FALLON, NV (October 28): The oval track season for Northern Nevada came to a close with the Halloween Races at Rattlesnake Raceway. As a special treat, after the heat races there was a trick or treat session for the youngsters on the front straight.
The weather while clear and windy was cold but there were four features with five classes. The IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Northern Sport Mods ran separate heats but a combined feature while the Street Stocks had the largest car count.
In the Bootlegger feature it was no contest. Peter Lossing not only won the heat race then made it double when he ran away with the feature.
Next up were the Mini Stocks and on the green Kent Knisley was briefly on point. That was until Travis Showe dove past him going into Turn 1.
Two cautions slowed the pace. The first one eliminated both Mikki Beuchat and Dakota Thunder.
Up front Showe was able to hold off all challengers and won the winner’s trophy.
Now it was time for the fastest classes, the IMCA Modifieds (A Mods) and the IMCA Northern Sport Mods (B Mods). On the green Buddy Olschowka took off while the others were giving chase.
Two cautions slowed every thing down but on every restart Olschowka was on point. Behind him Evan Scroggins was under challenge from Katelynn Robertson, who was running a B Mod for this race.
At the end Olschowka scored the overall and A mod victory while Robertson was the Mod winner.
Robertson is the IMCA Nevada state Modified champion and is going down to Las Vegas to compete in this year’s Duel in the Desert.
Finally it was time for the Street Stocks and 17 took the green flag. Up front it was Jeff Olshowka, running the only Mustang in the field, followed by David “Donut Man,” Ausano and Mikki Beuchat.
There would be five cautions before the halfway mark. After that all restarts were single file. Up front Olschowka was able to keep any challengers at bay while Beuchat took over second and Ausano held third.
By now the race had gone past it’s usual time limit but after a pair of late race cautions the next restart started a green-white-checkered sequence. Even then there was a last lap scramble.
Olschowka took the year’s final checkered flat and even had a trophy girl, who is with the Carson Cigar Bar, hand him the award.
Next on the track’s schedule is the award’s banquet held on Saturday, November 4th.
