RACING PREVIEW: OCTOBER 12 TO 15

RENO, NV (Oct. 11) — Mother Nature gave us a preview of what is coming but for now good weather returns for a racing and car show weekend. On TV, national and regional series are still heading for their season ending events.

CAR MEETS:

Schedule for this week’s Jeep Festival in Reno.

• Things get rolling when Chrysler-Jeep of Reno has three days of Jeep Festival featuring everything from a cocktail party, Show N’ Shine and ending with trail rides.

         – The big part of the event is at Idlewild Park on Saturday. There will be all kinds of events at the park that day.

• On Thursday, starting at 7 a.m. the Iron Mafia has another meet in front of Kim’s Donuts & Tea House. Location is 1328 U.S. 395 North in Gardnerville

Saturday is when the Obsolete Iron club has its monthly Coffee & Chrome Cruise-in.

• Saturday is a very busy day for car people. That’s when Obsolete Iron has a Coffee & Chrome Cruise-in at Sprinkle Donuts, located 3304 S. McCarran Blvd., in Reno.

Saturday is when there is a car show to benefit the Fallon Theatre.
  • To the east the Fallon Theatre presents the 7th annual Show ‘N Shine to benefit the Fallon Theatre restoration. In the afternoon there will be stand-up comedy.
Silver Springs is also having a Founder’s Day Car Show on Saturday.
  • Saturday is also Silver Springs Founders Day where they are having a Classic Car Block Party.
On Sunday Reno Cars & Coffee has its second meet of the month.

• Sunday, starting at 10 a.m. is the next Reno Cara & Coffee meet. Location is by the Human Bean Coffee Stand located by the corner of Keitzke and Moana Lanes, which has good freeway access.

RACING (4-WHEEL):

Time to get prepared as on October 28 Rattlesnake Raceway will host an October Race.

• While all the Northern Nevada oval tracks are shut down until the spring there is one more special race coming up at the end of October. Since Diamond Mountain Speedway is being used for other things that group is having a Halloween Race at Rattlesnake Raceway.

Should be a fun night and kids dressed in costume get in free. There will also be trick or treats on the front straight during intermission.

This weekend E Street MX Park ends its 2023 SXS series.

• This weekend E-Steet MX Park had the final rounds of it’s 2023 SXS series. Two days of racing in these off-road machines.

Saturday not only has racing but there is also a costume contest with trick or treat to follow. Sunday gets rolling early for the second day of racing.

In addition to the SXS races E Street MX is hosting the MX-Factory tour.

In addition the 2023 Coast to Coast Tour for MX-Factory will also be at the track so but there won’t be open practice.

RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):

The Gold Diggers out in Elko are hosting the next round of the MRANN series.

This weekend the Gold Diggers M/C hosts the Rocktoberfest race for the MRANN Series.

  • As usual Saturday is when the Pee Wees, MiniBikes as well as the V Women, Bombers and Vintage bikes race. Then Sunday the big bikes race in separate class races with the experts and AA class going last.

• Fernley NinetyfiveA Speedway has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

• Riverfront MX has Thursday practice from 5 until 10 p.m. then from 9 until 2 p.m. on Sunday.

• Sierra Over The Hill Gang is racing at Prairie City MX this weekend. Saturday gates open at 6 a.m., practice at 8 a.m. with racing to follow.

On Sunday the Sierra OTHG will have a special relay race to benefit the American Cancer Society.

On Sunday gates open at 6:30 a.m. with practice starting at 8 a.m. and racing to follow. There is also a special relay race to benefit the American Cancer Society.

MMX Racing is hosting two days of AMA District 36 racing.

• MMX Racing won’t have practice this weekend as the track hosts a AMA district 36 event with two days of racing.

RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):

• Thursday, at 1:40 p.m., the Peacock network has the first VP Sportscar Challenge race from Road Atlanta. Then at 2:40 p.m. www.imsa.tv has the first Mazda MX-5 Cup race from that track.

  • At 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub. Then at 6 p.m. www.mavtv.com has the Trans Am race from Virginia International Raceway.

• Friday starts at 6:25 a.m. when Peacock airs the second VP Sports Car Challenge race from Road Atlanta. Then at 7:25 a.m. Mavtv hs the second Mazda MX-5 from that track

  • Finally at 4 p.m. the USA Network broadcasts Xfinity from Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

• Saturday starts on Peacock at 7:40 a.m. when they start broadcasting the 10-hour Motul Petit Le Mans race from Road Atlanta. Then at 3:30 p.m. Peacock takes over and broadcast the remainder of the race that ends the IMSA Weathertech Sport Car Challenge Series.

  • At 9:30 a.m. the USA Network has NASCAR Cup qualifying from Las Vegas then at 12:30 the network has the Xfinity race. At 2:30 p.m. mavtv has Mobil The Grid show.

• Sunday begins at 10 a.m. when Fox Sports 1 has the NHRA Qualifying show from Texas. Then a 11 a.m. CNBC, on a delayed basis, airs the MotoGP race from Indonesia.

  • At 11:30 NBC broadcasts the NASCAR Cup race from Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Another elimination race for those seeking the championship.

  • At noon Fox Sports 1 has the NHRA Texas Fall Nationals from Dallas. Another elimination race in the Count Down to the championships.

OTHER RACING NEWS:

If all goes well the Sandbox in Fernley should have its first race on the first week in November.

Work is still progressing on the Sandbox, the motocross track located west of the Veteran’s Cemetery in Fernley. Right now they are planning to have a three-day practice and race event on November 1st through the 3rd, weather permitting of course.

Daveys American Racing follows national and west coast racing.

Daveys American Racing is usually on Face Book and he keeps up with racing in the western United States. His focus is on oval tracks.
