RENO, NV (Jan. 17) — As each day has more sunshine racing seasons are getting closer. Much is on TV and the Internet and another major off-road event begins this weekend.
CAR MEETS:
• The Iron Mafia gets things started with its weekly meet at Kim’s Donuts in Gardnerville. The meet starts at 7:30 a.m. and the location is 1328 U.S 395 North.
• On Friday, starting at 4:30 p.m., the weekly Night Meet in Fernley happens. Meeting place is by the 75th Station.
• The Nevada Jeep Club hosts its annual Wine, Women and Jeeps meet starting at 4:30 p.m. Saturday. This time the location is the Belleville Win Bar located at 4500 West 4th Street, Suite 101, in Reno.
• Sunday also has a pair of meets and both of them start a 10 a.m.
- Reno Cars & Coffee meets at the Human Bean Coffee Stand located by the corner of Kietzke and Moana Lanes. There is usually a pretty good turn out at this event.
- Reno Jeeps and Coffee is also meeting that day. Location is the Human Bean Coffee Stand at the corner of South McCarran and Longley Lane.
RACING & PRACTICE (Motocross):
• The Fernley Sandbox will be open for practice Sunday from 10 until 3 p.m. Remember, you must pre-register to practice. For further information please check with www.repracingmx.com.
- REP Racing MX also announced, due to the incoming storm, both Riverfront MX and Prairie City will be closed this weekend,
- E Street MX announced the race scheduled for this weekend has been canceled. It’s been moved to January 28th due to the incoming weather.
- The Sierra OTHG chapter is supposed race this weekend at MMX. However due to the incoming weather that could be in doubt. Best bet is to check with the track before heading out.
RACING (4-WHEEL):
• While there is no racing in this immediate area there is a huge event happening to the south in Johnson Valley, California. It’s the annual Progressive King of the Hammers and up to 80,000 will be camped out there for most of the coming week.
- This weekend it’s the Liqui Moly King of the Motos. Saturday’s event is from 10 until 3 p.m. while Sunday’s is from 9 until 3p.m. For further information and where to see the live please check out, www.kingofthehammers.com
- Then on Monday things get going as the event runs through Saturday. Saying the event is wild and action packed would be an understatement.
RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):
• The Dakar Rally is in its second week as the racers and teams head into their final runs. On Thursday, at 11 a.m., www.mavtv.com has highlights.
- All during the event www.youtube.com has had highlights of the Dakar Rally,
- On Thursday at 3 p.m. mavtv has the season review of the DTM (German Touring Car) series.
• As usual Friday is pretty empty but it’s still a good time to catch up with the daily highlights of the Dakar Rally. Those can be found on www.youtube.com.
- Other sources of watching racing are www.floracing,com, www.speedshifttv.com, www.dirtvision.com and www.motortrendondemand.com. Remember all but You Tube are subscription services.
• Saturday at 11 a.m. www.imsa.tv and Peacock has race 1 of the VP Racing Sportscar Challenge from Daytona. This event kicks off Speedweek out there.
- Peacock is handling the AMA Supercross this weekend. Saturday begins at noon with Race Day Live then at 5:30 p.m. the network airs the race from San Diego.
• On Sunday IMSATV and Peacock combine to show Race #2 of the VP Racing Sportscar Challenge. Then at 10:25 Peacock broadcasts the IMSA Weather Tech Sportscar Series as they qualify for the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona.

• For those that raced in the BBMX series remember the awards banquet is this Saturday. The function begins at 3 p.m. and is at Boomtown.
• If you are a car enthusiast the Nevada Car Coalition is having a planning meeting next month. They ask that you RSVP by the 29th so they’ll know who will be there. The aim is to plan events for this year.
• Davey’s American Racing is found on Face Book. His focus is on western oval tracks as well as national series.
He recently started his weekly broadcasts and those are at 6 p.m. Wednesday evenings on Face Book. Have to check every week, as some times he won’t be on.
