Location is by the 76th Station on Main Street almost to the round about.
• Sunday is when Sparks Cars & Coffee has its next meet. Things start at 10 a.m. by the Starbucks off Disc Drive.
RACING (4-WHEEL):
• Lovelock Speedway is going to have a test and tune session this Saturday (3-23) from noon until 2 p.m.
• Sunday (3-24), from noon until 5 p.m. is when Rattlesnake Raceway in Fallon has a test and tune session.
- To the north Diamond Mountain on Sunday, from noon until 6 p.m., also has a test and tune session.
• To the south, in Baja California, Mexico there is the 37th annual SCORE San Felipe 250. They’ve been pre-running this week and it’s a single loop event on at 284 miles plus course.

RACING AND PRACTICE (MOTORCYCLES):
• To the east, outside of Toulon, west of Lovelock on I-80 the Western States Racing Association is hosting round3 of the 2024 MRANN Series. It’s the Wild Horse and Wild Pony Sprint Enduro.
- Saturday is when the Pee Wee’s, 65cc Amateur, V Women and Bombers race. Sunday, starting at 8:45 there are a pair of sprint enduro races. For further information please go to www.racemrann.com.
• Closer to home the Fernley Sandbox Motocross track is being reconfigured. There will be practice sessions from 10 until 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Remember a rider must pre-register before coming to the event so check out www.repracingmx.com.
• MMX Racing is planning on practice from 9 until 2 Saturday on the main, sand and kids tracks. Then on Sunday from 9 until 3 p.m. with the vintage track being added to the mix.
• Riverfront MX will have practice Thursday from 4 until 9 p.m. With weather coming in Rep Racing hopes to have an update Thursday for the weekend practice for both Riverfront MX and Prairie City MX.
RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):
• Thursday starts at 3 p.m. when Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub. Then at 6 and 9 p.m. www.mavtv.com has the Supercars Championship races.
- ESPN News at 6:25 p.m. has Formula 1 practice #1 from Melbourne then at 9:25 p.m. ESPN 2 has Formula 1 practice #2.
• Friday starts on Fox Sports when, at 12:30 p.m. the network has Craftsman Truck Series practice and qualifying form COTA (Circuit of the Americans in Texas). At 2:30 p.m. the network airs the practice and qualifying for the Xfinity series.
- At 6:25 p.m. ESPN News has the third Formula 1 practice and at 9:55 ESPN 2 has Formula 1 qualifying from Melbourne.
• Saturday is another big day for racing and at 7:30 a.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Cup qualifying from COTA. Then at 8 a.m. mavtv has a Trans Am TA2 race from Road Atlanta followed at 10:30 a.m. when Fox Sports 1 has the Craftsman Truck Series event from COTA.
- Peacock at 11:30 has Race Day live then at 5 p.m. broadcasts the AMA Supercross round from Seattle. Should be another action packed event.
- At 2 p.m. Fox Sports air the Xfinity race from COTA and at 6:30 p.m. has the NHRA Qualifying #1 round from the Winter Nationals.
- Then at 8:55 p.m. ESPN 2 broadcasts the Formula 1 race from Melbourne, Australia.
• Sunday begins at 9:30 a.m. when Fox Sports 1 has NHRA Qualifier #2. Also at 9:30 a.m. NBC airs the Indy Car race from Thermal.
- Fox at 12:30 p.m. broadcasts the NASCAR Cup event from COTA. This long course can be pretty challenging for drivers as they negotiate hills plus left and right turns.
- Fox Sports 1, at 7 p.m. has the NHRA Winter Nationals from Pomona. This track is the spiritual home of the NHRA and their seasons used to start and finish there.
That’s it for this weekend. If possible try and attend a live race or even a car show. Just hope the weather on Sunday cooperates.

• Don’t forget the annual Lockett Show at the Convention Center has the RV and Boat show this weekend. The RV part starts Thursday and the rest begins on Friday.
There is also the Off-Road Motorsports Expo in the show as well. One of the displays will be from the newly reborn Reno-Fernley Raceway.
• Now if the time to sign up for the next BBMX round. It will be at the Fernley Sandbox on Easter weekend.
• Davey’s American Racing is found on Face Book. His focus is on western oval tracks as well as national series.
He recently started his broadcasts so to check Face Book around 6 p.m. Wednesday.
