RENO, NV (Oct. 18) — This week off road racing, car meets and a bunch of racing on TV as well as motocross action over the hill. It will be a busy fall weekend for some.
CAR MEEETS:
• Thursday, starting at 7 p.m. Iron Mafia hosts its weekly meet at Kim’s Donuts & Tea House. Location is 1328 U.S. 395 North in Gardnerville.
• At 5:30 Friday evening Fernley Car Meets hosts another cruise. Great way to end the week and meeting place is at the 76th Station.
• Saturday has a trio of car meets, one in Fallon while one is happening on the west side of Reno and another in Sparks
.
- What maybe the final event of the season Fallon ‘N’ Cars and Coffee, and the Chamber of Commerce, is having a ribbon cutting ceremony for the Rustoration Garage. Should be a great time.
- On the west side of Reno it’s Classic Cars & Chili presented by Northern Nevada Classics. Times are 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Summerset Senior Living at 6025 Sharlands Avenue.
- Saturday, from 11 until 4 p.m., Battleborn Binders, a nickname for International Harvester vehicles, is hosting Binders for Boobies charity event. All vehicles are welcome and the location is at Final Draught, 5318 Sparks Blvd.
• Sunday from 10 until noon Sparks Cars & Coffee will host its second meet of the month. Location is by the Starbucks off Disc Drive in Sparks.
RACING (4-Wheel):
• This weekend VORRA and Legacy Racing are joining forces for the Gold Rush Race from Virginia City to Tonopah. Tech is in Virginia City Friday afternoon so part of C Street will be blocked off.
The race begins at Weeks early Saturday morning. The first bikes are expected at Top Gun Drag Strip around 8 a.m. while the first trucks about noon; there are no spectators allowed at Salt Wells.
The race is about 350 miles long and goes over challenging terrain. Awards are presented Sunday in Tonopah.
• Northern Nevada Kart Club track, Desert Park Raceway will be closed from 8 a.m. until noon Saturday.
RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):
• Fernley NinetyfiveA Speedway has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
• Riverfront MX Park will be busy this weekend. On Thursday, from 5 until 10 p.m. there is open practice.
- Saturday gates open at noon with practice starting at 4 p.m. and racing to follow. It’s the final round of the Saturday Night Series.
• Prairie City MX has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
• E Street MX has open practice from 9 until 2 p.m. on the front and back tracks.
• MMX Racing has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. on the main, sand and kid tracks. Then Sunday practice from 9 until 3 p.m. with the vintage track added to the mix.
- On Sunday at MMX there is a demonstration of the Stark electric motorcycle. They have a morning then an afternoon session.
RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):
• Thursday at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub. Only two more events on the schedule so it’s a critical race for drivers.
• Friday starts at 6:15 a.m. when ESPN News has the first Formula 1 Academy practice from the Circuit of the Americans (COTA) outside of Austin Texas.
- At 10:25 ESPN 2 has Formula 12 practice from COTA when at 10:55 a.m. ESPN News airs the second F-1 Academy practice from COTA.
- ESPN 2 comes back at 1:55 p.m. with Formula 1 qualifying from COTA. Then a 3 p.m. the USA network has Xfinity qualifying from Homestead-Miami and at 3:30 p.m. ESPN News has F-1 Academy qualifying from COTA.
• Saturday begins on the NBC Sports App at 6 a.m. when the NASCAR Cup practice and qualifying are shown from Homestead-Miami.
- At 7:45 a.m. ESPN News has F-1 Academy race from COTA. Then at 9 a.m. Fox Sports 1 has the Craftsman Truck race from Homestead-Miami.
- ESPN News comes back on at 1:30 with the second F-1 Academy race from COTA. Then at 2:55 p.m. the network has the Formula 1 sprint race.
• Sunday begins a 7:40 a.m. when the third F-1 Academy race is shown from COTA.
- CNBC gets going at 10:30 a.m. when they air the MotoGP race from Phillip Island.
- At 10:20 a.m. ABC airs the Formula 1 race from COTA as the Texas weekend ends for this globe trotting series.
- Finally at 11:30 a.m. NBC broadcasts the NASCAR Cup Race from Homestead-Miami. For the few drivers not yet eliminated this is a critical event as the final four will be decided. Then they face off for the season ending championship race one week later in Phoenix.
