RACING PREVIEW: SEPT. 21 TO 24

RENO, NV (Sept. 20) — As fall begins we’ll get a small blast of cooler air then things warm up again. Just in time for a big motorcycle rally, more car meets and regional racing for a summer farewell.

CAR MEETS:

Street Vibrations rolls into our area starting Thursday and going through Sunday. Graphic coutest – Street Vibrations.

While not cars this week is the annual Street Vibrations Fall Rally. Starts Thuresday and goes through Sunday with events in Reno, Carson City and Virginia City.

Impalas Car Club has a Show N’ Shine in Sun Valley on Saturday.

• Things get rolling Saturday when the Impalas Car Club hosts the 3rd Annual Show & Shine for Mental Health Awareness. Times are 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. and the location is 115 6th Ave Court in Sun Valley.

• That same day Cars N’ Coffee has a meet from 8 until 10 a.m. at the Human Bean Coffee stand in Carson City. Location is 3300 Highway 50.

• On Sunday Sparks Cars & Coffee, from 10 a.m. until noon has its second meet of the month. Location is by the Starbucks on Disc Drive.

Carson Jeeps & Coffee has a meet Sunday at the Human Bean Coffee stand on Highway 50.

• Also on Sunday Carson Jeeps & Coffee also has a meet. Hours are from 10 until noon at the Human Bean Coffee stand located at 3300 Lincoln Highway, Highway 50, in Carson City.

RACING (REGIONAL 4-WHEEL):

Battle Mountain Raceway ends its 2023 season with the annual 3-day Silver Cup event.

• This week Battle Mountain Raceway ends its season with three days of racing starting on Friday and going through Sunday. It’s the annual Silver Cup with added payouts.

NNKC has round 6 of its season this weekend.

• On Sunday, starting around 9 a.m. the Northern Nevada Kart Club has Race 6 of its season. Pre-registration is open online and the weather should be great.

Top Gun Drag Strip has this year’s final test and tune session on Saturday.

• Top Gun Drag Strip has one more event, the final Test N’ Tune of the year. Racers can get ready for the NHRA District 7 finals in Las Vegas.

The final test and tune session ends with a pot luck dinner for those attending.

At 5 p.m. there will be a final get together potluck dinner at the bottom of the tower. Be sure to bring a dish to share, a chair and enjoy the gathering.

RACING (RACING AND PRACTICE):

Battle Born MX is at Fernley 95A this weekend.

• BBMX is hosting round 8 of its season at Fernley 95A Speedway. Saturday is for practice, Sunday is race day and sign ups are open.

There is a special race for the youngest riders after Saturday’s practice.

After Saturday’s practice at 4 p.m. there will be another Stacyc Race. Here the youngest kids race small electric motorcycles on a very short course.

E Street hosts the next round of its SXS series on Saturday.

• On Saturday E-Street MX Park is holding round 6 of this year’s SXS Series. It will be a wild day of side-by-side racing.

Next round of the Pro Motocross Series is this Sunday.

         – On the motocross track there is practice from 9 until 2 Saturday. Then on Sunday its round 5 of the Pro Motocross series; gates open at 6:30 a.m., practice at 8 with racing to follow.

• Prairie City this week has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. only on Saturday and Sunday.

• Riverfront MX has practice from 5 until 10 p.m. Thursday. Saturday, from 9 until 2 p.m. is ride day for Sierra Old Timers then it’s open practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Sunday.

RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):

• Thursday gets going at 3 p.m. when Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR Race Hub. Then at 6 p.m. Fox Sports 2 has NHRA in 30.

         -This week the Formula 1 Circus is at Suzuka, Japan. ESPN 2 at 7:25 shows practice #1 then at     10:55 they air practice #2. Remember Japan is on the other side of the International Date Line.

• On Friday at 7:25 a.m. ESPNU has Formula 1 practice #3 then at 11:55 ESPN 2 has Formula 1 qualifying.

• Saturday begins at 6:30 a.m. when Fox Sports 1 has NHRA Qualifying Show #1 from Charlotte.

  • The USA network gets going at 9:30 a.m. when they show NASCAR Cup qualifying from Texas Motor Speedway. Then at 12:30 the network airs the Xfinity race from there.
Last round of the Super Motocross Challenge is at the Los Angeles Coliseum.
  • Peacock at 1:30 p.m. has Race Day Live then at 7 p.m. the USA network has the Super Motocross Championship Final from Los Angeles. The venue is the Los Angeles Coliseum, one of the first used when the Supercross series started.

  • At 9:55 p.m. ESPN 2 broadcast the Grand Prix of Japan as the Formula 1 drivers race on the Suzuka circuit.
The NHRA Betway Nationals are at 4-wide track in Charlotte, North Carolina.

• Sunday starts at 8 a.m. on Fox Sports 1 with the NHRA Qualifying Show #2. Then at 11 a.m. the network airs the Betway Carolina Nationals from Charlotte.

  • At 11:30, on a delayed basis, NBC will have the Moto GP race from India.

  • Then at 12:30 p.m. the USA network airs the NASCAR Cup race from Fort Worth at the Texas Motor Speedway. With the Play Offs continuing and eliminations going on every position is critical for drivers hoping to make the championship round.

That’s it for this week. Mother Nature is reminding us that Thursday is the first day of Fall. Then we warm up for the weekend.

Looks like the Sandbox maybe restored and could be an opportunity for a couple of folks.

If you are an operator of equipment and a motocross fan there could be an opportunity for you. It appears the motocross track west of the veteran’s cemetery in Fernley has been bought and is going to be restored.

Daveys American Racing is usually on Face Book at 6 p.m. Wednesday evenings. One can see the show on Face Book and get into the chat was well.

Daveys American Racing keeps track of oval track races not in our region and is on Face Book.

Davey covers national series as well as racing in the western United States. His focus is on oval tracks.
