RENO, NV (FEB. 21) — Well here we are, ending one month and heading into March where more racing is getting started. Should be a wild month that ends with oval tracks getting going.
CAR MEETS:
• Thursday gets rolling at 7 a.m. when the Iron Mafia hosts its weekly meet. Location is Kim’s Donuts at 1328 U.S. 395 North in Gardnerville.
• Friday, starting at 4:30 p.m., is the next Fernley Friday Night meet. Location is the 76th Station and a nice way to end the workweek.
• Sparks Cars & Coffee meets at 10 a.m. on Sunday. Usually a pretty good gathering and the location is by the Starbucks on Disc Drive.
RACING (4 WHEEL):
• While none of the Northern Nevada oval tracks are running yet there is an off-road race to the south as the Legacy series starts its 2024 season. It’s the Desert Off Road Adventures Parker Dam 500.
Qualifying was Wednesday and the Pre Run is Thursday. Saturday is Race Day and Sunday is when the awards are handed out.
RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):
• One of three big events this weekend is at the Chappie-Shasta OHV Area. It’s “That Dam Enduro,” which is an AMA ISDE Qualifier. The event runs from Saturday through Monday.
• Next one is at E-Street MX Park as the track is hosting a round of the WORCS racing series. New racers are welcome.
• Finally REP Racing MX has a busy weekend at Prairie City MX. The track is hosting the Loretta Lynn Dual Area Qualifier and on Friday gates open at 7 a.m. with practice from 9 until 2 p.m.
- Saturday gates open at 6 a.m. with practice starting at 8 a.m. and racing to follow. Sunday has the same schedule.
• Riverfront MX is also busy with Saturday, from 9 until 2 p.m. being a ride day for Sierra Old Timers MX. Sunday, from 9 until 2 p.m., is open practice on the main and kids tracks.
• When this article was posted there was nothing from MMX Racing. Best bet is to check their Face Book page before heading out..
• Closer to home the Fernley Sand Box has practice from 9 until 3 p.m. Sunday. One must register at www.repracingmx.com.
RACING (NATIONAL):
• Thursday, at 3 p.m., Fox Sports 1 broadcasts NASCAR Race Hub.
• Friday is a bit busier but Fox Sports 1 carries the load as NASCAR visits Atlanta Motor Speedway. At noon the network carries qualifying for the Craftsman Truck Series then at 2 p.m. has qualifying for the Xfinity series.
• Saturday is a busy day and at 8:30 a.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Cup qualifying from Atlanta. The new qualifying system will be used for the first time.
- Peacock at 10:30 a.m. has Race Day Live and at 4 p.m. broadcasts the AMA Supercross race from Arlington, Texas. If one can’t watch the race later www.youtube.com will have highlights.
- Fox Sports 1 has the Craftsman Truck Series race starting at 11 a.m. then at 2 p.m. the network airs the Xfinity Race from Atlanta.
• Sunday it’s all Fox as Race Day starts at 11 a.m. then at noon it’s the NASCAR Cup Race from Atlanta Motor Speedway.
That’s it for this weekend. If you have a chance do attend a race as there is nothing like seeing it live. If not then do get out to a car meet where you can meet some great car people.
Take care, be safe and see you next week.
